  1. Does anyone know where to get "halflinks"? This assists in getting the chain just that much tighter or looser so no need for tensioner. Also have a look here http://www.trickstuff.de/index.php?p=d116en1
  2. 1. The chainring bolts are too long when removing the outer ring - solution: the spacers from a road 42 chainring work perfectly. Got some chainring bolts from CRC for this. Now singlespeed.co.za sells them. 2. Chain tension needs to be super tight, else slipage occurs (sorry Eldron, I bought a tensioner) I managed to get rid of my tensioner as the 32x16 makes my stretched old chain fit perfectly 3. Deraileurs, cassettes and other gearing parephenalia weigh a lot... You also hunt for them in the beginning and then the ride becomes more enjoyable as you dont bother with gears. This will translate into pushing harder on the hills as you dont bother with gears until you really need too.
  3. Sorry, It a uvex, same make as mine. http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Cycling-helmet-shoes-W0QQAdIdZ232726967
  4. Oops, I better mention that this on is my hardtail commuting bike. I do ride rough and go from jumping onto/off pavements to sandy paths. I will need to take it to tokai for a better test. 2 Bar or so
  5. I dunno which is best but i used MAXXIS advantage front and MAXXIS crossmark back. To be honest I think the age or usage (how many times the tyre has been removed and put back on the rim) will determine how well it works. I was told to look at the bead and see if there is a line from when the tyre is manufactured. This line on the bead will let air escape as it makes a tiny gap between rubber and rim but this is probably for the very cheap tyres.
  6. There is rudy for sale on gumtree. Brand new but black. I am looking for a brightly colourd helmet so i can be seen.
  7. I have done all of the above. UST tyre on UST rims, No problem, just inflate with floor pump. Bontrager on Shimano MT15 (non-tubeless rim), Used a bom and it pumped up. Very liitle air loss. Wire bead on non-tubeless rim conversion. Dont run the tires soft but works fine so far. Was a bit harder to pump up in the beginning. Next I want to try doing my trail bike with SPANK rims. I see CRC sell a trail/freeride specific rim strip.

    Bosal Bike racks

https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/72041-bosal-bike-racks/page__p__1055629__hl__bosal__fromsearch__1#entry1055629 All I know is that it is more versatile than the Holdfast but cannot comment on the others. I have 4 bikes and they each fit differently and I also need to get the GF's bike on so I can change things to make it fit. The straps do take a bit of getting used to and my 2.3 WTB fit fine. I do know that I can lock both my bikes using the locks on the rack. With some of my mates with thule they have to change the knobs to the end bike so they can lock it.

    Bosal Bike racks

As above, I use one. Still think its fantstic. Sits on my car 90% of the time and I take it off for car washes now and then. I took some pics and put them on one of the other posts so just do a search.
  10. Why was Ckain-L not in the TREAD lube shootout? That would have been a good comparison.
  11. And you missed a perfect opportunity to punt what your club name stands for and means. East Side Manne Eat Raw Ostrich. Let us know, seeing as you have the gift of giving.
  12. Waahaa you bunch of pansie roadies. "Meet me...." I just googled emsro or whatever and they are gift givers http://www.giftofthegivers.org/latest-news/05-07-09-esmero-cycling-club-joins-joburg-winter-warmer-drive.html Firstly, Get a name that means something. Alot of effort here to defend something that not even google has a direct link to. http://www.google.co.za/#q=ESMERO&hl=en&source=lnt&tbs=ctr:countryZA&cr=countryZA&sa=X&ei=PVWbTMf3N4veOMX0rY0P&ved=0CAcQpwU&fp=72d4d1ece95c6006 Secondly, good on you for trying to bring culprits to book and making a concerned cyclist feel like he has a say (although he didnt say much, does enron or whatever have a rival cycling club?) Thirdly, Complaining about roadies misbehaving is a waste of time. They "own" the road from the time they put their bum in the saddle and it seems to be considered cool to jump robots and act like a turd. Fourthly, (ignore point 3 above) In every sport/club there is the guy who breaks the rules. The few ruining it for the many. Just look at how many trails are illegally ridden and farmers get gatvol. Lastly, How do we even know they were official club members, especially if no evidence is provided. While being nearly taken out by car doors, cars turning early, pedestrians crossing roads without loking on my commutes I have learnt to count to ten and say "That wont bother me in a month so dont let it bother me now" You all have a great weekend now and obey the rules.
  13. The guys from work are doing it daily. Cant comment on progress but will do a recce this week.

