    • It is illegal
    • It can lead to others being harmed or being killed should they be involved in an accident with this rider or they could be be harmed or killed by taking evasive action
    • PR work done to improve the rep of cyclist gets thrown out the window

Hairy I change my stance on this. Someone I know swung out for some cyclists on the road of fairview early in the morning hours (some time ago) also not being visible and he crashed his car when he had to swing out again for oncoming traffic. He broke 7 ribs and was in ICU.

If you ride without a light, abreast and become a hazard and put other road user's life in danger then you are a massive tool and deserve to be knocked into a vegetable state.

You are selfish and inconsiderate and then these are the guys who moan about people not looking out for us. Get your head out your arse.

  1.

If you really want to help fellow hubbers, don't put a price next to the goods you want to sell. Rather say - "I want to help you and you may pay me what you feel you can afford for this piece of equipment"

If you are not willing to do that you sound like somebody p!ssed-off for loosing out on a deal.... nothing more.

He mentioned this before. He didn't sell something. He was interested in buying, someone snatched it and is now back for sale for more.

  2. I didn't sell anything I was looking at buying something...wheelerdealer I was not referring to you btw...I was just saying in general.

    Ja I know  .

It irritates me as well if I see a good deal, want to buy it and then see a certain hubber has already placed dibs, and I know for a fact he is going to use it to build up a bike and then sell for a profit.

Solution. Take away the following of the classifieds. No one will sit 24/7 waiting for a steal to sell at a profit.

Edit: so your point is, you miss out on good deals cause of people wanting to buy them and sell at a profit? Hahaha. Maybe follow some of the classifieds sections you are wanting an item for.

  3. Wheelerdealer, I dont mind if you buy it, but dont sell it a few hours/days later at the same forum then...sell it somewhere else. I just state my opinion that not everyone can sit online 24/7 staring at the for-sale section to make a quick buck...the seller also will get a buyer soon if the price is good.

Exactly my point. Some people have the time, extra cash to "invest". You don't have the extra time, and the trouble of doing such a deal is too much for the reward. For some people it can make a difference.

  4. Hub name miskien? Wheel and deal

Whether one buys it here and sell it here or sell it somewhere else is exactly the same thing. Only difference is now you see that the guy is selling it.

I know it has a emotional attachment but he can do what the hell he wants with whatever you sold him. You sold it...

It can be unethical but this is split with a thin line. I don't do it anymore but I know of people who do it, also buying parts and building up a bike then selling it. Same principle. You feel done in cause you feel you could have gotten more for it.

  5. Did that, then the guy made it very clear he didn't like it. So I stopped. Only buy and sell for friends if I see good deals.

Personally don't see a problem with it. Some people are in need of cash or don't have the time to wait for a buyer to get the price they wanted. So some people buy a bargain and others make a living. Live and let live.

  6. I'm just over 10kgs...

    Raw medium frame.

    KCNC post and clamp.

Ritchey WCS stem (required for the big negative degree as per setup).

Truvativ World Cup Alu 700mm bar. Lock on Peaty grips.

    XT RD.

    XT Crank (single).

    XT 11-36 cassette.

    Manitou Minute 100mm fork.

Roval carbon rims laced to Circus Monkey Hubs with some light-ass, really thin spokes. Currently running Stans skewers.

    Shimano M540 pedals.

SLX M675 brakes and iSpec shifter.

    Alligator rotors (160mm and 180mm).

San Marco Aspide seat with Ti rails.

Next mods are a bar and the skewers. Have these in the cupboard, just to fit.

    Yours?

If I go 1x10 then I should be just under 10. At 10.35kg now. Some new brakes, a rotor to swap out that piece of lead they call shimano ice tech on the front and a maybe a different saddle and i'm there. But will probably go 1x10 before I drop cash on new brakes.

Good luck mate. Almost there. Not that from now to 10kg's will make a difference to speed but at least then we can sleep at night :whistling: .

Anyone keen to swap/trade a shimano XTR 2x10 crank for a shimano XT crank drop me a pm...

  7. Just somethings that I heard and thought about. Comments and feedback will be appreciated.

Lets say the normal travel on a 29er shock is 80mm or 100mm. If you sit neutrally on the bike, the shock should compress with about 10-20mm depending on how hard the shock is inflated leaving you with 60 or 90mm of travel for the trail.

On a rigid niner fork, lets say you inflate 2.2 or 2.4 tubeless tyres to 1.8 bar, the tyre should absorb about 15mm of bumps, the carbon fork another 15mm and the 700mm carbon handlebars also about 10-20mm, if you put soft, thick grips on another 5mm, thus you are actually getting 55mm of travel on a rigid fork if configured correctly with the right components where as on a front shock, as described above, the difference is only about 15mm more travel.

In theory and in practice, is this correct?

No, cause even if you do get those shock absorbing numbers they will be there when you have front suspension as well.

  8. Had a Zuma got a spez S3 for birthday and it's far superior to the zuma. It's lighter, fits better and feels better.

Bought a second hand propero :P. Thanks for all the input. Only thing I am not looking forward to is having a helmet as common as a toyota fortuner. Got it for a steal though  .

  9. Ja, will try om a few, thanks, any stay away expensive helmets?

Bell in my opinion is overpriced, padding is minimal and overall their lids don't scream out comfort or build quality, was very happy with my rudy project. Those things are extremely comfy.

  10. Need some help on picking a new helmet. Any advice, feedback and opinions would be much appreciated. Budget is anything up to R1500.

Looking for something comfortable with good ventilation for our hot weather. Also where can one go to try out a wide variety?

  11. Well done to the guy who knocked a girl off her bike today whilst overtaking her at the USN MTB race. You sir, are so tough that despite her falling so hard that she has a mild concusion, badly bruised cheek and chin and bent front rim, you still managed to be tough enough not to help her up, not ask if she is ok, nor help her get back to the parking lot. You merely hit her on the helmet and told her to toughen up and then rode off. What a gentleman! My hero! Maybe an apology would be something to consider in this instance. Anyway, new found respect for the tough MTB'ers from JHB... I aspire to be like you...

If anyone knows this guy, please can you teach him some manners, or give him a pro cycling card so he can go ride with the big boys...

    That's not a MTBer bud.
