  1. Please share more info RE this! Sounds amazing

The bubble is indeed about to burst for the stage races that are busy pricing themselves out of the market. However I still believe the "value the money" events will be supported going forward.

Most of my cycling friendship circle have settled on organizing our own long weekends away near popular mtb trails and it works out at a fraction of the cost of these multi stage events. The bonus is we get to stay in fairly luxury accommodation and dine like Kings every day.

e.g. a recent trip to the Groot Vadersbos reserve cost us R3000 each for 4 days (all in), including the transport and it offered some of the best trails and gravel roads I've ridden in ages.

  2. Thanks Rouxenator

Yes, they're finishing the bridge as we speak. I saw it on their FB page

Yes I have done it a few times, and I also have a year permit for Bottelary. It's nothing too serious seeing as you already did a 50km.

Hopefully they have that lovely floating bridge at the end.

  3. Thanks Rouxenator. I take it you've done the 60? Anything specific we need to worry about?

How accurate is the total ascent?

I've done a 50km race at Bottelary and it was great (long ago though)

Please do not trust the long route map they have. It has been wrong since the very start and every year I supply them with the correct one only to be ignored.

Here is the correct long route and profile for it.

  4. Yes, I love my Lyne adapter too! Large frame swallows 1.5 - 1.75L of fluids with ease.

I rode with a dropper for a couple of months before removing it. I like the sleek look more.

I own one, and it is a really good bike (IMO). If the price is right, you're getting a full carbon bike, carbon hoops and a bulletproof GX12-speed groupset.

The Maestro susp has been discussed at length- nothing fancy, it just works.

I find the grey and black rather striking to look at too.

I agree fully with this comment.

Awesome bike and I fitted the Lyne double bottle holder as I didn't want a bottle holder clamp on the carbon seatpost. This has worked well for the past 3 months.

    Enjoy the bike!

    Keep us posted!

  6. Hi Baracuda- I've spent about 3-4 hours on a top-end 2019 Diverge. The tech in the frame and Futureshock is amazing.

I've ridden a short distance on a Revolt- just looks better. For your budget a 2019 Adv O (in black) might be a great ride. Carbon hoops as standard.

As a side note- i've gone the other way and converted a carbon HT 29er to a sort of gravel bike.

    Enjoy the hunt!

  7. That is some transformation! Congrats

    My contribution to this thread:

This Mongoose Meteore was bought from a mates dad. It was the proverbial town-bicycle at a facility in Mozambique. I think someone at some stage rode it into the sea because as I was stripping it there was sand pouring out from inside the tubes. Nothing on the bike was working, it was old, beat up and was quite the ugly duckling so I named it Frank Gallagher (the pic is after a lot of cleaning up was done).

The paint on the frame was peeling off and a respray would be too costly and simply too good for Frank so I decided to try powder coating. I found a place who stripped the frame and did the coating for a very reasonable price and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

The build was made up of carried over parts from upgrades and purchases from Hubbers (crank & front tyre), CWC (cassette), Evobikes (grips, chain), CRC (seat post clamp, front wheel, XTR compatible NW ring), FARR (bar and 155 saddle) and Carbon Bicycle Repairs (2nd hand fork and they did the build).

Here is the before and after.
