  1. Stop it. I was allowed to stroke the top tube of one of these frames on the condition that my wife was present at the time.
  2. I FLY

    2012 94.7

  3. I did my 1st commute in about 4 months yesterday and had my 1 st puncture in about a year. So my best part of today's commute will be to get home without another puncture
  4. Agreed. When I am feeling good it is useless/trivial and when I am useless it is good info.
  5. I am a numerate type. So I amuse/occupy my mind during a race by memorising the stats/profile. I can tell you where the waterpoints are, when each big climb starts and ends, metres climbed, metres left to climb , kms done, kms left, estimated time of arrival, etc. All potential useless info.
  6. We reached this stage after the 2010 race. It made my bank manager happy.
  7. I am going to get Mike to do the conversion on one of our Superlights later this year.
  8. Mike ( Mike's Bike - Greenside) has a customer who has already done this conversion to his superlight. Maybe contact Mike for the details.
  9. I am thinking of fiiting 650B wheels (and fork) to my Santa Cruz Superlight. Then we will have the full stable:- Santa Cruz Superlight with 26" wheels Santa Cruz Superlight with 650B wheels Santa Cruz Tallboy with 29" wheels Then I will be able to judge for myself.
  10. Even worse - a waveskier - I had many arguments at Dairy and Wedge (Durban) when I lived there
  11. Deleted - double post
  12. Pay cash. Replacement frequency Road bike 1999 2002 2008 MTB 2001 2007 2013? SS 2010 2012
  13. The actual cost of our stable (garages) of bikes is about a 3rd of the insured replacement value of them. I managed to find 3 real bargains via the Hub classifieds. Next year I would like to get a Santa Cruz Tallboy but want to try and fit 650B wheels to my Santa Cruz Superlight first. The cost of new Tallboy is beyond my pain threshold and as yet I have not seen any 2nd hand medium ones for sale.
  14. When I used to commute through Randburg (Jhb) some Putco buses came quite close to me. I would remember the bus's registration number and call it into the Putco Report Line number (083 919 4287) It seemed to help as the drivers started giving me more room
  15. I don't have a rigid SS but I have been using a racing ralph snakeskin 2.2 on my SS for 5 months. Most of the trials we ride are quite rocky and the tyre has coped very well from a puncture/sidewall cut point of view. I have just fitted a nobby nic snakeskin on the front as I think the racing ralph lacks grip in our conditions. I have not done a ride yet.
  16. My wife rode a MTB tandem for many years as the stoker. If you want to ask her views send me your details via PM and I will get her to call you.
  17. +1 When I am big I aspire to own a Lynskey 29er SS
  18. My polar recorded about 1000m on the 2010 route.
  19. We have entered and paid our deposit. Still lots of time to train and many races to ride before April 2013.
  20. I managed to get to my local Subaru dealership last week for a test drive. I liked the looks, performance , colour ,etc. The suspension was harder than my existing car - something I will have to get used to. I did not like the spare wheel that takes up half the boot and has no cover. I would either get a marie biscuit spare or drive without it. Dealership has no idea of pricing, launch date or availability. This is not such a big deal as I had reconciled myself to a June 2013 date.
  21. And don't forget all the awesome bikes. Including the ultimate SS - Unicycles
  22. Subaru say that the motor is mounted too low to fit the AWD system to the front wheels. I think the STI motor will only come when sales of the non turbo model start to dip. As to being a scooby driver - that only happens on weekends when I am allowed to drive the Forester. I actually come from a long history of BMW ownership - 9 since 1987 I am going to test drive the BRZ tomorrow.
  23. I have driven the Toyota GT86 - I thought that it had the identical engine as the Scooby BRZ. Anyway my Subaru dealership finally has a BRZ demo car so I will go later this week for a test drive. I have a leaning towards the BRZ but that is all theoretical until I have actually driven both. Agree on the 135 being the more powerful car but I would have to get a 2010 model to come in at the same price as a new BRZ. (I do have two kids living away from home at full time university to fund before my toys get considered)
  24. Me: Torn between Scooby BRZ and BMW 135i for the fun car We have the Scooby Forester S-Edition for the bike wagon
  25. The standard 4 - sit, stand, push, p#ke
