  1. I just sold my old hardtail 29er for R3K. You can barely buy a decent set of MTB tires for that price. Granted it was too a friend but the market is beyond dead at the moment. Suck it up and move on if you want to compete with the Jones's.
  2. WOW, that's special, well done Robyn 👏
  3. It's pretty clear that Visma want to make every stage as hard as possible in the hope that Taddy will fatigue more than Jonas over time. Even Taddy questioned their motive yesterday. I'm guessing this is their best strategy at try to beat a rider that they know is at the top of his game. Jonas has proven to get better with time so it's not altogether a bad idea. Realistically, what other options do they have now? It obviously has the potential to backfire spectacularly.
  4. I couldn't agree more Nick, they're dealing with a freak of nature that's absolutely on top of his game right now. I'm not so sure one bad day in the mountains is going to be enough, they might need a week of bad days considering how loaded UAE is with support climbers. Worst of all, it's hard not to like Taddy, the kid just loves racing his bike. It's not like you want him to lose, you just want him to lose by a lot smaller margin 😅
  5. I'm really hoping the final script is not already written because that will make for an extremely boring tour. My brain is saying it is but my heart is hoping for a lot more from Visma.
  6. Wow, that's a BIG move for Nils, also explains his current clean-up drive 😅
  7. I understand where you're coming from Laurence, I have a Dual Sus with 1 x 12 and a Hardtail with 2 x 10 and I prefer the 2 x10 for the type of riding I do. On the 1 x 12, I often find myself searching for that sweet spot on the flatter faster roads.
  8. A normal Yale lock through each disk brake is a great way to stop them riding off with your bike as well. It will force them to carry it which immediately looks suspect and is not as fast.
  9. I'm just fascinated you actually got something for your money, even if it was only soap. A thief with a "slight" conscience 🙄
  10. For some further motivation, I often ride with a guy that was over 180kgs at his heaviest. He's now in the low 90kg bracket and he literally rides rings around us. It's incredible what can be done through determination. All the best on your wellness journey Mapsito, you've already taken the biggest and boldest step, now just keep on at it and the results will come 👍
  11. That looks absolutely spectacular @michaelbiker 🤙
  12. My opinion differs from yours, why can't the two be mutually beneficial? You have a personal goal and the charity has a need. Charities the world over support these initiatives for this very reason.
  13. Best way is put your bike in the car and the wife on the rack 😉
  14. According to Luke's IG, he "crashed his brains out" on lap 2 😖 Pity because he was into the top 10 at the time.
  15. I'm not sure how many times people still need to hear this but STAY AWAY FROM KAYAMANDI !!! It's a known hotspot and your chances of losing your bike or life are getting higher each week. Until something gets done by the authorities (don't hold your breath) then find somewhere else to ride your bike. They're even targeting motorcyclists at those traffic lights now for their backpacks and cell phones.
  16. Well done guys 🤝
  17. I'd take the fork to an engineering shop and have them mill a custom alum plug for the steerer and then just bond/glue it into the top of the carbon steerer tube. With modern bonding agents it will never come loose, especially if you insert it around 10cm. If you've ever tried getting an stuck alum seatpost out of a carbon frame you will understand why I say this and that's without any bonding agent present.
  18. I'll get back to you tomorrow 🤙
  19. @RobertWhitehead Did you come right with a fork? I think I still have a QR 29er Fox lying in my stash somewhere that I bought some time ago for a project bike that I never got around to. If you still looking then I'll go search for it.
  20. Wow, this looks like a wonderful adventure, all the best 🤙
  21. I'm just echoing what everyone else is telling you, gravel bikes are great for audax events 🤙 For last years Double Century, I slapped a set of 28C road tires on my spare set of wheels and rode the event on my Revolt. It proved perfect, despite my concerns that the bunch might ride away from me on the high speed sections due to the compact gearing. This wasn't the case and I could tuck in behind and sit slip comfortably and then on the big climbs, the lower gearing was an added bonus 👍 I intend doing the same this year but I'm going to go for 32C tires this time for an even more comfy ride 😊
  22. The first 2 comments here make logical sense. Make sure the bikes are mechanically sound and just ride them. I watched a documentary last week on some young SA laaities that rode their old skedonks all the way from Jbg to CT so your bikes are more than capable of riding 100's of kilometers 👍 Have fun 🤙
  23. The early COLUMBUS decals never specified the grade of tubing used, that's part of what make it difficult to identify the model.
