  1. Not to derail that Parlee thread, saw this paint scheme on there and had an idea to do that to my Jamis MonsterCross ... anyway as you guys know me by now idea to reality generally doesn't take long [emoji41] Stripped this morning and delivered to my painter Big Thys ... hopefully get it back towards the end of next week. Vinyl guy working on the 'art work's as well
  2. Mmmm my steel Jamis could do with a refreshed paint job [emoji41]
  3. Started out pleasant but got a little wet here in the deep south this morning but as the cool kids say 'it's in the bank' anyway
  4. I was pretty surprised that they took us up to the masts and then some today [emoji54] but hey you do what you gotta do [emoji41] The riding in the Eye was sublime as always ... won some ice cream money so a good day all round!
  5. "Life is a gamble. You can get hurt, but people die in plane crashes, lose their arms and legs in car accidents; people die every day. Same with fighters: some die, some get hurt, some go on. You just don't let yourself believe it will happen to you" Muhammad Ali
  6. I'll have a chat to him, he recently sold his house and is living at his in laws temporarily ... not sure if it's all set up there
  7. Took my grandson Noah to go meet and play with my mate Thys' dogs Lady and Pote (mother and daughter) This kid absolutely loves animals, had a Russian dwarf hamster called Bella that sadly died a few weeks ago. Long story but his Dad and new partner won't have pets, he'd love to get a dog!
  8. Decided to go with a more permanent setup ... as per the woodwork thread I used some left over pallet wood. Not sure how well it will work or how practical it is but I'll find out I guess. Gotta be better than the music stand option I used with just my phone before
  9. Winter is coming such as it is on the Highveld, decided to set up a more permanent 'pain cave' so put together this indoor trainer computer stand from the pallet wood I had left over. Feels sturdy enough! Just wait for the wood filler to dry (lots of holes and other blemishes in that wood), last bit of sanding then varnish and try it out ....
  10. I don't even strip them down for clipping in issues, I just spray some 'spookpis' on the shafts and spring spots where it swivels if that makes sense
  11. Most pedals can be serviced with a bit of effort although some need a special tool ....
  12. Stupid question maybe but have you tried lubing the mechanism?
  13. Good to keep in mind that in these times even the strongest, tallest trees can fall! There's an oldish Landcruiser or something like that under all of that...
  14. Frek's first ride at Thaba, whether you've had a bad night or foresee a tough day ahead you cannot ride through there without a smile on your face! I think I might have found where everyone's Tupperware lids go [emoji12]
  15. Amina at Kyalami is cool, always extremely helpful. I have no problem going there!
  16. A long ass day out but loved every minute! Not sure what goes through other riders minds when you're out for long but today started off thinking about some stuff, progressed to fighting with myself and then ignored myself for the last part ...
  17. Just an observation, of my family (my brother, both his daughters and their families) and a few mates that have gone to NZ, most of which were pretty keen cyclists here in SA, only 1 has actively kept up his cycling at least to what he did here. Those of you that have moved, have you found something similar? Have any theories why that might be .....
  18. Riding round the little 'villages' in the south Walkerville, Daleside, Henley ... happen to pass 2 country schools and then 2 schools here in our suburb, great to hear kids laughing and playing, teachers teaching (some shouting as well) for a change. Some semblance of normality for them thankfully! As an aside Big Bertha doesn't need to be told by road side signs, it's in her DNA!
  19. I stripped all the parts off myself, a spray painter mate did it for me. Charged me R1400
  20. Not really a MonsterCross anymore I guess, I'll use it on the road only.... Still 'Big Bertha' but a lot prettier?
  21. Some days something like that can ruin an oke's ride and have you calling for the 'team car but NOT today, 2 plugs and some air and turned out a cracker ride!
