  1. (2B or not 2B) I guess
  2. seriously windy with a sprinkle of rain on the Tokai trails today, at one point the wind was so strong I was peddling to go downhill
  3. Was with Santam...had a bike accident claim and stolen bike claim..They paid out in full no problems. Now I'm with discovery insure and they paid out my claim after a nasty fall not only damage to bike but helmet and cycling top as well. Insure your goods to the correct values check with your broker what is covered and what isn't .Then the big thing if you put in claims every second week even the most obliging company's are going to revue your insurability.

  5. LOL Couldn't care a hoot if people saw me,CAAD4 I ride for the enjoyment
  6. Wow after 15 years of riding up the berg 3-5 times a week ,summer and winter ...I finally got myself a set of waterproof booties. Thursdays deluged soaked the berg and we have quite a few puddles and a couple of streams to cross...what a pleasure coming down with dry warm feet.
  7. Thanks...Actually been using the Hand grip exercizers and it does seem to help...I'll have to look into the Powerball.
  8. lateral epicondylitis ....Banged up my forearm and elbow on a mtnbike fall on Jan 1st 2014...suffered dull deep pain in forearm and sharp pain in the elbow...the dull pain in the forearm is brought on with workload and strangely get worse at night. Dr's diagnoses ,The dreaded Tennis Elbow, which we could soon rename" Mountain bikers elbow" I got an injection into the elbow which worked great for 3 weeks, When I started battling with grip strength I visited my GP again and this time had ex-ray's...nothing broken but probably some nerve damage .So more Anti-Inflammatories and a possible visit to the specialist if it doesn't improve. So 5 months down the road...I wear one of those elasticized arm braces when ridding ..it seems to help...My arm will ache after heavy lifting ,and it will wake me up at night if I don't sleep with it in just the right position. My grip strength has improved but it's still not 100%. so my big question who has tried acupuncture?
  9. If you find the battery pack slides down the top tube towards the end of a bumpy ride, just put a cable tie around the frame, just below the point where the BP straps wrap around the frame ...just the frame not all the way round the battery pack .
  10. Yep if you just want to top up the sealant remove the valve from the stem ,suck up the sealant in a big syringe and squirt it in..
  11. Well done..hope it dries up a little for tomorrow's stage
  12. brave man.. those rocks are pretty slick when they are dry
  13. Postponed our ride at 7.45 it looks pretty wet out there
  14. Just another thought,Besides your personal preference road or trail, I would say location,I live just below the mountain trails so I don't have to load my bike and go and find a trail. I have friends that say its to much hassle to load and drive to the trails so they ride their road bikes .
  15. Just a pic of the trees ...the hiking walking trail is further along
  16. Lets hope so... the notice posted says access to walkers up to the elephant eye and that crosses through the area around boulders track
  17. Tokai Trails..One of the last sections of pine forest between the hikers trail up to the elephants eye and the fairy garden track .They start harvesting this section of pine forest from next week so sadly this is one of my last shady rides through this section ,It will be closed to bikers and walkers during felling and then who knows how long until they allow the track builders to rebuild the path.
  18. That sucks Craig,I hope it turns up
  19. Good luck Rob ,I look forward to the daily reports
  20. Luckily I have an excellent relationship with my LBS, even though I do 95% of my own repairs and servicing they still help me out with advice ,part and spares. I take it this was a front derailleur as it isn't necessary to break the chain to exchange the rear one ....I'd go with learning to do as much as you can yourself even if you get someone to do a repair then you'll know what is BS and what is legit maintenance and replacement procedure.
  21. I have run A combination of LX and XT for years ...the LX was changed to SLX I still prefer the XT over otheres brakes having run both the old (bullet proof) and the new Lighter version. My old XT set went with the bike when it was Stolen. I have always run lx/slx cranks ,BB and front derailleur however I do prefer XT shifters ,chain, cluster and rear derailleur ...there is a definite difference in weight between the slx and Xt cluster. While you looking at components I believe the most important ,are the hubs in the wheel set
  22. The whole process is a 30 year project...yep right ,If you look at the area around the reservoir in the Silvermine reserve the vynbos established itself quite quickly once the pines were removed, However on the slopes below the gate is a different story. There is a section as an example that was cleared more than 3 years ogo and still is bare..In my opinion burning is not going to help They will have to assist propagation. Once again there will be an issue of who's responsibility that will fall under and the funds required. In the meantime we will have hotter rides in summer and wetter rides in winter.
  23. I used to use endomondo and it works great...I then got a Garmin forerunner 110 and I must say I prefer the ease of wearing a wrist mount to using a phone and +++ Plus a pleasing Garmin online logging facility that records pretty much all the information from your ride and It also links easily to record your days activity on Discovery Vitality.
  24. The catchword is weight... more expensive Less weight ,flimsier and wear quicker, Over the 15 years I've been actively mountain biking I've moved from 2x6-speed to 3x9 speed..through Raligh, Giant, Scott, trek and specialised. In my humble opinion , I think the benefits of the lighter equipment , despite quicker wear and tear definitely warrant the change. I've been using lx and xt components for years with pleasing run life. and In my experience Disk brakes are certainly less hastle than centepull or V-brakes. The two biggest improvements over those years are definitely drive train( Crank and BB) and cartridge bearings in hubs. For all purpose riding Chrome alloy frame, mid range Shimano components with cartridge bearing hubs will last pretty well.
  25. looks great ,enjoy
