  1. Shap shap, thanks! I need to look the part to go with my new bike
  2. This frame wasn't welded to the tunes of AC/DC like my last Intense was, but so far I like the sound more!
  3. I'm digging top right. As an aside, where TF does one actually buy TLD kit? CRC never has the correct sizes of a specific style in stock, or they're ridiculously expensive, or [insert issue here]. I've always wanted to wear TLD, but it seems almost impossible to get hold of the stuff...
  4. Yep, they slighty improve modulation in my experience.
  5. Resin: Quieter, stops better, but doesn't last nearly as long (actually, can get destroyed with one muddy ride) Metal: Slightly noisy (depends on the model), slightly less power, lasts much longer. Take your pick...
  6. That reminds me, I need to pay G-spot a visit soon... Haven't been there in years, and the beast will be the perfect tool for the job!
  7. Who needs a rear brake? One last bit to sort out, I need longer housing and will be sorting that out in the next day or two...
  8. I've joined the family... Here's the full thread (write-up to follow): http://www.thehubsa....-beast-is-born/ In the meantime, I can't help not posting a pic here!
  9. So, after having been riding (and enjoying riding) a fairly "mass-market" Scott Scale since the beginning of 2013, I decided it was time for something special again. The Scale's an amazing climber, and because of it's sub-70deg HA, it actually handles a bit of tech quite respectably, but I've been missing railing into berms flat out and then bouncing off the gnarly stuff on the way out. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a well-cared-for Pyga OneTen29 last week and proceeded to rebuild it with a mixture of new and used parts. The spec list: Frame: Pyga OneTen29 2012, serial number "Cliff", Shock: Rockshox Monarch RT3 Fork: Mongrel Rockshox Relevation (2012 lowers, 2014 RCT3 upper assembly with FastBlack stanchions) Wheelset: Novatec Flowtrail 29 Tyres: Rocket Ron 2.25 rear, Hans Dampf 2.35 front Cranks: XX1 156q GXP Derailleur: X9 type 2 short-cage Shifter: X0 black Brakes: XT 785 Rotors: XT RT76, 180mm front, 160mmm rear Pedals: XT 785 Trail Stem: FSA SL-K Bar: Truvativ Noir T40 Seatpost: Easton EA70 Saddle: Fizik Tundra 2 Mg The raw finish of the frame was looking a bit dull and scratched in places, so I took everything apart and applied some TLC with steel wool and a scourier sponge in places. Cliff from Pyga was very helpful in supplying a new decal kit, which pimped things out again afterwards. I spent a few nights last week and some time over the weekend building stuff up (thanks to Marc at Crown Cycles for helping with a few bits and bobs during Argus mania). The end result since last night is this: I have yet to ride it any further than the road in front of the house, so will report back as soon as the first ride is over. So far, I've been mighty impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the beast. Hot damn!
  10. Yeah, I kinda found that too with the normal Nevegals. But, I had a UST set on the 5.5 and they were - even though ridiculously heavy but bulletproof - less "hovercrafty"... They roll as slowly as a tractor though, regardless. Going to be running a Hans Dampf/RoRo combo on my new bike (shhhh... ) soon, looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
  11. Be prepared to exert a little bit of extra effort in the pedalling department... Nevegals hook up well, but they're the slowest-rolling tyres I've used. I don't dislike them though, the grip is excellent, you just have to get used to the extra resistance.
  12. Yep, I had something similar on a Revelation.
  13. Yep, based on what you've already spent on, I'd also look at brakes. Keep an eye out for a good deal on an SLX set. Still, upgrade those shift cables anyway!
  14. Something very few people would recommend: Get yourself a top-end set of cables. XTR is excellent value, you won't believe the difference it makes to your shifting. Next, look at a really nice seat and good grips, an ESI Chunky set will do the trick. Also consider pedals, within your budget. Contact points with your bike - Spend on them.
  15. Thanks awesme, I will do just that.
  16. Hi guys, A quick question: Can a OneTen run 156q GXP cranks? I'm looking at a frame and have an XX1 crankset that I'd like to take across onto it, but apparently the narrower Q factor has clearance issues with some FS frames (it's currently bolted onto a HT)... Does anyone know?
  17. Sweet. I had an Ascent (blue) of the same year, always wished I could have an Axis, or even an Apex. Was going to ask if those original rings were Bio-Pace until I saw the closeup!
  18. I'm confused.
  19. Jeepers Alton, glad to hear you're OK! Well done on staying calm...
  20. The wisest question I've read in weeks...
  21. My Oakley collection is expanding... Latest addition: matt black and bronze Garage Rock. Because old skool is kool!
  22. OK, yes, my thinking was to use it as a post-gym evening snack or post-gym supplement to breakfast. My breakfasts have in past been huge (as in, a massive bowl consisting of ProNutro, Corn Flakes and assorted muesli), so I'm finding it difficult to just have a bowl of greek yoghurt with nuts. Eggs are great, but I don't always feel like spending the time needed to make them in the morning...
  23. A quick question, seeing as I'm new to this. A while ago (before starting LCHF) I bought a tub of USN Protein Dessert. I hauled it out of the cupboard yesterday while feeling hungry, carefully having a look at the ingredients to figure out whether it's something I could have. Bearing in mind the general rule about staying away from over-processed stuff, what do you guys think? Would it be wise to go with this as an occasional top-up when the fridge is empty? It's high-protein, low-carb (just over 3g of carbs per serving) but of course it's powder so I have no idea what it really contains...
  24. Muppetry. EDIT: One of the reasons I ride my bike is to get away from political battles, I deal with them on a large scale each day within corporate structures. @#$ me if I'm going to even think about fighting and debating when I'm focused on bike related stuff. I've been mountain biking for almost 25 years and I've never seen this kind of BS amongst a group of people who are largely on the same team. I'm out, you guys go ahead and fight, I'm going to ride my bike alone and enjoy it.
