  1. No - you may use my given name.... :) It's completely reasonable answer you have and I thank you for not trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes about the realities of carbon repair. As a schoolkid I used to glass and repair surfboards for a couple of well known shapers - the blend of art, science and skill appealed to me then, and still does - in many ways. The advent of carbon composites has significantly complicated things in the intervening years - especially repair - luckily nobody normally dies from a failed surfboard repair.
  2. Getting a good grinder is like having pedals.... or not...
  3. Just ask for a copy of the math used to prove the layup planned and repair is going to be structurally sound.... if you get it and it's correct then I would assume the repairer knows what he is doing. Heuristics don't always provide correct answers...
  4. I suspect you are wrong there Graeme.... big time - almost EVERY diagnosis these days is questioned extensively by every googler around... fact of professional life. I agree it's most annoying that my 14 year education and judgement is questioned a lot and often in arrears - at vast cost in professional lost time and additional insurance costs - that said - if it saves 1 life - is it not worth the additional effort? As an aside - and just because I am curious - do you hold professional indemnity and liability insurance against a claim relating to a failure of a repair with concomitant injuries and lifetime incapacity? or do you expect or assume the insurer or customer takes that risk? I certainly do - my family certainly cannot afford a successful claim given the size of the judgements these days
  5. No visitors? more than 1 visitor and you will feel the constraints of the small sbdu machine - far better to save a while and buy a heat exchanger based machine - slightly bigger but much better capacity - especially with milk based drinks - and usually better steaming too - and a good grinder
  6. Silvia's and the like do not make good office coffee machines - they just cannot produce the volumes for more than 2 people at a time - and it's even worse when people want milk drinks - incredibly slow. A decent bean to cup machine is a much better and more practical office machine - especially if you get to pair it with a good small espresso machine and grinder at some point. My office has a 2 group commercial machine - and even that causes a backlog for meetings - although some of that relates to the operators not being super efficient.
  7. It would be good if Cortac would patrol the area with a drone... from their facebook page CORTAC Aviation Tactical Teams deploy surveillance drones (UAVs) equipped with HD and thermal cameras. Drone surveillance provides a cost effective solution for detecting unauthorised activity in difficult terrain and wide-open areas. For more information on CORTAC Aviation, please email info@cortac.co.za. (CAA/G1440D)
  8. Nothing constructive as far as I could gather, given I was still busy at the time - Security companies have issues with liability and the main suggestion is to ride in big groups - 6 or more
  9. There is an open meeting between the Community Policing Forums, private security companies and cyclists using the Spruit to discuss the latest spate of attacks in the Spruit. . The meeting takes place MONDAY night at Rosebank union Church at 6 pm. Corner Sandton Drive and William Nicol. Please try to attend if you use the Spruit. This is TONIGHT so please make an effort to attend if you are a spruit user.

  11. Little known in Gauteng, but does good work is Ashley Shamrock - Shamrock paint works Call Sprocket and Jack and ask for Ashley.
  12. Go and see Chris Delpierre at the Sports science institute - 021 659-5685 - he is a podiatrist and specializes in feet - if needs be he will refer you out to someone else if it is beyond his scope of practice. I have no idea if Podiatry is covered on your plan unfortunately.
  13. VAT on 110% of the customs value - so a tad more - and some admin fees as well
  14. That is genuinely horrible.... I am curious how they will remediate that without a complete replacement
  15. There are plenty - and a few threads as well. I have plenty of PM's on the subject from people, but unfortunately they will have to self disclose because I can't remember who has made it public and who has not. You will feel a LOT better post ablation - just be aware that sometimes you need one or more additional ablations to correct it - just a small risk but as long as you know about it.
  16. That is probably because the frame is not properly heat treated post weld - there aren't many places that can do this, and there are no guarantees on paintwork afterwards. The other issue is putting too much heat into the weld - this is a common problem for less than really competent tig welders (me included) That said - hubber AMPANDY is pretty good at tig work - worth pinging him to see where in the world he is working.
  17. Carbon softens the vibrations you feel compared to most alloy bars - the downside is cost for a quality product like Enve or similar - they are pretty strong but don't like nicks and scratches much - not that I have ever broken a set yet. Enve on my xc bike Csix on my enduro bike Ritchey on my roadbike No name brand on my singlespeed. and Aluminium on the DH rig...
  18. I am a firm believer in: 1 - People on the property always - and if they are not: 2 - Defending the perimeter - whats the point of only knowing when they are inside the house? High walls, electric fence, outside passives/beams - all hooked to response company 3 - Security gates that defend perimeter doors 4 - Camera's 5 - A solid rumour that there are pitbulls on the property - I never open an outside gate to a tradesman without letting them wait while I lock up the pitties... always with apologies..... And finally - consistent use of the alarm and regular testing of it - Alarm company radios have been less than reliable recently for me.
  19. This is what cell phone cameras are for... that and reading restaurant menus in low light...
  20. It will fit - but you do have to know how to pack it properly - check on youtube for clues.
  21. fixed it for you.....
  22. Sidi Mega fit - works for my wide feet.
  23. Mousse lube is marvelously spreadable stuff..... gets f...ing EVERYWHERE... I built a stand with a spindle that clamps into a Triton workstand - so no pressure on the brake disk. but even taping the disc up is needed because they are super sharp - knuckle skin removers of note
  24. Having spent last night changing 3 rear tires - I agree - 400mm levers are the ones to have...... and lots of them
