  1. And we beat Australia!!!
  2. I did not do the calculation but estimate SA would have been top 5 if the Women rider´s time is excluded. Bright future for SA mtb´íng Note: I am not bashing Yolande, she is highly rated imo
  3. Go carbon if you can afford it, it does make a big difference. If it will result in you entering less races/rides (since you have less money), it is not worth it. Riding your bike is better than having the latest and greatest
  4. My wife excepts me having to vent work frustration on training/cycling. She also knows when I am looking at some girl cycling I am checking the bike out more than the girl! All my saved favourite internet sites are either work or cycle related. Money wise? As I said in a previous thread I (we) have been spending more money on wine the last two years. Time? This is sometimes an issue - especially on week-ends, I have skipped watching TV completely and train very early in the mornings, we also do alot of stuff together (prepare food, drink the above wine, etc.)
  5. Never really got along with an XTC I bought as a frame (this was some time ago). Saw a new 2011 XTC alu frame this week-end. A very well made frame, Giant really understand alu and working/forming it. If I have the opportunity would like to ride it, doubt it if I will buy it taken all the other options available.
  6. Visit the site, it is a laugh a minute, check this headline: "Local Water Tower Celebrates 50th Year As Repository Of Information On Who Is A Slut" According to University of Missouri historian Elliot Torcello, the remarkably well- preserved tower is recognized throughout the region as an indispensable archive detailing which women in the area are promiscuous, as well as whether or not they have crabs. I´ll investigate further - it might even be better than thehub
  7. Check the link below the Lance article - "164 Closeted Gay Men Having Impressive NFL Preseason" Onion Sports Network (OSN) probably stands for the tears in your eyes when reading the proffesional articles.
  8. Select your reason for choosing thehub icon amongst all the other favourite websites?
  9. I can recommend attending the service workshop, you have a good chat, learn how to service your shocks and get your shock service as well.
  10. I´ve seen numerous problems with FSA bearings from hubbers, my experience is different: In Brazil (where I currently reside) we are a bunch of people riding FSA with no problems whatsoever. I have been using the ceramic versions for 2 years. Believe me Brazil is more muddy than SA!
  11. Agree with S2S above regarding the importance of recovery. I have found active recovery (just turning the cranks for 1/2 hour on the trainer) on rest days even more beneficial than just laying-about on the coach. It can get boring so ensure there is some entertainment on the telly.
  12. Ask her to measure you also - could be more fun than cycling I have some experience with a Blur, in my opinion a medium will be too small for you
  13. Your correct, the term UST is a trademark of Mavic. All other are marketed as tubeless rims (e.g. Shimano) or tubeless ready. Same applies to the tyres, if I remember correctly UST was developed by Michelin and Mavic. Issue of royalties.
  14. All really good (big) forums have basic rules. Stick to relevant topics, ban personal attacks, don't allow blatant personal marketing and don't allow swearing or pornography! I agree with the above, as a result I only use thehub for entertainment value. If I require any serious cycling information I visit some other cycling forums.
  15. Let´s face it - cycling is not a "speedo" look sport... Ignore them, stuff your face full of food at get togethers and see them in agony
  16. I owe a pair of Specialized Pro Mtb shoes from 2005, bought them new for the 2005 Cape Epic. Used them for a Sani2C, Sabie stage race and various other stage and one-day races. Only used for racing till 2008 when I bought new racing shoes. Still have them today as training shoes, the racing replacements (Specialized SWorks) are less durable in my view. Will probably get rid of them before the year-end. Pretty beat-up soles but uppers still fine. Had to replace one of the fasteners (one of those click mechs) due to a fall in 2006. I cycle +/- 10 hours per week
  17. Spot the error (or should it be error the spot)

  19. Sent me a pm with your email adress and I´ll forward "Training with power" notes to you.
  20. You got me - visit stricklychicks.com and see what I mean
  21. Used to work in Kosovo - during the month of Ramadaan lots of fatigue accidents in the mine/plant area. We had to change the shift schedule and boost the amount and quality food. If you strickly follow Ramadaan I don´t see you doing more than 5 hours per week at 60% VO2max. If I were you I would do some social riding in the beginnng and rest for the last two weeks without any cycling.
  22. Groupset: At your price range keep with Shimano. Not knocking SRAM (I ride X0), the lower-middle end of the market is dominated by Shimano - see if you can get SLX
  23. Agree with Wheelsuck above. I would think at least 2 x 4week cyles of progressively more volume each week with the 4th week a rest week (1/2 the volume of the 3rd week). If you have serious intentions you could add another 1 4week cycle. Also keep in mind with the period you stopped cycling, you probably lost all cycling related fitness. You will however still have a cyclist mind which should help you gauge intensity, etc. and reduce the overall learning curve.
  24. Have a look on Bikeradar.com They reviewed the Anthem couple of days ago. Also a review of the Merida and Yeti. Yeti seems to be top-rated in this review
  25. I have some limited experience with 29ers. Did not find it much different performance wise - but it felt awkward. Also looks silly in smaller sizes, especially duelies. Designing a 29er seems to require more consideration - check out the chainstay modifications required to fit larger tires (2,25 and more). This requires an increase in bb shell size (to ensure larger chainring clears the chainstay), which in turn affects the chainline. Building a 29er frame or upgrading your existing parts will take some doing in SA where options are sometime limited.
