  1. I bought myself one some time back and it really does a great job of cleaning chains. I even put a set of 8 speed STI levers through it the other night. However, beware of putting anodized parts in it for too long, it will strip the anodizing off rather quickly.
  2. The one you should never have sold, that brings back great memories, be that of your youth, races victories, touring etc. Share a photo if you have one 🤙 My alias will give mine away but it has to be my first MK2 Raleigh Chopper. I got it as a laaitie in the early 80's and that bike allowed me the freedom to ride the town flat. It also kick started my love for bicycles. I could wheelie it for blocks but I also had some of the biggest wipe-outs of my life on it. That small front wheel caused major speed wobbles and the result was normally the lost of a lot of skin 😲☠️ It eventually got stolen and my folks replaced it with something boring that made more sense as a commuter to school & sports. A couple of years ago I bought a banged up one and did a full restoration of it. It's still standing in my lounge and I take it out once in a while for a burn around the block. I unfortunately can't wheelie it at all anymore 😄 Photo off the net
  3. Some really helpful advice on here that most of us can take to heart & apply in our own lives, thanks 🤙 I'm somewhat ADHD and get super bored of something really quickly. What works for me is variety, not only different sports but even different bicycles. I'll get tired of MTBing for a while and then I'll hit the road, gravel or vintage bikes. Just the change of pace and scenery for a month or two is enough to ease my mind and get my mojo back. All the best going forward 🤙
  4. Corsa 2.0's have just been removed from my Fathers Day wish list 🙄
  5. I stood in CWC and weighed up the warranty options between the Scott's and Orbea's and settled on the Orbea for this very reason. I'm glad about that after reading this. All the best in getting it resolved, I can understand your frustration, especially if the bike hasn't lived a hard life.
  6. I'd appreciate the cassette for one of my vintage bikes please.
  7. Got an old school mate running his 24th Comrades Marathon this year as The Pink Fairy to raise funds the the SPCA in KWT. The things this oke has done for fundraising is just incredible, he's a special human 🤙 He's Michael John Webb on FB if you want to check how he goes about promoting his cause.
  8. Sadly this race date conflicts with the Vine & Views race in Vredendal which is also the WP Champs. Would love to have done both 😔
  9. Yeah, I've held onto the hope for way too long that a comeback might be possible but I now believe the writing is firmly on the wall. I still believe he has much offer in terms of a brand ambassador but certainly not as a contender or even super domestique.
  10. Yeah, I see one of the riders in that interview commented on the riding being "negative" so I'm assuming they marked each other out of the game, hence Matt working too much. Lachy's interview at the end had me chuckling... "Did you ride with a power meter?" Lachy... "What was I gonna do with that?" 🤣🤣 What a biscuit 😄
  11. I'm wondering if it wasn't like a road race in the chasing bunch and the favourites just marked themselves right out of the race? Lachy probably figured there's a chance of that happening and rolled the dice.
  12. Bloody hell, as a father of two young woman that just makes my blood boil 🤬
  13. Sorry to have missed the opening night. Wishing Matt everything of the best in his new business venture and trust they'll be well supported by the local cycling community 🤙
  14. This was a very lekka ride, just way faster than I was expecting. I got shelled by the front bunch as soon as it hit the dirt and everyone started bouncing around. Once the gap opened there was no way it was going to close, the front okes were hooking it and in all honesty, my legs were absolutely dead from 36One (half) the previous weekend so I just let them go and focused on trying to find my own rhythm. I only found my legs again at around 120km but by then it was way too late. Got into small group which I believe included the legendary Mamil (orange Checkpoint?) and we tried coaching some gravel newbies on how to ride an effective pace-line (I was on the baby blue Giant Revolt). It worked, kinda but all split apart again at the 80km+ water point where most stopped and I rolled through. I carried enough liquid with me to get me through the race (2l Camelbak & 2 x full 750ml bottles) but stopped at the last water point to grab a cold Coke, which was a God send by that stage, if only to stretch the back and legs. Unintentionally rolled off the front of our small group with about 15km's to go when everyone's legs were properly smoked but then unfortunately took a detour up a small climb after someone turned a direction board 🤪 That was rather unnecessary but we were racing for a top 100 so it made no real difference at that stage except to extract the last bit of energy out of my soul 😄 Rolled in at 6hr27min and settled down for a well deserved beer & pizza and bit of chit chat. Was just really pleased not to experience the crippling cramps I had at 36One but that could also have a lot to do with far less elevation gain on this route. I'll be back for sure. It was a well organized and pleasant event 🤙 Tire pressures - I'm 82kg's and was running 47C Vittoria Terreno's at 2bars. Rear was okay but front was too hard, I bounced around way too much.
