  1. Once a month I have an off site meeting in Rivonia. There is a little hill - 200m long at 11% - that also has me wishing for some more gears on my SS
  2. My Route 66 weekend added about 8000ft to my total.
  3. We drove to the start area. Heard that the race start had been delayed because of muddy conditions. So we left and did a lap of the CradleListening to my components grinding themselves into destruction is not my favorite pastime
  4. Route shortened to 78 kms because of mud A different route from last year. This year 's was better Lots of rain puddles and not too much mud made the section inside Cradle Moon a bit more challenging No rain fell during my ride Still too many sections where the track looked like they had run a lawnmover over some veld Route markers and water tables were adequate . I was near the back of the field and there was still water and food at the tables 1300 m of ascent with most coming after 35kms which was made my ride harder as my bike got stuck in the big chainring for last 20 kms
  5. I see that tomorrow's start time has been moved to 7am
  6. I made the mistake of wearing my baggies without padding on day 1 and 2 last year. I won't repeat my mistake this year.
  7. We have two labs - black and chocolate - so I can see the picture very clearly.
  8. Just had major services done on 4 of our bikes plus bought a new pair of mtb shoes plus upgraded one mtb bike to 1x12 plus changed group set on my road bike to compact plus a bigger cassette. More expensive than maintaining my 4 cars.
  9. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  10. I have had zero issues with the utilities meter readings. I am planning on buying a smaller unit in one of the Balwin developments in Somerset West in a couple of months. A home from home
  11. I had a bit of rain at 6am from Westlake up to R25. Nothing going home at 16h15 from Greenside
  12. I was unhappy I discussed my unhappiness with my wife Situation got progressively worse I tolerated it for more than 10 years as I wanted to spare my kids the turmoil of a divorce until they finished school. One day a friend's parents got divorced and he was devasted (he was 45 years old). This made me realise that no matter when I got divorced my kids would be hurt and that delaying it was affecting me.
  13. When I lived in eMalahleni all the mine bakkies, OEM service bakkies and nearly every privately owned Fortuner was white. We feared all of these much more than the mini buses.
  14. My ex did not have a formal job as she was raising our kids and looking after the house. For her this meant 1. I feed , dressed our kids and took them to school everyday 2. I did their homework and projects 3. I did all the weekend activities with our kids 4. I was the primary (only breadwinner) 5. I did most of the food shopping For her part 1. Fetched kids from school (5kms round trip) 2. Maid did all cooking and cleaning 3. Gardener did the garden 4. Watched soapies most of the day 5. Drank too much at night 6 Wasted money on stupid stuff
  15. Who would have thought I would lose 7 places after a 2000m ascent ride. I am clearly outclassed on this challenge
  16. And pull your hands back towards your hips.
  17. I did Baberton mtb 77km race on Saturday. We don't have long climbs like that here so it was a shock to my system. So I rode within my comfort zone - HR average was 152 (I can still get it to 195) - and whenever it got too high I stopped for a minute or two. I never felt shattered or out of breath.
  18. I am in 11th place. Not too bad considering that I don't have any big climbs in my area. After Baberton tomorrow (2100m) I should improve my standing.
  19. Wait until your entry category is Grand Master and then we can talk about feeling old. Well maybe not
  20. I spotted a commuter in Greenstone last week on what looked like an e- trail bike with a full face helmet Cars appeared to give him lots of space
  21. My one posing at the Shell Ultra in Matlosana on New year's day.
  22. Not officially part of the challenge but did a few hill repeats on the way to work 25.8kms with 565m ascent.
  23. I add a Helly Hansen base layer and a windjammer. If I am leaving from home I will wear a pair of long finger neoprene skiing gloves I normally only carry my office keys and phone (in a waterproof pouch) Clothes and shoes are already at office and I have two laptops (one stays at home and one stays in the offce)
  24. My wife rides with me to work in the mornings then goes home so I did have another option. Normally rain is not a deterent but the lightining is - I had a near miss when playing baseball. Not an experience I would like to repeat.
