  1. He/she had supposedly being checked for explosive substances before entering the international shopping area, thus should not have anything on his/her person to fill the emptied bottle with. You can take water on domestic flights, up to your max bagage weight.
  2. I assume this is back-to-back 9 hours for Sat & Sun? If I can sneak off from work early the Friday I like to add a few 20 min hill repeats for the Friday before. Obviously you have the Monday as a restday
  3. Since I am no pro and have a day job rather than having a structured programme my training is divided into categories, e.g. recovery, warm-up, endurance (3 levels), tempo, etc. These categories are based on my reference work on cycling (you can choose any training book/article as your reference, I doubt if they differ much). For each category I have target durations per period (I work on monthly and weekly). Again these are based on my reference work on cycling. Basically my training involves pushing VO2MAx via lots of endurance rides (not tempo) and lots of Threshold work, both endurance (20 min repeats) and power (2-5min repeats). I keep record of each day´s cycling in Excel (category + duration). I also take notes on the exercise type and how I felt during the training. Each week I review the past and adjust my plans for the upcoming week to ensure I stay within the target durations above. I also have a few graphs, etc. to help. I only cycling using time/duration. Note: I have trained with HR monitors before and have a pretty good idea of my PE Other relevant points: I do only Mtbíng During the week I only use a trainer I sometimes do two sessions/day during week I work from 7:00 to 18:15 week days (I adjust training depending on work stress) I travel extensively via air (at least 8 hours flying time per week), I treat these as rest days
  4. If he did it is probably shaven by now!
  5. It is Elvis - he staged his death, received assistance from the same agency involved in the NSA moon landing job.

    Crash at Tokai

Lot´s of hub time then? Good luck
  7. Soon all 29ers are bound to follow suit, one of the design limitations on 29er is chainstay clearance I do not ride a 29er but do see the sense in it and have been very jealous under certain conditions (more than I like to admit) when competing against them
  8. I purchased a fox talas 7 years ago, never once been serviced. Ridden very hard (Sani2C in mud twice, 3 seasons of snow in Europe, etc). A year ago it started having no rebound and lockout not working. Send it for a service the other day - ZAR600 Treat my lefty with utmost care (expensive and excellent - if maintained) All done by myself Sid´s lockout had a problem (1 year old, very little riding) - ZAR600 and good as new haven´t yet opened the fork, unlikely too - looks finicky Manitou R7 - regular oil changes and lube stanchions after rides (wipe clean with rag). All done by myself In general I keep the stanchions clean by wiping them with a cloth after each ride.
  9. I´m not using any measurements but time/hours cycling. (HR chest thingy batteries dead, have no sense for multiple connections to my bikes and GPS is too NASA for me) My rational: If I am not in front I am not fit/fast enought. I haven´t yet reached my goal...
  10. Your post indicates just how sheltered a large part of South Africa was and still is to crime. It also shows the majority of people living in high crime areas are victims and not perpetrators. Some 12 years ago an old man thanked me for cycling in a veld area they regularly used as pedestrains on the way home - apparently it became safer since more police where focussing on the area (to protect the rich?). As a cyclist you should take every opportunity to be friendly to locals in areas you´re using. At the least this will ensure people are more likely to assist when something does go wrong or did go wrong. Sharing experiences are also good since it promotes vigilance amongst cyclists.
  11. Claiming your entry was taken by force by some knife wielding naked Amazonian (err, getting of the track a bit...) will yield much more responses from hubbers. Plz repost
  12. I just Googled it - thanks
  13. Thanks, Details of the Serious Cycling book/manual?
  14. My understanding of tapering is to restore/built your glycogen stores while maintaining peak fitness. The above is achieved by reducing training hours/volume significantly (60-80%) seven days prior to the event and replacing it with limited very high intensity efforts of less than 3 minutes duration each. Essentially replacing time with intensity while reducing the repeats to achieve the 60-80% reduction in hours/volume. SSD (steady slow distance)is completely cut-out during this period. A rest day (no cycling), two days before the event is recommended with some high intensity spouts the day before the event (to provide your body a glimpse of what´s to come). Three questions: Is my understanding correct? If mtb event will you recommend doing the intervals off-road on technical sections uphill? What about tapering for multi-stage endurance events?
  15. Neither one of the two - a naked bike ride is soon coming to town, ignore these lycra clad races and join the real mcoy!
  16. The two naked´s in the heading - a typo from overly excited fingers or the real name of the event.
  17. Assos all the way They last super long (I have one pair from 2005 Cape Epic) They are super comfortable (expecially the new S5) I actually prefer the Uno, rather than the higher level cousins I have only fitted Cape Storm bibs (Nitros), did not like the fit, quality and padding looked impressive. I am a big fan of Cape Storm clothing most of the time.
  18. I am a mtbér, have been and have no intention to change. Before I moved abroad (non-permanent basis only for work) I went to races, even major one´s without any license issues, etc. I am aware all of this has changed, experienced it myself during the few events I entered during holidays in SA. Apart from the additional money, no inconvienence to me. Since I will be returning in a few months time, I decided to familiarize myself with the requirements. I understand some link to CSA is required for racing, any publications/internet sites/ etc. recommended as reading? Also, taking into account the Tour of SA scandal, do we have any alternatives to CSA?
  19. Agree
  20. A few Ti designs included this dent for a limited time, apparently to provide suspension clearance. This was at least 5-7 years back Two things: Ti is not a suitable material for affordable bicycles - it takes a combination of very high skill, time and expensive equipment to properly weld Ti. When executed correctly it is stunning - ever seen a deKerf frame? Litespeeds are known to fail - overrated company in my view
  21. I disagree. SA Mtb stage races will come out tops relation to organisation in particular. All involve (community, cops, land owners, motorists) get behind these events. These events involve serious negotiation and management skills - all of which CSA lacks. Relating to lala land, I lived their for awhile, also a few other places, I have yet to find the perfect place.
  22. I enjoyed your post untill you used the word "ducking" Methinks we need a new teacha!
  23. They were on a secret mission to get rid of the cave dwellers - do you not follow threads on the hub!
  24. Before it broke?
  25. Anybody seen the new Giant 29" HT? They solve the difficulty of tyre/chainring clearance by dropping the drive side chainstay below the middle chainring edge where it meets the BB Checkout Bikeradar for the details
