I wonder if Sram would be interested in bringing Stages in-house and integrating into a new line. The electrical components are coming in leaps and bounds. LOOK have invested as they see the Chinese coming hard from a price point, so it’s will be a price war with established companies versus new kids. South Africa is a small market so tend to have limited supply and demand, so we do get milked but online has reshaped the consumers shopping habits. I see the LBS taking hard knocks to keep up with tech trends.

With where Quarq is I highly doubt that will happpen

Low Balling is a daily trend from some of the guys on the hub.

It’s probably one thing if a hubber makes a low ball offer to a fellow hubber. But there are so many Dealers on the hub nowadays and they all low ball coz this is where they buy and sell 90% of the time.

I had a dealer offer me less than half the price on one of my bikes, on the 3rd offer he made over the weeks I told him not to insult me.  Never heard of him again.  Sad thing is, they offer these low prices and next day the bike is on the Hub again for dubble the price.

Maybe there should be a specific section only for Dealers or so called Traders on the Hub.  Almost like Auto Trader.  Maybe there is something we can do to easier Identify dealers on the hub for the normal Hubber and Joe Soap 🧼 This will make the negotiations or dealings a lot more transparent for everybody from the start.  Maybe a set monthly or yearly fee for the guys that wheel and deal on the hub just like on Auto Trader🚗 for vehicles.  It’s one thing if you have a shopfront or store and you buying and selling new and used stuff, these guys have overheads and bills to pay, these are also the guys that will be willing to pay a fee.  But every Tom, Dick and Harry nowadays think they can buy and sell bicycles etc out of their garages or from their homes.  They have zero overheads, these guys are the LOW BALL CUM LAUDE🤣

Maybe the Bikehub can look into this for the future.

Its called business accounts and its already a thing

    Check post count, you're welcome.

Rouxtjie rule is impractical and any amount is also grey

Sure its hard to expect everyone to regularly post but even a certain someone has 54 forum posts under their belt

    I don't get the animosity...
If I (Pietie Nobody) offers 30% of asking - sure, that may be considered low-ball.
But if a recognised Intermediary* does so, that is the price to pay for * --> it is your choice on whether that is a fair price for *, for you.

    *
    - An intermediary provides liquidity - you get your money early/immediately, without the risk of the item continuing to taking up space in your Pain Cave.
    - An intermediary takes away the risk associated with a difficult buyer or underlying issue, which you were unaware of.

Problem is when that intermediary relists for 400% the original price

And trust me its happens enough that this stigma exists

When does a "noname naked carbon handlebar" become legit though?

There's a Trifox RHB300 MTB handlebar on Temu for R665, but Trifox somehow has a South African website that has the same bar for R1150 (out of stock but marked down from R1350), and Bike Addict has the bar for R960 (down from R1200).

So given that Trifox has a SA website, and is sold by Bike Addict, are they out of the suspect "noname" category even though there's 10 other identical looking handlebars on Temu with random names that look "dodge"?

Given that they have the same noname spark copy frames available on their website along with a very nice "LOOK" frame on the homepage I'll lump them in with the noname questionable BS

It’s what I’ve always thought when considering Chinese frames, winspace, elves and whatnot, you rolling a dice at whether you’ll receive a banging frame for the money or lengthy and nightmare warranty claims or even worse, something dangerous.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

See something like a steel wanabee spd cleat ? Sure I'll use that.

That clamp that's china bs oilslick , yup I'll use that.

Some noname naked carbon handlebar ? Narafuk is that coming near my bike

  7. Just a note for some out there.

Contact points like cranks pedals stems bars etc I would be cautious.

I have a friend that had to take 1.5 years off after messing his ankle up proper when his raceface crank came apart. Warranty sorted but his injury was severe.

China quality is not as bad as people make it to be ( me included) bur there's some very obvious and serious flaws on these millions of spark copies vs. a proper Scott frame

And don't come at me with that its all made in the same factory, you know its not and its not the same quality.

Does anyone have the contact details for the guys who did the name stickers for frames and helmets with the SA flag and also emergency contact details?

Contact Nic from balistic bike armor if you can't find someone locally

I dont buy that they are made for TREK - If that be the case you would only be able to get them from a TREK store - You can get them through any bike shop that stocks Enduro bearings

they are NOT made by trek.

They are by ENDURO FOR TREK i.e. any bike shop who buys from rush can get them.

You got to be careful with the 3801 2RS bearing dimensions

I found a few suppliers that were much cheaper than 299 - But on closer inspection they were 7.0mm width

The only manufacturer i could find that were 8.0mm were Enduro and i think this is where the MAX wording comes in. I also asked a mate who works at bearing Man to try find them - Also came back and said only place is Enduro bearings.

I didnt read your article, but i also dont buy the whole quality thing - Bearings are desigend for much higher performance than they experience on a MTB suspension enviroment - Even the cheapest bearings will last as long as the most expensive ones - Bearing failure on MTBing is from moisture and dirt which will kill any bearing irrespective of the quality.

Just a note on this , years ago I had to replace 6903's in a front hub.

The previous chinese ones lasted barely a year.

Bit hard on a set of NTN bearings , I roughly remember nearly R150 each

Couple of years on I sold those wheels with those bearings still in there , so even if its just down to betters seals I ill always but the best possible bearing I can ( and I don't include Enduro in that , their bearings are mediocre at best )

That's because its a Trek bearing made by Enduro

Its doesn't appear on any other frame that I'm aware of other than Treks , you are right you can find them cheap but then its the 7m one not the double row 11 or 12mm one

and yet somethings are not worth the frustration and its easier to pay the mechanic to sort it out.

Did a sealant topup yesterday. I've been putting it off because my wheel and tyre combo are a PIA. Always one tyre that wont seat.

I thought I was in luck, my neighbour started his compressor up before I started, I asked if I could come and use it and was given the thumbs up.

Rear wheel. 10 minutes start to finish, no issues.

Front wheel, as I let the air out is unseated. I topped up, then decided I was going to try the old tube over the tyre to hold it under pressure trick. Consequently lost half the sealant out the tyre.

Went next door, compressor was not helping, we bumped the compressor up to 10bar, still no luck.

Jumped in the car, headed to the nearest petrol station. Tried a few times, lost more sealant, still not seating.

So I headed home, drained what sealant was left and decided to put everything in the car and take it to the LBS this morning. I'll pay their R200 and let them deal with it.

Years of experience tell me another layer of rim tape here would've saved you.
