  1. Done the 120km (113km actual distance) a couple of times. The 100km looks a bit easier with the climbs after the old 1st water point (26km mark) not being there anymore. From what I can gather is that the old route gets diverted at around the 17km mark and then joins again at the 40km mark.

It is a great day out though and a very well organised event. We are camping there on Friday night for the first time. Any other Bike Hubbers going?

  2. Skipped the Monster last year, but think the challenge is back on this year. After 3 days of Sani2C (used as a training block for the Magalies Monster) the weekend before I always feel that the Monster is a proper mountain bike race. Possibly due to tired legs, but it is a nice challenge and a well organised race.....well that was the case for the previous 2 years in any case.

  3. Sorry if this has been posted but what App do you use with the Apple Watch to get Vitality Points? Strava doesn't seem to record heart rate? So if one is training on a treadmill or Spinning bike ie: not moving how do you get your "vigorous device workout" points - Thanks

I rode with my Apple Watch for the first time yesterday and it did show heart rate. I din't change any settings it just worked. Oh I did have to activate "Heart Rate" on the Health App - don't know if this has anything to do with it. Silly question, but does your watch pick up your heart rate?

  4. Lovely picture! Not often that I'm jealous of you Vaalies!

Thanks. Was one of those moments that I just had to stop to take a photo as it was so awesome. I will try and remember to post some photos when I'm down in CT in March. You guys do have some amazing views of the mountain from Contermanskloof and Meerendal.

  5. Well done to Matt Beers who actually went and finished - respect. I saw on the results he is only 21!! If that's the case there is a bright future for him. Agree that more guys should have been sent. Robin at least said that she was not 100% and wouldn't be able to give worlds a good go...Max well didn't know he didn't go/opted not to go. Must say was surprised by his selection, but that's my opinion. Perhaps there should be local races that replicate the next world distance and accent to get CSA to select the best suitable candidates to send. Anybody know of a local race that was equivalent to the world's distance and accent?

  6. So get told by a very agro sales person at Diskem that they are discontinuing their stocking of Cadence due to bad/ non existent service from the guys at Cadence. Rather a shame seeing that it took so long to get them to stock it....

Was told the same thing at my local Dischem. From their Facebook page: Cadence Nutrition is proud to announce that it has entered into an exclusive distribution arrangement with Omnico (Pty) Ltd, South Africa’s leading importer and distributor of cycle and lifestyle brands and that accordingly with effect from 1 September 2014 our products will be available exclusively through quality bicycle retailers throughout South Africa.

Asked for comment, Dr Jeroen Swart, the CEO of Cadence Nutrition added,

“The aim of Cadence Nutrition has always been to supply athletes with the best possible nutritional solution for all types of endurance sport, but in particular cycling, as cycling is what we here at Cadence Nutrition are all passionate about. Accordingly, when the opportunity arose to work together with Omnico, which in our view is the industry leader in South Africa when it comes to the distribution of cycling related brands, we knew this would allow us to move the Cadence Nutrition brand to the next level. Teaming up with Omnico, which imports and distributes iconic brands such as Cannondale, Bell, Fox or GoPro, does not only provide us access to Omnico’s distribution network of more than 150 of South Africa’s leading quality bicycle retailers, but also allows us to focus on our core competency: the development of world leading nutritional solutions for endurance athletes according to strict scientific principles.

In line with our focus on the cycling market, we have further decided to discontinue selling our products to mass market retailers and instead focus exclusively on the distribution of our products through the backbone of our sport, the quality bicycle retailer.”

Will possibly see serious price differences compared to the great prices at Dischem. Great products though.
