I've mentioned it before but I spend quite a bit of time (almost exclusively on my own) out on the roads and trails around Alberhoughton, Jobeg south, Meyerton etc. and I certainly don't feel like 'they' are out to get me on every ride. I do try to be as safe as possible and am pretty chilled so don't really get aggravated easily, that probably helps ... I remember a few years ago one of our own, some may remember R2D2, had a run in with some taxis on the rand water board road that were part of a funeral procession. It went pretty badly for him! Again you get those type of people amongst just about any demographic you can think of, drivers, cyclists, bakers, accountants and even people of the cloth (had a small run in with one once 😂) amongst many others. They are also generally like that in all walks of their lives not just towards cyclists as an example ... the same ones you see shouting at bank tellers, supermarket cashiers and anyone else that upsets them. Live and let live, that's my motto 😎

My initial thoughts were why are people so desperate to do it quicker or do way more than 'necessary' but since its been around for a while I'm pretty impressed by what innovative challenges people have set for themselves ... It's become way more than just the festive '500' for many and that's cool and takes nothing away from those for whom just managing the 500 is tough because of other responsibilities or their fitness level

Printed this for my daughter-in-law's Forerunner 55 she got for Christmas One picture is with and the other without flash, the only reason the colours look so different 🙄

I tested positive and had only a very sore throat with the accompanying rough voice ... on advice from my doctor I isolated and rested for 10 days (I actually felt fine within 3 or 4 days). After that I did easy short rides for 3 days and then back to normal riding including completing the Festive 500 shortly thereafter. As I mentioned my GP who knows me very well followed up and advised me during that time.

Brilliant day here at Bloekompoort... made the best of it. You never know what weather tomorrow may bring!

Since it's such a cracker day out decided what the heck might as well make the best of it! Chuffed that I managed to do them all single speed, only have this bike here with me so will probably put in an easy ride tomorrow and Friday weather permitting

90 to go ... apparently it'll be another cracker day here near the Vaal dam so should get a fair number of those in when I go look at what it looks like at the wall. 7 sluices open I hear from the water experts here at the camp site

Emergency trip home and back from Bloekompoort caravan park to fetch my wife's meds she forgot ... That sign made me laugh 'besopenes' 😃

BUT then there was a break in the rain, enough to get in a ride and only get a lil wet near the end! IDT crisis averted 😜

This Gauteng weather is playing havoc with my SS only attempt ... 223 done in 3 days, one long on road Christmas eve, a longish off road Christmas day then my son and I went for our traditional boxing day short ride which I also did on my MTB. Keeping an eye on the weather today but will do an 'indoor' (spits) ride this morning just in case it doesn't get any better just to get the K's in

So definitely having a go on SS only ... Lets see how it goes Had to laugh, on a WA group I'm on there has been some robust discussion about this challenge and one of the comments was 'it's the Festive 500, not the Festive-Far-Further-Farfurtherest'