  15. Yup, those roads will be perfect by tomorrow, just slightly damp and fast rolling 👍
  16. Sorry to hear, I'll be keeping extra eyes out on the classifieds for you.
  17. Skud skud, skud jou biscuit... all part of Gravel racing... bring it on 🤙
  18. Looking at the times from last year shows this race is seriously fast, I can see why it's suited to gravel bikes. I guess with similar elevation gain over 160km's to the Cape Town Cycle Tour that's too be expected. I'm considering doing it on one of my vintage bikes with 28C tires. Just hoping there's not too much mud otherwise I'll be in for a very long day 🤪
  19. So Sat looks like it going to be dry but somewhat chilly. How those roads are going to hold up to the all the rain coming on Thurs & Fri is going to be interesting, let's hope they won't become slush puppies.
  20. I frikkin knew it 🤣🤣 I heard it prevents unplanned pregnancies as well 🤙
  21. Maybe because you see it every day @J Wakefield but for the Average Joe that's a Double Century, the kind of event mere mortals train month for. While I have you here, that "Cherry" juice riders take directly after a stage, is it pure Cherry juice or a mixture of berries & apple juice? Or is it a cherry coloured masking agent? 😉
  22. Yeah I think the majority of the surface was a lot better this year than previous years so I can get that the gravel bikes were faster. Rooiberg descent in particular was so much better this year. The only suss spot was the river gorge towards the end of the race but that was short enough to take cautiously. Admittedly that last 20km section of gravel was bloody terrible, even with front suspension 😄 It's luck of the draw I guess, unless you pre-ride or have some insider knowledge before the race on the conditions. Either way, I was happy with my choice, both for gearing and suspension, it works for us older toppies 😊 What size tires did you run on your gravel bike @Skubarra
  23. I did the Half as well and was lucky enough to win the Team race, largely thanks to my partner (Mark from Mark's Bicycle Workshop) who was an absolute beast and dragged & pushed me through the last 60km's. I can't say much about the views because I was staring at a Vittoria terreno tire all day but apparently they were spectacular. We couldn't have asked for better weather or water points, it was superb although our stops were brief. Dryland certainly know how to put an event together... except for that 10km neutral section that wasn't part of the official 189km, that was a nasty surprise when I was staring at my Garmin praying for the pain to stop. When they eventually let us loose the start speed in the dark was insane. The gravel okes hit the front and hooked it. The first 20km's passed in a blur of dust and dim lighting. You needed nads of steel to sit a wheel in those conditions and hope to God you don't hit a lurker and end your race before it has really begun. Strongs to the young lady who lost it coming down Rooiberg, hope you heal up well and you are back on the bike soon. The choice of my hardtail over my gravel bike was the right one. After racing it a few years ago on my Revolt, I found the hardtail a lot better, especially on the faster downhills. I ran 47C gravel tires so needed to be careful at the river crossings but they rolled beautifully on the open road. In agreement with those beer prices, that was a joke. I don't need fancy Belgium beer after a race, Castle Lite will do just fine thanks. Sadly the numbers were down a lot on previous years. I'm not sure if that's related to the risk of poor weather, price of the entry fees or the poor economy or a combination of them all but the event certainly deserves to be supported based on the organizing alone, it was excellent.
  24. A mate of mine was attacked on Sunday afternoon around 5pm, very close to the Pot Belly Pantry on the R44 to Stellenbosch. Two perps forced him off the road in a vehicle and robbed him of his cell phone at gunpoint. They then tried driving off but got their vehicle stuck after veering too far off the road trying to corner him. They got out the vehicle again to try get the car unstuck and he pleaded with them to please give back his drivers license. They refused and he lost the plot and tackled the guy with the gun (yeah nuts, I know but he said his fight or flight instinct kicked in big time). A scuffle ensued in which he ended up wrestling with both of them. One broke free and kicked him badly while he was focusing on the guy with the weapon. He eventually subdued both and flagged down a good Samaritan who went to fetch the cops at Klapmuts. Both were arrested and are appearing in court today. Their vehicle was also impounded. He is beaten up quite badly from all the kicking but he's alive and positive and is determined to get these cowardly bastards prosecuted for their actions. Get well soon bud 👍
  25. Always a beautiful area to explore 👍
