  1. If you like Alex then Joshua Wiessman would probably be right up your alley. He makes really cool food and has very good production of his vids.
  2. Did you design the end cap yourself? Its a cool idea.
  3. I have definitely noticed the issues with insulation on a lot of older houses. Nothing between the outside air and inside other than some floor boards. DId you insulate when you took the walls off in the kitchen? I seem to recall that you did. I love the old rough sawn native beams used in framing from the old houses, amazing to see how 100+ year old untreated native timber holds up to the elements.
  4. I was pretty surprised at how old some of the homes are, they were built well though. He has a great channel, I love how easy some of the places in NZ are for getting stock, drive through hardware stores are awesome!
  5. I watch a lot of Scott Brown carpentry on Youtube, he builds in NZ. You can tell why that is with older houses when they get into the foundations. Fortunately the codes are a lot stricter these days so its probably less of an issue on newer builds.
  6. Oooh Wera! Im a big fan of their tools. I didnt even know they made torque wrenches but I think I need one now.
  7. I torque bolts AvE style by grunting a bit and then making a click sound afterwards... it never works out the way I planned though.
  8. I have seen mr Carrera use Rosewood for simple stop blocks on a drill press fence, he doesnt joke around Im sure it will only be used for tasks that arent going to cause damage, its just way too nice for general purpose stuff.
  9. Time to start avoiding the cesspit that is mybb for a while. You seem to have a fun time getting some of the trolls worked up on that side
  10. Wouldnt it be strong enough if the coach bolts were in the center of each stud? The studs are oriented in a way that there would be quite a lot of thread depth in each one. I dont know too much about the loadbearing capacities of wooden structures, but the Americans I watch on Youtube seem to mount some pretty heavy items if they are directly into studs.
  11. Forums will change over time, that is a given. If you look at SA's biggest forum - Mybroadband, the name says everything, it was started around broadband issues and Telkom's monopoly. These days broadband is in a much better situation and the forum has moved on to more of a general discussions type forum. Its a big business and it attracts a number of users. Sure its not the most friendly place to be anymore, the philosophical discussions and political threads are a dogshow, but its a site driven by "off topic" discussions. Any site with a limited audience that eliminates threads which arent related to its core purpose is going to die eventually. SA is very much a limited audience and while there are international visitors to the site, they are seldom long term users unless they are ex-saffas. TLDR; The forums will dwindle to a point where it isnt feasible anymore if off topic discussions are removed.
  12. My brother in law has quite a simple but strong solution for these situations. He uses really long coach bolts screwed into the wall, you would only need to do one side, they are strong. Next he cuts the bolt head off with an angle grinder which just leaves the threaded bar sticking out. Hold up the edge of the shelf and mark the centers of the bolts. Drill slightly oversized holes and jam some construction adhesive in them. Push the shelf on and its done. Its surprising how strong they are, none of his shelves he did have sagged at all.
  13. I was in an art supply store a few weeks ago and saw what they were charging for them, its absolutely crazy. The guys at magnet store are way cheaper and have super fast turnaround times.
  14. Surprisingly they arent too bad, which is just weird for SA! I have bought a few times from these guys in the past: https://magnetstore.co.za/ (for any SA people who want some) I bought a few block shaped ones for this exact project about 2 years ago, but since I havent actually built the kitchen yet Im not sure where to temporarily mount it.
  15. That looks really neat, great job! How do the devices get powered? There is a lot of resistive load in there so are there multiple feeds that they plug in or are the able to power off a single lead?
  16. Those router guides are awesome, I have a bunch in different sizes and they are so easy to use. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2404850 Those sanding sticks are great for getting in tight spaces. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4004975/ Those hanger dots are great for hanging tools etc https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1562501 Star knobs! I use these a lot on jigs and for t-track.
  17. Ender 3 v2 is a great printer, I have the Ender 5 with silent driver board. Any of the Creality printers is a good idea, there is a massive community and most upgrades are aimed at those printers. I have printed a ton of workshop stuff, from Marius Hornberger's angle grinder sanders to adapters for my cyclone to fit each tool. 3D printers are very useful things and not very expensive.
  18. Oxalic acid is a bit of a con in SA, Wooddoc has it in large plastic cans with a tiny little bag of the stuff. Its much cheaper to just buy it from a chemical supplier and use it like that. I have had limited success with treating Garapa decking though so Im not sure how effective it is on wood with high oil content.
  19. If you have access to a 3D printer then these work a treat. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2438336 I have printed a bunch in different sizes and it should still give a consistent result on the curved edge.
  20. Its something I refer to as "warm brown" Its warm and its brown, but it sure as heck isnt coffee
  21. I love SB's channel, I would absolutely have asked him for a quote if I was in Auckland.
  22. That is some pretty respectable pain tolerance you have! Great looking ink too.
  23. Im very excited to see the end result, its going to be an amazing bench.
  24. At the current price point vs features this watch doesnt make much sense. Any of the longer established players are a better option until the product matures.
  25. Vegan cheese is nasty stuff. I wouldnt recommend trying it "raw" its not completely disgusting when its melted but I will still rather avoid it.