    Slime

Okay...my 2c worth. I ran tubes for a long time. Reason: Tires cheaper and couldnt afford conversion. I used slimed (green shrek piss) in the beginning they were fine but as time went on i found out 2 things about slime. They are temporary fixes to get you home or end of race. you will need to be carefull after a thorny ride or if you see green every where. 2, they "let go" when i hit a serious patch of water. the slime became liquid again and wouldnt seal after that. I then went and got "OKO". put this inside the standard presta valve tube. They had over 20 sealed punctures in each tube. I cut the tube open and the oko was still in its jello form. Ghetto: Yes they are great but when you need to change your tyre or add sealant you will need to redo the conversion which means 2 new tubes. I eventually saved enough money to get tubeless wheels/tires and now the issue is what sealant to use. experimenting with a few but so far the blue http://www.noflats.co.za/ has done the job. Life is alot easier if you have schraeder valved tube/rims
  17. What vehicle is it? Montagu gardens supa quick was much cheaper than Cape Towbars
  18. What sort of clues? We cycle on the cycle path and then past the harbour and then on the outbound side of the feeway, under the bridge past the bergies. Cant really give any landmarks but if you want to join us for a slow ride in then make sure you gotpuncture protection as they have mowed the grass again and thrown thorns everywhere.
  19. All those coming from Tableview, Meet at Sunset beach Petrol station at 6:30AM or Woodbridge Island bridge at 6:47AM (I dont really know how long it takes. To the organisers, Please could we enforce the helmet rule. Makes me think twice about the reason for doing this when we want people to notice us and we arent obeying the rules.
  20. I read that you can use silicone to try patch up minor cuts and chips in your tyre. I know all to well that it is possible to pump with a foot pump, but you need about 40 pumps per tyre. My first experience with XT wheels were put tire on and inflate. No issues. Then it went downhill when i tried other tubeless setups. Eventually used bombs for initial seating then could pump with foot pump. Nice write up.
  21. Another thing that has not been mentioned is the little strap that accommodates a light to be attached. This is negated by some of the rain covers but you cant have everything i guess.
  22. A: These tubes are no good. For starters there is no centre line. The tube connects and has a ring. I pumped one up to see if the rubber would stretch and ieft it next to my desk at work. It exploded and caused a bit of a scene. I have just managed to get te tyre pumped up. I now have to get sealant inside. B: Ghetto seem simple enough with the right tube. I will try a 24" seing as i only have one wheel tubeless now. C: my fingers are sore from rubber.
  23. All of the above. I will work on some of my steeds but sometimes you need special tools that will only be used once (Headsets, facing tools). I have learnt a lot and this has helped me with the ability to purchase parts better and offer advice to other riders. I use Williams in Somerset west. Its far from the CBD but when you get your bike back he will tell you stuff about your steed you didnt know yourself. I was riding a frame for a loong time and he was the only one that picked up the crack. I wanted to buy some rotors and when he looked at my current rotors told me it was a waste as they were in good nick still (gotta love shimano) Not just a quick sale but great advice too. Only negative about going to Williams is that other people are there so you cant have him all to yourself to chat. He is passionate about Bicycles and people. My next favorite is BMC for great prices and quick fixes. I just dont like their location.

    BRT take 2

Fair is Fair and if I have no business in the harbour then I shouldnt be there so if they want me not to ride then I have to get another route. The trucks are quite dangerous so this could also be the reasoning behind their approach. I would love to spend a Sunday with a port maintenance team and clean up the road for cyclists. The smell some times makes me GAG. I just wonder what will happen to Panama Jacks.
