  1. When is SA Champs? I would like to come watch!
  2. According to Ansys the 2 x M4 screws will hold just fine under a static load of 34 kg. (If you fill your water bottles with lead.) The bolts and nuts won't fail unless they haven't been tightened properly resulting in bending moments around the screw heads.
  3. Niner EMD running 36 x 18. Edit: Struggled to upload the photo...
  4. I did a short augmented reality route today. It is a nice feature that has a lot of potential, which can add some spice to the existing routes. If I could add my wish list to the Rouvy developers: The Rouvy ghost riders should display a certain W/kg average as you pass them or they pass you.More virtual partners (ranked by time and W/kg) should be displayed to allow you to get the 'race' feel. I selected a virtual partner that dropped me within the first 5 meters, never to be seen again. The video rendering should go through a more refined buffering modeler, to reduce the twitches the rider on screen experiences. I would however suggest that Zwift users do not change to Rouvy yet, as there should still be many fixes and tweaks done before the official version is released. Once that is performed however, I suspect quite a few Watopia guys will try to test their mettle on real (augmented) climbs.
  5. The 250 W Strava figure was not accurate. Here is a website that computes it for you: https://www.gribble.org/cycling/power_v_speed.html Assumptions for Hector Norris and Gert: Frontal Area of TT position: 0.32Gert + Bike: 80 kgDrag coefficient: 0.7Air Density: 1.225 kg/m3Track Surface: 0.008 - 0.012 Realistically, he pushed about 370 W an entire hour. Someone would need about 425 W output to break the 50 km mark.
  6. Interesting! So if I would remove my HRM after 20 seconds on 80% HR average, but continue with my activity for 30 minutes, my average HR will remain at 80% and I will get my 300 points?
  7. Germiston Wheelers do exactly that each year. That also allows for a support vehicle if something unexpectedly happens. You can ask Hubber Frosty for details if they are doing it again.
  8. Before the generic "IT DEPENDS ON MANY OTHER INFLUENCES" mob answers.... 270 W FTP, > 3.3 W/kg

    Who remembers?

Wow, that is a brilliant restoration project! That the 1955 model? Where/how did you overhaul the engine?
  10. Looked like a lekker race, I am also considering doing it next year. Was the last uphill drag on the N17 steep enough to split the bunches?
  11. I think this technology is aimed at the moment for non-woodworkers. People who would like odd shaped tables or chairs but who are intimidated by the mathematics and power tools involved. I really like the automation steps this allows. Although not as useful now, the final destination would be to design custom furniture, email the CAD file to a workshop and receive an IKEA type box back for assembly.
  12. Hi Warthog You first need to save the routes onto your phone's Osmand directory. Card/Phone ->Android->data->net.osmand->files->tracks. Just save both routes within the tracks folder. Next, you need to activate your phone's GPS and open the Osmand App. Once open, you press the Directions tab (The right turn icon), then press Settings (the gear icon), scroll down to the bottom and select the relevant route with the GPX route option. It should then allow you to navigate the route, with a woman's voice warning you of all critical turns. That allows you to put your phone in your cycling jersey without too much worries of missing a turn.
  13. If I have the legs, I will always attempt a break away and up the pace in the last few km and sprint it out with a few randoms in my group. That is where an organized race differs from a high tempo group ride. For that few seconds I feel like Sagan or Gilbert. In the grand scheme of things, my 12 834th position means nothing, and shouldn't even influence anybody else. With no malice intended, I would jokingly change your quote: At this amateur level, seeding rarely matters. So why save your energy to just to sit in the bunch with 5k to go?
  14. What is the most valuable surprise reward that you received thus far in the 2 or 3 months of the new reward system? I once won a R100 Nando's voucher and the rest of the spins only the core additional smoothie/popcorn rewards. Although it feels very promising spinning the wheel, I doubt that the holiday package rewards are even active.
  15. Brandon, were you riding on a Cannondale Slate during this year's race? Because I remember that rider had to portage through some of the water gullies.
  16. They take into account your saseeding.co.za results, so that means most of the MTB races that influence your national seeding (National & Trailseeker series). Other Dryland events, UCI points and previous Atta results also weigh in to your general seeding. Just remember that the average rider at the Attakwas is an A-batch rider, so expect to be seeded further back if it is your first time riding it.
  17. Ironic that most of us spend our entire year in busy Jozi, and when it finally becomes rustig here, we head down to the busy and overcrowded coast to 'relax'.
  18. Efora is lekker low at the moment. Exonn Mobil on Nasdaq just took a firm stance for green energy and sustainability, but I think it is a bit late to investigate that option. My bad opinion: Sustainability and green tech is not yet high on the priority list of South African shareholders.
  19. I would always be in two minds if I had two stay in Groot Brak/Glentana region: Fishing or cycling??. I remember posing at that exact bench on two occasions: Once a leaning-bike selfie, and the other holding a freshly caught 5 kg kob.
  20. Ah ok, but I do remeber reading it. Apologies then for sharing false info
  21. A derogatory term for an African man with a large penis. I never knew or heard the term, but this was the explanation written in Ride magazine many years ago! I actually find the name fitting.
  22. Well done on your ride Taito! Speaking of big balls, I hope everyone is aware where the term Munga comes from!
  23. I am a bit frustrated at the moment: Timbercity, Builder's Warehouse and Mica sell salinga dowels that are smaller than their description. Which resulted in me drilling 10 mm and 6 mm holes, only to find nasty gaps when I wanted to install the the dowels. How do Hubbers plug dowels? Use drill bits that are not common sizes?Turn your own dowel pins?Take your vernier to the shops and measure dowels?
  24. How long have you had your TRA 001 and have you ever replaced the brushes? Except regular cleaning to remove sawdust, there doesn't seem much maintenance to be done on the unit.
  25. It is actually funny how we (myself included) get excited about smoothie rewards, even if we are paying for it indirectly. https://www.businesslive.co.za/bd/companies/2017-09-19-how-discoverys-initiatives-are-paying-off/ This is not financial advise, but if you want to get excited about something, buy Vitality Group shares. Medical Aid providers are making a killing.
