  1. We have been using Magicshine lights for nearly two years. All four still going strong. They have seen it all - rain, hail, heat, cold and crashes.
  2. I have also experienced this.
  3. Thanks. I was just waiting for my bank to open this morning so I could arrange for some Nam $. As for the bullets - the leading riders will pass me at about the same speed so I feel right at home.
  4. I was there on a fully paid excursion package for 18 months in the late 70's. This was in the northern regions of the country so I have never been to Swakopmund/Windhoek. Looking forward to riding/driving on gravel roads faster than the mine sweeping team could walk.
  5. We are ready to go. Plane tickets booked and paid for, team and support vehicle organised, hotel booked, leave granted. Just need swop ZARs to Nam dollars.
  6. After trashing my bike at 5 X muddy Sabie Xs I got tired of the repair bills and stopped going to this event. It is a pity as it was my first multi day event (2004) and I think the format and area are fantastic.
  7. My wife has already started designing her "racing" outfit. Me - I need to practise drinking beer for the shortcuts to be of any benefit.
  8. Thanks I have just bought a set of these as they were the only 29er tyres I could find. I am not convinced as to their sidewall strength but will fit and test.
  9. Yes. Prefer a Conti Mountain King UST 29er if X King not UST. I don't want a Race King
  10. I would also buy 2 x Conti 29er X-kings UST tyres from you.
  11. Reading this thread suddenly gave me the urge to ride this event. I even found out whether there was place for me. However there is too much to organise before Monday , plus my wife - a long distance specialist- can't get leave. I don't feel like suffering on my own with a bunch of strangers. Next year
  12. Does anyone know when the results will be finalised/announced? Are there so many appeals to be adjudicated on?
  13. +1 At R10k I think that this is an excellent bike for commuting and shorter mtb outings. They may underestimate the demand. We are going to buy two next year once we have more details on the replacement belt availability and alternative gearing options.
  14. Our one SS commuter bike is starting to wear out and rather than replace the components we were thinking of buying this raleigh.
  15. Anyone looked at the Raleigh stand? I understand that they have the XXIX SS 29er with belt drive on display.
  16. Dominator 5-Pro Mega - mtb I battle to get wide cycling shoes so I thought I would try these.
  17. My wife is at the expo all day so my plan for tomorrow is as follows:- 1. Get lift to Sandton with her in the morning. 2. Go to work in Jet Park via train 3. Catch train back to Sandton in afternoon. 4. Go to Expo 5. Get numbers 6. Buy my sidi shoes that I have been waiting for since May 7. Take her for supper 8. Get lift home after expo closes
  18. I used to be in a similar position. My wife is a climbing goddess who could stay with me on the downhills as well. My only advantage was on the technical stuff and the flat road. Stages races with her were an receipe for unhappiness. At 2008 epic she would have to wait for up to 40 minutes at the top of the long climbs for me to catch up This year I started commuting on a hilly route with a heavy SS. About 7000kms later I am 6kgs lighter, and I can stay with her on the climbs. Now stage races are awesome times together.
  19. Something along the lines that it was a very good meeting. 1.SASCOC accepted everything that CSA told them. 2.Greg was quite vague about the allegations that they cleared up 3.CSA needs to rewrite its constitution 4.Tour of SA 2012 could not be fully sponsored but watch this space in future years.
  20. I would prefer to wait for CSA to get a proper fully funded tour rather than a budget version that Greg Till suggested might be an option.
  21. Nor did you need more than one gear.
  22. These are my estimates for the YTD Car = 19 000kms Gautrain = 6500kms SS = 6500 kms MTB = 2500kms Road bike= 500kms
  23. We did consider this option But the last train leaves ORT at same time her plane is scheduled to land.
  24. My wife is only landing at ORT at 20h30 so we will have to miss this one
