  1. Could be good if they're prepared to negotiate supply of good 650b tires...
  2. Dude, I'm pretty sure he'll be doing Cowies Hill on the way there, which is also a bit of a wench!
  3. How is that a ZA company mindset? They want to get the tooling right, which takes a HELLUVA long time. Especially when you consider that the moulds etc cost an arm and a leg to produce, and if you're mass producing you need quite a few of them. As for the prototype, it's exactly that - a prototype, ie: Not geared for full-on production, but rather a one-off on which they base their final product. As for seeing the frame a year ago, we all did. A delay in production has nothing to do with being a South African company.
  4. Brakes? Why on earth would you want to BRAKE on that hill? Awesome road to practice a bit of rear wheel drift!
  5. Don't bring your personal life with you, Cap... don't wanna know about necks, breathing & exertion! seriously though - it's a lekker time. Go whenever you want... always open, except at night...
  6. Bit late there, mate! You must just have nubs showing by now!
  7. That's all that matters, pronutro. That's all that matters. As long as you have fun on the bike, it's the right one for you.
  8. I voted using the replacement value of my XC & DH bikes together... My DH bike cost all of R 7k, but would cost more than 40k to replace with a new, current model at the same spec. My XC bike cost R 6k, but I have spent R 5k upgrading fork, gruppo and tires. So - amount paid is far less than actual value... And I ride because I have fun whilst doping it, not for the lowest time.
  9. Hahah!! 2 down, how many to go... I've got some 780mm Boo's on my GT. Need to get the same for the XC bike, I reckon. And no, I don't hit the trees.
  10. I would imagine that the frames cost would be included in their budget for R&D. Money lost, yes, but for a good reason as it highlights potential faults in the frame's make up that need to be rectified, and therefore offset against future losses...
  11. Gets sent back to Giant HQ for analysis to determine the reason for failure, so that it can be avoided in the future. Sometimes, the development of the frames doesn't fully overcome the weaknesses though...
  12. Here... My link Here My link And here... My link
  13. 710cm! damn, those are wide! Go Go Gadget Bar Grippers! Do you attach chainsaws to the ends so you don't have to worry about encroaching trees?
  14. Absolutely agree here... I'm far more comfortable when I've got my elbow & knee guards on. I know that if I fall, I'm cool. And trust me - I do fall! On the Urban Assault though, I found myself going wide on the corners and not railing them properly. This was purely down to me not looking through the corner, rather looking directly in front of me so I naturally washed out... Apparently it was quite funny to watch. The Mountain Biking Skills book by Lopes & McCormack is fantastic. I cannot recommend it enough!
