  1. 99.999 % solo on Road and MTB in the Cradle. Once in the weekend the 2 weekend rides. Worst mishap was getting taken out by a car - luckily insurance replaced frameset and just broken ribs...🙂
  2. Have you checked the inner cable? Mine got really trashed near the shifter that in my case delayed downshifts....long shot but try it? Agree with the post above, you open a shifter at your peril. Good luck!
  3. I know there's a following but I believe cup n cone should no longer be manufactured.....🙂
  4. This is the price for the MTB version....they are beyond insane....
  5. If I were to get one, is it LBS and Cool Heat only?
  6. Thanks Droo, much appreciated. Makes perfect sense but you don't know for sure till you know .....
  7. Hi there I noticed a bit of a split in the "stopper plate" on my FC6700 cranks at the pinch bolts. How essential is this part and can I get a replacement? If so, does anyone have one available? Cheers
  8. To the chop in the Discovery 3 that raced into Pedal & Sprocket in a cloud of dust this morning, it's completely unnecessary to share your dust with us plebs while the operators of the property water the road to reduce the dust....and while you rushed in like you were late you then acted as if you were way early so there obviously wasnt an emergency ...don't be a ****...be lekker!
  9. Yip, was very happy to drop off 2 more forks for some magic and great service yesterday!
  10. I've seen a bike shop weld a cross brace on the request of the customer......fact.
  11. Is that a weld mark on the cross brace? Going by the picture the seller went out of his way to hide the fact that the stanchions are toast and the forks were sprayed to quickly put a frog on a dead pig. Seller knew what he was doing so to my mind that's only one step away from taking your money and not sending forks NOT COOL!
  12. Wow, I'll be watching to see what Droo etc say about the lockout or whats left of it or what it even is. In essence NO fork for R400 is going to be usable for anything other than as a fishing rod holder (upside down). Sorry for the bad experience.
  13. I'll second that 100%. We were there for my son to run the Soweto Marathon, (bigger than 947 too!) and we saw ZERO issues. The car guards on the big price of grass on the Northern side wanted money but we agreed I'd pay something when safe on return. What made the difference was Eyethu Events security - I've worked with these guys before as well as with 947 when Tanya Harford still owned it. I put the issues down to the new organisers either not giving a **** OR saving money. We sat and watched while the Eyethu guy stopped spectators getting into the road and was very active. The gees at Soweto Marathon was huge - if you ran the 10k you'll still hear me shouting...🙂
  14. I have an older Fox 32 Evo that can't increase from 100mm and a Rockshox which I had extended to 120mm and I alternate forks - go figure....I prefer the slightly slacker head angle (I was told by a notable character in the game and very successful past pro cyclist) that it makes a 1 degree difference to head angle on my 2015 model frame. I emailed Fox in the USA the serial no and they confirmed it couldn't go to 120mm and my understanding is most RS can and with Fox it depends. Id suggest go for it.
  15. I visited a well known bike shop in Woodmead on Monday last week. Admittedly they don't have the most in-demand workshop but on asking about 947 I was told they have seen very little demand and there seemed to be less hype in general. Ok, I don't listen to 947 ALL the time but over the years there was always a lot of hype and they also used to do some small events in the Cradle for Newbies.....didn't notice any of that. Im in a similar boat to you and have a few kg's of finishers medals to show for it (anyone need an anchor for their patio furniture? ) but my concern is (voiced earlier) how people ride in the groups...at almost 60 I'm allergic to some idiot hitting brakes in the bunch and putting me in hospital (coming back from 2 general anaesthetics for prostate cancer - now in remission thankfully), I rather just ride my roadbike 2 days a week and my mtb once. I may do some mtb races again next year knowing that if I prang its usually going to be my fault....
  16. Had a few of those over the years, you did the right thing - Speedy recovery!
  17. I think Tanya Harford sold the event at just the right time. Having worked with her and her management team I think it's a hard act for anyone to follow, as she was one tough cookie.....who else gets to tell the JMPD Chief whats what (and more) in the JOC in front of everybody!. For the new guys its maybe more of a business whereas 947 and Walk The Talk were her passion.
  18. I suppose one of those nasties CAN affect the brain....🤣
  19. 🤣. Yip. I don't understand why it's either hell for leather or hitting brakes....if you're paying attention it's either stick your head up out the draft or a light feather of the brakes. In my last Ride For Sight guys were passing in the (expressly forbidden) oncoming car lane and in the bunch some hectic braking saw guys take to the dirt to avoid....I'm too old and like my skin where it is 🙂
  20. Good luck to everyone riding tomorrow. Be fleet but be safe. After 9 or 10 of them in the last 23 years I can confidently state I won't do another road race - did Ride 4 Sight and 947 about 3 or4 years ago and was appalled by how the STD of bunch riding had declined - even in seeded groups. Wishing you good weather also.
  21. I love Froomey to bits and I'd love to see or have seen him comeback but I'm a realist and just don't see him being competitive. His latest YT video about being "ready" for the tour and the claims about bike setup have done it for me. I don't know if he's trying to hang on for one more year of salary or what it is but Froomey can see his power numbers and so can the team -no DS in his right mind would block a great riders participation in a grand tour if he's at the requested level. Bike setup? No way. At that level he'd notice it. Even an old amateur such as me would notice 2-3mm each way. I've seen Froomey ride a too small Shimano backup bike - it was ugly but he made it work for a bit
  22. Had some wheels rebuilt at Cyclelab Fourways. They did a great job and were cheaper than a few other LBS I tried
  23. As much as I love Froomey it's not a comeback but more like a recovery. If he was "ready" for the tour, why did he finish way, way down the GC in both the arbitrary races he's ridden in since? You could say he peaked for the tour but it must have been a very spikey peak....and he would have had SOME form a month or so after. As much as I hate airing dirty laundry in public Ala F1's Guenther Steiner on Mick Schumacher, even the Israel team boss is now expressing buyers remorse....
  24. Agreed. The top 3 are in a completely new league if you look at how the climbing records got trashed ( forgot which climb) but that's because next month I get to start riding busses for free..
