  1. Best of all, the people with e-bikes don't give a continental f&^k what others think about their e-bike habits, they're just loving their bikes. It's just the amish riders that are stuck-up about it and have a bug to bare 🤣 We recently bought one for my wife after she rented one on a trip to Tuscany and really enjoyed it. Now she hits the trails with me every second morning and she's loving it. Her dual-susp Anthem has been hanging in the rafters for the past 5 years, untouched because it's too much of a mountain to climb (literally & figuratively) to get fit enough to ride with me. Now she doesn't need to stress about that. How's that not a good thing? After breaking my collarbone and damaging my knee in an accident in Oct last year, I used the same e-bike for my knee rehabilitation. It allowed me to still get out and enjoy my favourite trails without placing full load on the knee. I'm now converted and see one on the horizon for me as well in the not to distance future. They're freaking great at what they do and that's get people off couches and onto saddles. Sounds like a win to me 🤙 Ain't no way I'm de-restricting that bike either. I'm already struggling to keep up with her in the mountains, I have no intention of making my life harder 😅
  2. Yes, just be careful of snakes basking on the road in summer. Last time I used that road I was on my KTM690 and came across 3 of them.
  3. It really is terrible stuff. I'd advise you to sell off all your old Campag parts before they become totally worthless. Heck, I'd even be willing to take them off your hands for a small fee 😇
  4. Initially my result wasn't reflecting at all but I never had the energy to mail them over the weekend. This morning I see my race number is now reflecting but there's no name linked to it. That just looks like incompetence to me, how come my permanent board suddenly doesn't have my name linked to it? I see there's plenty like that as well so their database might have glitched. Anyway, I never won the race so it's no biggy, just a bit irritating.
  5. I normally enter the Long route but gave it up this year to race the inaugural Trilogy Challenge (my first gravel race nogals). A bonus was winning 2 free entry tickets for the missus and myself (Thanks Tygerberg MTB Club). Sadly she was told she wasn’t able to use her ebike on the Trilogy so she had to do the short course, which she ended up loving. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off to find ebikes racing with us and have some of them reflecting in the results ahead of me as well 😠. Not ayoba and that’s something that needs to be addressed next year plz. The race itself was simply bloody awesome… and fast. Gees it was balls to the wall from the gun. Yeah, I agree that a neutral zone through the burbs is a great idea as well, for safety reasons. Guys were taking silly risks not to lose the front bunch there. Thankfully we rode 11km’s to the start so I was prepared for the fast start and it allowed me to hang with the front bunch right up to the left turn onto the gravel halfway up Fisantekraal. My strava shows splits where we were averaging 43km/h 😲 Here it pretty much split up quite dramatically and small groups were left chasing all over the route. The route itself was a good balance but more gravel would obviously have been great. The sections of the Klipheuwel mountain bike course that were added were perfect and well suited to a gravel bike. When I rocked up at the start and saw so many MTBs, I was rather concerned that they knew something I didn’t but my fear proved unfounded, the gravel bike performed great. The trickiest part was getting the tire pressure perfect for such a large sections of tar but also not bone jarring for the mountain bike section. The wind worked us over as well but luckily with the route winding through the wheat fields, it helped somewhat. I hope the woman that ramped the first A-frame and knocked herself out is okay? I’m not sure how many more times the organizers need to mention that riders should be aware of the A-frames before riders catch a wake up. My HR stats for the race were rather eye watering; Z4 & Z5 the whole race. I raced the whole XCM series last year and never saw figures like this 🙄. It just shows that the route never had much place to rest and recover, flat and fast all the way. Excluding the ebikes, I should have placed top 25 which I’m pretty chuffed about… Not that my name is showing in the results, Finishtime haven’t got that right yet either. Well done to the organizers, it was a superbly organized event, from registration right through to prize giving. Thank you to every single helper and marshal out there, your assistance and friendly cheers were most appreciated. The kids screaming and shouting on Odendal were incredible as well. Th Bonus on the day... I won a Lucky Draw prize… Yup, 2 Free Tickets to next years race and some goodies from D’ville Cycles…. See you on the Trilogy start line 😁🤙
  6. Rather interesting to hear the numbers are up yet the biking industry is taking major shots. It contradicts what's happening in the market.
  7. I'm giving the Trilogy a shot as well 🤙
  8. I wonder what the guarantee is like on the frame? The lifetime guarantee on the Orbea is one of the things that attracted me to buying it for my wife.
  9. I do like the logic they applied to the frame geometry, they make some valid points in there 🤙 The bike looks fast while standing still, which is always a bonus 😉 I just checked the prices on the website as well... very competitive.
  10. It's effectively the same motor, just slightly down-tuned to give you better battery life.
  11. Nice, it will be interesting to see how the price compares to the Orbea Rise that runs the same EP8 motor.
  12. It's spelled as "Khayamandi". The place where the most cyclists mugging happen in the Cape and we are encouraged to go and support an event happening there. Yeah, good luck with that 🤙
  13. That's a really silly post by Chris and rather unexpected from him. All it does is give drivers a chance to validate their own reckless behavior on the road. Any one of us can sit at any intersection, any day of the week and take photos of drivers of cars & taxi's doing stupid **** as well. We need to be teaching tolerance rather than laying blame on individual parties. We're all to blame, including local and provincial government for our poor infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.
  14. Our Vintage Bike Ride to Franschoek yesterday. The guys brought out the good stuff for a great ride in perfect weather. Bootleggers and Louer un Velo (new bicycle rental company in FH) were kind enough to sponsor our coffee for the day and a breakfast on the house for rider with the neatest bike of the day 🤙
  15. Stepped ferrules are common on most older bikes, your LBS should be able to assist you.
  16. Top of Devonvalley looking towards Stellenbosch / Gordons Bay... sadly the Cape is burning and you can see the smog hanging heavy in the morning air.
  17. It's the nature of the beast that is cycling, or most sports for that matter. You're going to get hurt, sooner or later... sometimes repeatedly and sometime due to nothing you did wrong but rather what the chop next to you did or the animal running across your path did. If you love the sport enough, you suck it up and move on. The 3-6 months of healing every few years is totally worth the multiple years of pure enjoyment you're going to get by riding your bike... fast 😉
  18. When your day starts like this, it can only be awesome 😁 Die Kaap bly maar lekker 🤙
  19. Certainly looks like a pursuit frame and no, that fork isn't original. Would be interesting to get Duncan's take on it.
  20. It's a quick and easy job for any mechanic and should be fairly inexpensive. The BB & headset doesn't need to be removed in this instance.
  21. Why not build the 105 groupset over to the TCR?
  22. Bottelary Hills on the MTB this morning... simply sublime 🤙
  23. Mine got broken in this morning as well 🤙
  24. Well done, that's very impressive for someone with zero frame building experience 🤙
