  1. Then the recommendation of Stans is wrong as well as two very good LBS`s. I clearly stated this to be a guideline not gospel. Go and convert al cheapo non-UST non-TR rims to tubeless without rim strip at your own peril.
  2. Not gospel just a guideline. I have seen on more than one occasion non-UST/TR rims holding air fine but burps out on the trail where things get rough. This guideline does not have to be followed but be sure to test the setup properly on rough terrain. For me the best option is to put money down on proper tubeless ready wheels and tyres, UST is too heavy in 29er format and tubeless ready works great.
  3. How about this: http://media.gtbicycles.com/media/catalog/product/cache/5/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/g/1/g14_650u_650_blk_1.png
  4. But it`s been won on duallies for the past few years? I think comfort is more important in a race like the Epic. It can be done on hardtail just fine, but for me I think I will enjoy the event more on a good 29er dually, and also be faster.
  5. Tubeless ready rim: needs rim TAPE Non-tubeless ready, non-UST rim: needs rim TAPE and rim STRIP UST rim: needs no rim TAPE or rim STRIP

  8. My definition of a tubeless ready rim is a rim that does not need the rim strips in order to work tubeless.
  9. This is why I love the hub, people misunderstanding and then being rude. Ok I did use the incorrect term "rim tape" instead of "rim strip". I wrongly assumed people will understand what I mean. The correct term is rim strip, not rim tape. Look closely at this pic: http://www.notubes.com/Assets/ProductImages/Tubeless_Kit2.jpg See those 2 black things with the valves on. These are rim strips and only needed for rims which are not tubeless ready. These need to be replaced every 6 months or so. It adds weight and cost.
  10. What about training for MTB? I assume the IDT will be much better for MTB than rollers because of the higher resistance.
  11. Yeah, the drivetrain (besides the chain) should last about 3 chains. Therefor 3 chains should be rotated regularly to get the most of your drivetrain. The chain wears out about 3x faster than the rest, and a worn chain accelerates the wear on the rest. So for example, instead of replacing the drivetrain every year, you could replace the drivetrain every 3 years if you rotate 3 chains regularly.
  12. I think that any good LBS will be able to do this. The Stans hubs are easy to service. I think it should only be the bearings that needs replacing and bearings are easy to get. My LBS serviced my Stans hubs.
  13. I would not recommend the tubeless conversion with non-tubeless ready rims. Besides the extra weight you will need to replace the rim-tape about every six months and this money is much better spent on getting proper wheels like Stans or American Classic which will not need rip tape at all and works perfectly with tubeless ready tires and saves some weight too.
  14. Just be careful not to get any water on your chain at the water table, cause it will rinse the Squirt off. I have found the ultimate chain cleaning method - put Squirt on the chain and ride through some wet fynbos - nothing cleans your chain better than this.
  15. But you were Wyatts slipstream all the way? And we all know that Wyatt dude can ride a bike dat dit poep!
  16. I am very privileged to be able to ride Lourensford every weekend. It is just magnificent mtb riding, I wish I had taken some pics today, but here are some I got off the net: http://www.magicmountainprod.com/gallery/Lourensford.jpg http://www.entries.energyevents.co.za/uploaded_images/events/med_8dqlLKN.jpg http://www.capetownmagazine.com//media_lib/r2/220257af21ec0c95ac7d0690ea7c99af.img.jpg
  17. And moving back on the saddle will be gay. Is this saddle supposed to be used by heterosexual men? I think not.

    Rugby...

A half a gap anywhere but inside the Province 22 with Aplon in possesion and it`s all over. The Curry Cup will stay where it belongs.
  19. How exactly did the fall happen that both soles got ripped like that? Did you get detached from the bike and the cleats stayed in the pedals and ripped off the soles? Or did you land on your feet on rocks at speed? The details of the fall will indicate if it is a faulty product or not.
  21. I hope he does the Epic also, there is a big hole in SA MTBiking after Burry, but I understand that the Tour is much bigger and it will be great to see him in the Tour again. It really looked like he was not going to come back but here he is now out riding the Cape Pioneer Trek.
  22. Thanks to all here helping building trails in Eden it is a great place to ride.
  23. ONE OF MY PET HATES WHEN PEOPLE TAKE A PERFECTLY FUN TRAIL AND REMOVE THE OBSTACLES SO THAT THE TEA PARTY ON BICYCLES CAN ALSO PEDAL ALL THE WAY THROUGH. LEAVE THOSE PERFECT TRAILS BE!
  24. Why does not having a noob bag cause punctures?
