  1. Tiger, so they are holding you liable for damage to a carbon frame? These guys have a big budget, 40K is nothing to them (against the context of the complete Cape Epic expense)...my feeling is that they are doing this because they can...Withholding payment because of some other issue is plain bullying tactics. And Brendan, you do not pay for your bike, spares, tyres, races, boarding and lodging etc, so you must have something left for the wife and kids.
  2. Consumables such as tyres, brake pads and chains. I do not go to the local CycleLab often, but was horrified at certain prices: R812 for a Hutchinson Python UST, R675 for a Conti Mountain King; these items are 50% less at CRC.
  3. Find a reputable bike mechanic and stick to him (preferably one that does not work at a bike shop), or learn how to do things yourself.
  4. From what I witnessed yesterday, the cost should not be R120 for 10. Not even for a 100. Maybe for a 1000. Thanks again for your help Johan.
  5. Good news for a change.
  6. Johan, i received those Mavic freehub bushings this weekend. I can bring the wheel to you and then can have a look at whatever you need.
  7. It has arrived, eventually.
  8. Just because 'everyone else does it' does not make it right... a very similar reaction towards breaking other rules and laws... rather learn from a mistake by apologising and correcting it, with the added bonus of salvaging a bit of dignity and self-respect.
  9. Sorry to hear about the loss. Hope it was insured.
  10. DT, Post us a pic of the cassette...
  11. Johan, I bought a "twin" pack for $27, which qualifies for free shipping. A single bushing is priced at $16 + $12 shipping, so it works out cheaper to buy 2 than 1! I needed 2 anyway as I have 2 sets of Crossland wheels. He sells up to a "6-pack". Interesting is that he also sells "oversized" bushings for when the freehub is really worn out badly. I ordered last Monday, so hopefully will receive it sometime next week. Johan, if you are interested I can bring the lot to you for fitment, then you can have a good look at it?BigGuy2009-05-09 03:39:38
  12. Maybe it is old news to some, but I have found a guy selling those nylon bushing replacements on ebay. Just search for "mavic freehub". He has replacements for most mavic wheelsets. I have been looking for something like this for a few months now, and did not want to purchase a new freehub.
  13. Some good deals on mtb ust tyres as well. I am going to stock up.
  14. Seems a lot of the high end wheelsets are going cheap: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18173
  15. Another good one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26433

  17. Thought you were always flying with (on) the bike...[mini-hijack on] had a very nice ride with ac's yesterday' date=' I can actually feel the difference going uphill...the hard part now will be to not train with them... thanks onetime! [mini-hijack off']
  18. Can't, think he's being sucked in the bunch... No, did not see him there... think he was blown out the back...
  19. Well that probably depends whether you bought a black GT Zaskar with full XTR or not. Seriously though, you can take him/her to the small claims court. It takes a while (especially when they do not play along) but you do get results eventually.
  20. It is a fact that empty gel or energy bar packets simply fall out of back pockets. I experienced this phenomena myself. It happened at every single Cape Epic waterpoint, in a radius of up to about 1km from the actual waterpoint. Obviously the 4 huge rubbish bins did not do the trick. The "please do not litter" plea every night at race briefing fell on deaf ears. I mean, some moron even took a **** in the showers and in one of the tents! Incredible.
  21. Special mention to fatcyclist who drove all the way from Table View to Somerset-West to deliver the wheels I bought from him. Nice meeting you as well.
  22. I just hope everyone's BBs, suspension pivots, wheel bearings and freewheels were lubed properly after all the high-pressure washing that was going on...
  23. CycleLab has lots...at a price though...
  24. .....cycling wholesalers and retailers were invited to gather.... As an attendee of the meeting, Cycle Lab believes that the conference was aimed ..... Who organised this whole thing? Fritz Pienaar?
