  1. JB - I'm not gonna tell her that, something about a woman scorned and stuff comes to mind .........
  2. I told my wife but I just got this blank look ..............
  3. As SwissVan and the Crazy German would know or have heard the saying goes :- 'essen Sie H?lfte' loosely translated eat half!!! or something like that anyway
  4. Hey Gman don't apologise flip that's what us MTB'rs like to see. A bike looking like it has in fact spent some time in it's 'natural' habitat! More than most 'mountain' bikes I suspect! Hope you have many happy safe DIRTY miles on it! Now to the serious question was that an engagement present from 'me to me' or from your fiance?
  5. Sorry to hear that mate! Also had a 'small' rear wheel issue yesterday, found 1 loose spoke. Turns out the nipple is damaged. But cause it's tubeless it's a mission, tyre off, rim tape off and then oh the lbs doesn't have that 'sticky tape stuff' in stock! OK OK calm down, make a small 'incision' in the tape and replace nipple/spoke, cover with small piece of insulation tape just in case. But my lbs (Just Cycles BTW ) guy hangs in there till 6:30 (they close at 5:30!) and even services the freewheel and hub in the process but phones and says hey I can't get the tubeless up. OK only cause I wanted it back last night I say bring it I'll do it myself!!! When he drops it he says and just generally you will need to rebuild that wheel cause other spokes are not looking good at the nipples either, flip could be me and you with sleepless nights Thug! Pleasant thought just before Sabie as you say. Getting the tubleless back up wasn't that tough so ja ready to go!
  6. It occurs to me that the lighter part of the egg nomenclature was not instigated by myself but someone who at the time claimed to be a friend of yours but I guess you find it offensive and therefore I will refrain from using said term
  7. Know someone who rode with an MTB cassette at R4V!!!! Guess it gives the same effect? Not sure how well the RD coped but ja whateva it takes I guess!
  8. Hey gangster those are road ........................ oh yes you have moved on ....
  9. Amoryn, only cool if your Epic is in Black and red (i.e. the carbon one!)
  10. Now that red would look really cool on my .............
  11. Makes me think of the time I 'baked' some brake pads that had become 'contaminated' in the oven . It worked but since then only stuff that has passed 'she who must be obeyed' may be placed in said oven !!!!!!! The smell lingered for days......... at least the smoke not too long
  12. GreatEGGwhite - my better half may have problems me having bits of my fork in the oven at 80 degrees! Guess the extender (which works fine BTW!) will stay! I will however investigate the lower stack height headset as this may still be an option.
  13. When I was inquiring (some time ago) for my Fox F100X they said upper assembly only as well! So it ended up on my S-Works hardtail cause it fitted! But we'll see what the wise old MTB sage (DR) has to say. Just worried cause it may entail welding wood or something in his case!
  14. Attie - The Recon was 1890g's and the Fox 1550g's so 350g's saved less the say 100g's of the final extender so I have reduced by 250 I guess in the end! Cost I am unable to comment as I did not pay the normal proce for the fork. Due to my very close direct connection (my daughter's BF owns a bikeshop!) I was able to get it for next to nothing due to a trade in deal that happened!
  15. Thanks Parra, will chat to the MTB sage after we get back! Might be the better option. Right now just gotta get through SabieX with it like it is, 3 sleeps to go!
  16. Yip Kevin, we're in Brackendowns! We normally ride there Tuesday (we are going tonight, you keen?) and Thursday evenings at about 5:45. We ride just one lap cause we ride from home and back as well (gives us an hours ride or so). We also ride there plus out towards either the blockhouse or the cellphone tower at least 1 morning on a weekend. We're off to SabieX and then holidays so will more than likely only resume our normal riding around the beginning of Jan!
  17. Here's a pic of the fing! Had this discussion some time ago on the hub and didn't do it on another fork but now that I've seen it and how it works it is no problem to extend any steerer tube albeit at the expense of some additional weight of course. By the time we were finished with it it was less than a 1/3 of this length!
  18. Thanks casspir, paulvs and KevinFok (Thug?). Tried to fit it, ok so not so simple cause the steerer tube was just that 10mm too short !!!! Got a BBB steerer tube extender but it's a humongous thing and weighs some 250grams. All the weight saving from the Recon to the Fox would be undone and we can't have that now can we! But but but I want it on so me and LBB check out the extender with care, keeping in mind I only needed 10mm so we go next door to the local do anything kit car builder do anything welder cutter oke! Together we manage to reduce it to a mere 80 or so grams and it still worked. Saturday and Sunday morning I take it out to our local provincial XC course at the Rietvlei zoo farm and it works a treat, buttery smooth it is. Definitely better 'small' bump' compliance than the Recon and it feels like it tracks better in corners. I used the standard settings for my weight out of the manual and guess that if necessary I will do some fine tuning at SabieX. There'll be lots of time with 4 days of riding some 260k's with nearly 6000 meters of climbing !!!!! And and and .......... the platinum against that black/red combination also looks the dogs .............. !!!!!!!!!
