  1. The AT3 is the one I was going to get, the best buy I could locate on the web anywhere but the mounting link would not work on my bike so I bought a second hand trailer which mounts to the chainstay instead. Sprog loves it, you won't regret it and if you do will have no hassles selling it again. Here's some pics on this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/83795-the-official-riding-with-kids-thread/page__hl__%22riding+%7C+with+%7C+kids%22
  2. HAHA! Well done Steve, excellent, what sort of distance / time are we looking at here so I can either postpone / cancel prior commitments? Who else is coming, so far looks like it's just SteveCT, More Wood and myself?
  3. Any more details Steve? Keen on this one and have a partner in crime so that's 2 more on the line.
  4. Thanks for the link Marius, I was not following the Table Mountain thread. I ride Eden solo often or let the wife ride singletrack while I tow the sprog around in his trailer on the jeeptracks so the news that this is going down here is a very big cause for concern.
  5. I was told earlier today that there was a bikejacking in Eden on the lower part of the downhill course on Monday. Meurant mentioned it in the Dirtopia newsletter as well. 3 idiots ambushed and hit a rider coming down the DH course in the face and made off with his bike, a bright green Santa Cruz Bullit. I don't know the rider so have no details but as it's one of my favourite places to go for a fun ride after work I want people to be aware of what's going on here so we can try and put a stop to this crap somehow. Apparently there were five seperate similar incidents in Eden during the course of last year so 1. Be careful when riding in Eden and 2. Be on the lookout for a bright green Santa Cruz The question yet again is, where the hell are these bikes going to!??
  6. Non UST Kenda Nevegals as well as Small Block 8's and various WTB tires...no issues ever. The crappest tire of the lot was a UST Bontrager Jones which I will never buy again...massive sidewall blowout...just riding along! Trying the new Kenda Slant Six non UST as Tubeless next. OK Update a six months later...Non-Tubeless WTB started delaminating where I punctured it and some stans got in but the tire was probably the best part of two years old. Michelin XC (non-UST), small block 8 and Nevegal still going like a boeing...

    Motored Bike

You've gotta love this from the ecotrax website: "My wife who has just turned 71 went for a ride today without any mishap at all, and BE ADVISED she has never riden a motorbike before. Thanks for all your help! Cliff, Hermanus" Almost as if he expected her to have a mishap but let her have a go anyway.
  8. More Trails, was this the OnOne at the Ceres 70km with the delightful filly riding the matching steed?
  9. Got a SS specific DMR Revolver which you thread your ss freewheel onto, not too pricy and looks the business. I believe the benefit is meant to be that your wheel isn't dished so should be stronger.
  10. Morbid curiosity caused me to strip on old suspension fork I had lying in the garage last night and I would not even clean up the amount of mess I managed to make for R350.00, let alone still fix the bloody thing. I'll never complain about spending 300 - 600 bucks for a Fox service again!!!
  11. Totally agree and it's a regular occurrence! Sourpuss of note but not even that can spoil my mood when I've been in Jonkies.
  12. Slowbee: you are welcome to try either the trailer or my iBert chair, just PM me to make a plan. PhilipV: Jaco used to be in the workshop at Helderberg Cycles Williams: Top bloke, top bike porn, top shop, workshop expensive compared to where I usually go and not always the quickest when you need work done in a hurry. But when you want to feel the passion and get inspired to bend some plastic, go have a chat to William. Re Helderberg Cycle Works: I do not enjoy going into a bike shop where I get treated like an alien when I walk in by the same staff who I have met and spoken to on numerous occasions. The workshop has previously helped me quickly and efficiently but after an unpleasant incident where my wife got some serious attitude from one of the staff after they had made a mistake sellig her something which was incorrect I won't go back there. I get the feeling that place is run as a profit centre and not out of a passion for the sport. I suppose it's a business so thats their focus and it's their prerogative, it's not the kind of environment where I like to spend my bucks though.
  13. At 1'93 you should consider a 29er...contact Kiwi on the Hub, he has Kona Hei Hei 29 duallies for sale at a decent price which may be worth looking at and you could build a bike up well under budget.
  14. Would a powder coated frame have better resistance against aluminium corrosion than one that has been factory painted? I've had frame corrosion on a few painted aluminium bikes in the past but just got one which has been factory powder coated...wondering if I'm going to sweat this one to pieces too...
  15. An hour each way, mostly off road. Love it when I get the opportunity to do it.
  16. Funny no-one mentions taking your bike to Helderberg Cycle World, anyone have any experience in dealing with them?
  17. You can contact Jaco on 0847018249, they have a cycle maintenance centre in Somerset West called Cycle Function. They do delivery and collect etc, best to call him for detail.
  18. Bought a Sigma cheaply off Thomo from the hub a couple of years ago and its still going strong, no complaints about it yet, simple menu system, water proof enough, maybe I'm just not used to anything better or with more functionality but it gets me through the long rides without popping a lung or cramping in both legs, front and back, top and bottom, like I used to. Oh and you can replace the battery in the chest strap chop-chop yourself.
  19. Did the Vasbyt 165km road race when I was 14 on my le Turbo Grand Prix a long long time ago ...first "race" I attempted ever ...had no clue whatsoever about what I was doing, went out full blast and came crawling in crying like a little baby close to 7 hours later.
  20. I have in turn taken both our little dude and our little dog to the Stellenbosch Slow Food Market which I am sure anyone who has been there will agree is a total babe haven. In my experience the kid gets all the grannies googoo and gaga which is probably the last thing you need when kicking back with a slow brewed bottle of Darling ale, the puppy on the other hand is a fantastic catalyst for an impromptu cleavage festival. Dog gets my vote, hands down.

