  2. Breaking my derailleur was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. My bike hasn't had one since
  3. Because South Africa is XCM befok and that is largely boring for me. I much prefer deciding on and finding my own routes, riding up tricky single track and learning to ride/ get faster/ do bigger jumps on down trails, with a few friends. Ever tried turning around to redo a fun section at a race? This is exactly my idea of a good time on the mountain. But I still call it trail riding, maybe I need to ditch the hardtail and ride with a cooler crowd of enduro kids

  5. I don't believe that this is correct. Last time I checked there was no duty on cycling parts. http://www.thehubsa....-cycling-goods/ But go with EVO. Local is lekker (when the price is right)
  6. Around 14-16% (except for clothing and full bikes). Plus add shipping. I believe between R150-R350 depending on the option.
  7. Officially Coolheat http://www.coolheat.co.za But looks who's having a special on XTR stuff, Chain Reaction Cycles. Oh and their XT brakes are here.
  8. Thanks to the trail builders for this bit of maintenance. I love your work Is it possible/ practical to have two lines down the Mamba rock gardens? Best of both worlds, hey? It would be cool to have a gnarly section like what had developed (I like scaring myself) but also a fast and safe line. I'll accept "Then come to a build day" as an answer
  9. I am as happy as punch to ride with my girlfriend. This is how I approach it (and I guess it applies better to places with actual mountains, I neglected to check where the OP is located): Step 1: Ride a single speed. Step 2: Attack all climbs hard. Step 3: Ride back down to weaker partner and grind up slowly with them. I've never been stronger, even when riding with my manly man friends. And weaker riders don't stay weak for long. Watching a rider, especially someone close to you, improve each ride is really fun.
  10. It's pretty clear that all is not well at SANParks: SANParks boss stands to get millions from MalaMala deal Sorry, back to the burns.
  11. Why are they not burning the snake trails? Surely that area is in dire need of it.
  12. Thread resurrect for the 2014. Other than Trail and Tar Wednesday night rides, are there any groups riding Tokai on other days?
  13. My riding buddy only rides rigid bikes and I struggle to keep up with him on most descents. But maybe I'm just slow
  14. Contact Guy, he may have some spacers: http://www.guysbicycleshop.co.za/contact-us/
  15. If you want a good whinge, check out the Arabella race. R475 for the race entry
  16. Might be last year's routes but http://www.roag.co.z...travel-mtb.aspx http://www.roag.co.za/media/230250/gravel%20travel%202014%2065km.jpg http://www.roag.co.za/media/230245/gravel%20travel%202014%2035km.jpg http://www.roag.co.za/media/230240/gravel%20travel%202014%2015km.jpg

    Epic 2015 entry

They won't even give you free accommodation and food to work for them, while they make some decent money. Am I maybe missing the point here?

    Epic 2015 entry

You have to pay to volunteer to hand out water?
  19. I'd also be interested to find out if there is some aggressive single track in the area. You may enjoy some of the steeper trails in the Hemel en Aarde valley, although these aren't really that technical. Maybe chat to the guys at Euodia Cycles.
  20. Yes, I'd enjoy doing this kind of event and would appreciate the luxury. That being said, I don't believe that luxury should imply lack of value. That is why I asked if the high entry fee includes anything that might justify the price. I asked what was included because I am genuinely interested in the event. But I see no reason to enrich some else's pockets for no good reason. I'm probably just going to ride Hemel en Aarde twice that weekend (or even one of the Grabouw/ Elgin trails on my way past). Luckily, there are these options or Arabella it may have been. Those that are doing the event, enjoy it! And let me know if it was good, maybe next year I'll stop being so tight
  21. Ridiculous pricing. What's the pull factor? Does this include accommodation?
  22. You're missing out on a lot of fun if you're constantly worrying about your presh bike. Well, I would anyway. A few little hops and jumps shouldn't break or wear a bike unreasonably and is a skill that can potentially save you and your bike from a nasty crash.
  23. Apparently (never been there, just reading reports) it is a stretch of long downhill highway that ends at these traffic lights and people misjudge the braking needed.
