  1. dont be fooled by the older age groupers... they get faster as the okes have more time to train with kids older and financial situations stable... just check the results the 45-49 ers are faster than the 40-44... local omie here gave me thorough beating when i was in Better condition running 35 min or less for 10km. DUATHLON is brutal on the LEGS.. you have to be strong/tough to want to go far
  2. that be rohan kennedy... he is slightly better than the usual 40-44 age group qualifier for duathlon worlds
  3. oh the question was how much training? if not a good runner you will have to run daily... with a long run over the weekend of 15km and bike 3-4 times a week on top of that. i would say a good runner in your age group is defined by somebody running 36-40 minutes for a 10km easily of the cuff
  4. OK... i should qualify to answer this? i won 2010 long distance duathlon champs... and have qualified twice to represent RSA... i did decline both. Duathlon is a RUNNERS speciality. looking at this years results there were not a lot of okes in your age group. i was not there this year but i have battled quite a few times with the gent that came second... he is 40-44 age groups and gave the Elites a GOOOd run for their money. and he is a damn good cyclist. if you can run between 35-38 min for the 10km first run and have a bike that you average 35km/h for 40km get of that and run a 22min 5km you stand a chance , to qualify. now the selection criteria is first 6 in age group or within 10 % of your age group winner. in your case the age group winner was 2nd overall and first age grouper so you had to finish within 11 minutes of 1:54... hehehe good luck doing that. if you do a sub 2 you are in the top 10 overall in south africa if you do 2;05 you are within top 20 overall in SA. if you run 38 Transition 2 min ride 1:10 (that is FAST top 30 riders average) transition 2 min and run 22 you will finish in 2:14 eish..
  5. one vehicle is more than enough for the terra firma. just make sure the wife is trained in putting bikes on and off. let her drop you off at the start and GO. the sand is granular... i am a wuuuss i g with the shoes but MANY go barefoot
  6. OH i am such a romantic.... voted! now dont get her pregnant on her break... ooops did i just say that
  7. By now most of you will be aware of the unrest that is plaguing the area in and around Swellendam, Ashton and Robertson. These areas all form part of the Coronation Double Century route. We are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis with both the Provincial and Local authorities. While it is extremely difficult for us to predict what will happen over the next few days, we are proceeding with our plans for the race as scheduled. Should the unrest continue, a decision on the continuation of the event will be made in the latter half of next week. Our most important priority is the safety and wellbeing of our participants, backup crew and spectators. Any decision will be taken together with the relevant authorities concerned and with the aforementioned in mind. We would love to be able to assure you that the event will continue but we must be cognisant of all that is happening around us and elements over which we have no control. We remain optimistic that the situation will stabilise and that we will be welcoming you all to Swellendam next week. Yours in Safe Cycling The Coronation Double Century Organising Team
  8. personally woul dlike to see burry NOT race the EPIC and actually focus on some speed so he can DOMINATe at the world cup level the way he should ! i dont for one second believe KE did not know DG was , if they were sooooo close as they were... not a chance!
  9. Gps is supposed to be accurate than a manual speedo meter , combine that with the GSC10 speed sensor you have exact distance/speed measures. concerning the footpod that is only for foot strike rate... it acts like a pedometer and wont measure snot on a riding shoe. is pretty useless with a gps watch unless you go run on a treadmill
  10. was thinking the same... prostester were throwing bricks at vehicles in Grabouw today. Still excited though
  11. the whole idea of sitting as far forward on the saddle as possible is to "open" your hip angle , so yes your upper body and neck is going to hurt as it now shares your weight , opening the hip angle utilizes bigger muscle groups to save you for the run.
  12. wiTH THE price of iphone protectors these days maybe you get the services of a protector... the chinese knock offs should be cool... you get a little ninja riding behind you ready to kick assailant in the peanuts and then chase him down to get back your iphone
  13. Did Ulrich ever test positive to banned substances other than recreational drugs? remember Jens was a East German... mayber he was born in a Vile of EPO? who knows... i wonder if his wife sends him back to race? just to get him out the house?
  14. I agree with the 310xt! I use it for duathlons and love the multisport option to include transitions. Also used it for Cape pioneer trek and it lasted 4 days without charging. Also ant+ makes merging with speed sensors and power meters a breeze. I would any day go with the 910 being an upgrade and less bulky. Another feature of the harming I enjoyed was the lap vibration notifier , so every km it will vibrate or according to time or other distances. I had it setup for doing intervals an km repeats
  15. OH go squeak somewhere else... anti consumerist... lol
  16. i had two..... loved it. riding 29er hardtail now. just funds keeping me from still riding it. i "tried the 29er" and would have to sell everything to go back to 650. would love to build a Rocky mountain dually . even a Spez Epic 26er would be an awesome conversion.
  17. seems like stuuuuupid question but have you updated the apps since going io6
  18. TO TELL THE TRUTH I AM GUTTED.... i have been a pro lance all this time... like Phil Ligget i chose to believe the Texan , but now the evidence is overwhelming. i Bought Every Lance book! the Comeback 2 etc... i have livestrong oakleys and mellow johnny's cycling shirts. what i do have to add from reading his first book i never liked his Character , his arrogance (confidence) and it was quite dissapointing. maybe i am too sensitive. The last book i read i dicovered how much his step dad did for him and his mom before eventually cheating on her. he financed his early sporting career and schoooling. but lance barely mentioned this just claiming his mom raised him by herself. i am gutted. he was a hero to me , and tried to believe the better. but hey.... the nay Sayers and the doubters seems to have been right ALL along. i find it hard to understand how he can stay so self righteous.

  20. does a vibrating rotor not make a sound?
  21. I SALUTE YOU cROW... you are a true lover of cycles... irrespective of circumference , as long as it rolls ! viva velo
  22. does not have to be from a fall or pedal torque. if you ride and botton of pedal hits a rock while pedaling or going through rock garden it is very easy. rember with some form of speed and your weight on the bike , the momentum you create with that combination can easily bend and axle
  23. 082 wtf...you want// .....pay us and bugger off
  24. are we really having this discussion?
  25. as for the bike those seat stays look an awefull lot like the sir fellow bikes