    Brake Setup

With the advent of disc brakes you certainly do not need a strong hand to be able to stop a bike, I'd say having your clever hand doing the tricky bit keeping your face out the gravel is of much greater importance. No matter how hard I try I can't get my friends to agree that they are ALL wrong with front brake left. The only reason it annoys me is I like swapping and trying different bikes on the trails and it usually puts a bit of a damper on proceedings when you are not used to the brake setup. I bet you half the people on the hub would have to think long and hard about which brake does what....or would have to go look in the garage to check.
  22. There was a guy and girl doing the Ceres 70km on Summer Season singlespeeds...massive hats off to them. What do you want to use the bike for? If it's for ripping singletrack, playing, having fun, commuting and doing the odd event I think you already know my answer. If you are competitive or a weight weenie I guess you could join the Scandium crowd...I prefer comfort over weight and I like the idea of a steel bike, whether there really IS much of a difference in ride or whether it is the placebo effect I don't know...it somehow just feels right. To me it sounds like you are about as indecisive about what you want to ride as I am...every day a new flavour pops up. You already have the Inbred 26...why don't you build an Inbred 29 to match it? Or bring yours to Jonkershoek and you can try mine...we can hook up a Hub singlespeed ride. Maybe someone will be nice enough to bring a medium Shova for me to try out...
  23. OK here is my real rider input, I have the first generation Inbred 29 and it's an awesome ride, I have not tried a Scandal but the steel Inbred is a lot more forgiving than the old aluminium hardtail that I still have lying unused in the garage. I've hit the odd jump with it and landings have been suprisingly smooth, much nicer than aforementioned aluminium Giant XTC...it just doesn't have that same "jarring" effect. I don't know what it is about that Inbred...my trailbike is my favourite bike to thrash or when I'm feeling aggressive and I really LIKE it ... the Inbred however is my pride and joy and I LOVE it! I guess I also like something different to the rest of the crowd...just far too many generic aluminium bikes out there. I wouldn't mind the Inbred Summer Season with a longer travel fork as a playbike though...saw two of them rigged as single speeds in Ceres and they looked awesome.
  24. That's like asking "Will I lose the taste of hamburger if I decide to eat a hot dog instead?"

    Rusty Tools

Oil and a bit of steelwool. Sorted. Then do what I do with my potjie pot...some crumbled up newspaper inside your toolbox absorbs any moisture and prevents further rust.
