  1. @agteros, nothing earth shattering, I agree. Robert C. Atkins figured this out in the 60's. And he based his work on that of others. There was just a lot less proof then to connect all the dots.
  2. Can we try out during the week as well (afternoons)? Not here this weekend.
  3. I think it took some balls for someone of his background to write that article.
  4. Interestingly these pedals are already for sale (pre-order) in Australia for $1299 (AUD), after their recent local bike show unveiling. That's roughly R9200. Given the fact that bettered Powertaps will be brought to market before Xmas at reduced prices, I can only see that Garmin will drop the final launch price. They are probably only testing the market's reaction prior to releasing it, and I gather from what I have read elsewhere that there is much disappointment at their proposed RRP and initial choice of pedal. Another cause for concern would be the reliability of the pedal spindle bearing and cleat contact area wear and tear, nevermind crashing. Garmin has obviously thought about the maintenance aspect but has not given any indication on those running costs.
  5. This device's place in the market makes no sense to me. It will be interesting to gauge it's popularity.
  6. Agreed, price seems a bit steep. Will probably be around R15000 locally, putting it out of reach of many. Carbon fibre Look KEO? I need a cheap steel SPD.
  7. Thanks for feedback. That Lurcher might just be the prettiest thing i have seen all day.
  8. Will this ever be available in size XL? I have been putting off any purchase but will have to make a choice soon.
  9. Three Towers will get my vote every time. It is my favorite part of the country. It is also the only one I can afford.
  10. As with any goal in life you need a plan. Get a coach to assist or otherwise if you can get one of Joe Friel's training guides.
  11. That sounds good Francois. I love those hills around Gerhardsville. I always hear the guys on their MX bikes just north of the downhill from the monastry to the tar junction on the R511.
  12. All fun and games Another pic that gives you an idea of the crazy gradient Woohoo! Almost there Well if you have one of these it is too late now Spectacular vista on the Hoedspruit side Our base camp. Swadini more or less in the middle of the pic. Lots of good memories.
  13. Still full of smiles here Road starts to tilt upwards Probably the worst part. Gravel at 15-20% Tarred bit starts To give some idea of the gradient
  14. @JGdp, congrats to you and your dad for climbing those stairs. It is the steepest and longest continuous climb I have ever done, I battled to keep the front wheel on the ground most of the way. Next time (next year) I will fit the 80mm fork, turn the stem around and use the straight bar. Planning a trip to Sani pass next year as well, the altitude should make things interesting.
  15. Riet'Vlei' in Alberton. You can ride at Rietvleidam in Pretoria as well but it is rather flat and unexciting unless you mix it up with the Rhino.
  16. My guess would be a serious stuff-up with the negotiations. Maybe someone was being arrogant/offensive during a meeting. That attitude never bring results with the Taiwanese. HTC as a company is not cash-strapped at all. 20+ million euros is a drop in the pond for them.
  17. Serfas orange track pump +1. Was fairly cheap (R400) and the braided hose looks as if its going to last. Seats UST easily. Glad I spent the extra R100 on it.
  18. I think it might be a good idea to visit Maanhaarrand for a few laps.
  19. Cool. That's what life is all about. Doing what you love with the ones you love. On my to-do list.
  20. Sorry to hear, rest well and come back stronger.
  21. IMO Golden Gate itself is more suited for road bike enjoyment. The only trails I know of originate from Kiara Lodge, just past the western gate. No real maps but you pay 10 bucks and "just follow that trail". It is fairly rugged and up/down, ideal trail riding if you know what you are doing. But I have seen a lot of novice riders there, mostly pushing. Otherwise you can start at Clarens and follow some of the MTN route around the back of the mountain, not sure about land access but I do remember that is fairly tough once you hit the mountains, with lots of dangerous rocky sections. I do not have a map of that route but you should be able to find a Garmin file somewhere on the ,net.
  22. Well, to each his own I say. It is not my job to cycle, so I expect the best cyclists in the world to be pretty good at what they do. Similar to almost any occupation I can think of.
  23. Agreed. I can only offer one word of advice. Zinio.
  24. My XT crank is the 760 version, the middleburn ring stated XT 760 and newer compatability, and fits mine perfectly. It was this specific one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10037 Agreed there are lots of models with similar specs which might not work.
  25. The easiest way to lose fat is to eat it.
