  1. I am very disappointed in your earlier review of the unboxing, setting up and test driving of you Core. You singularly failed to mention that none of the supplied kettle cords is fitted with a usable plug. In the absence of a suitable adapter I was stymied before I could even boot it up. Do better next time,
  2. My box was delivered and unpacked over the weekend. I'm setting it up today. I'm sure it has been covered, but is it feasible to ride on a 1x MTB with 32 tooth chainring? Can the Core compensate if I need to do high torque work?
  3. Will sale stuff be available in Northcliff ? I'm going in to get a mask or two and may shop for more
  4. I have started using this again after having crashed and trashed a Niner RLT steel and both have some advantages over the other. The level top tube of a gravel bike gives more space for a frame bag and it had more mounting points for water bottles on the front fork and pannier mounting points on the rear. The relaxed position and being able to get in the drops when into a headwind was useful. The MTB was just more comfortable and the extra gearing was critical when carrying weight up stuff like Swartberg or Rooiberg. I missed that in the Drakensberg. The front suspension and 2.1 tyres made rutted or corrugated descents much easier after a long day on the bike. Carrying capacity is less and getting aero is hard. I dunno what is best.
  5. Yip, weather was too dodgy to cycle safely in, but this idiot decided to try and sneak through under the cloud with his girlfriend and her two small children in an underpowered plane because "once you are over the Swartberg, the weather should be fine all the way home".
  6. Idioot
  7. Ah, but a kg or three can surely not be detected but may make a difference on a hilly route. Will check out weight doping...
  8. I am not on Zwift, so am ignorant of how it governs racing. What parameters do you have to enter for Zwift to calculate your speed, and how is this monitored to ensure you are racing fairly ?
  9. On the morning of new years day 2008, I was on my mountain bike, planning to cycle over the Swartberg pass. My wife following in the car to Prince Albert. As I approached the pass, I decided that the visibility was so poor that I could not be certain approaching traffic would be able to see me through the mist. Whilst packing my bike onto the car, I heard a plane overhead and 25 minutes later came across this : http://caa.co.za/Accidents%20and%20Incidents%20Reports/8416.pdf There had been 2 young girls onboard..... A sight not easily forgotten
  10. I guess it is about time the spinning out vs. climbing performance issue is addressed. Maybe instead of following the hub debates on whether to run a 32 or 36 chain ring, someone will come up with a revolutionary concept of having TWO chain rings - a big one for top end and a small one for climbing - and some way of pushing a lever to move your chain between the two. Just think, you can have a 38-11 or a 26-34 at the press of a button. Maybe the tech to make this happen doesn't exist yet, but one day..... we can dream.
  11. Now this is what a first post should look like. Well done Sir !
  12. And you think it is a coincidence or an oversight...…..
  13. And that was before I came off....
  14. SxSE Edit: credit to Kim Ludbrook for his stunning photo.
  15. Mine. Bornmann pulled two spokes clean through a new Enve rim - I subsequently discovered he didn't believe in using a strain gauge. The wheel was egg-shaped (IIRC the tension on some of the remaining spokes was 3 times the recommended tension) and the rim was stuffed. The Sherriff rebuilt it after I had the rim repaired but the damage was effectively irrecoverable. Bornmann refused to accept any responsibility, blamed it on a "poorly designed rim" and had the audacity to demand I pay him for the spokes he supplied. I told him to go fark himself. JB was an opinionated ex-IT techie without any engineering skills but a unshakable belief in his own omnipotence. Whenever I recall WB Yeats' line "The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity." I think of Bornman. He is not missed. edit: Removed my real opinion of the charlatan...
  16. Hey, apply some common decency. If you are going to post stuff like that have the sense to give a NSFW warning......
  17. I raise my cap to the changeroom, I have a half century. 50 on the dot. Time to iron those ou-man stripes into my shirt.
  18. That is not an issue for me. I wear my tinfoil hat under my helmet....
  19. Today we celebrate 5 weeks of isolation. I have been at home for 35 days, isolated, I do 50 km a day in spinning. I am not eating meat, dairy or fat. Like lots of fresh vegetables and simple homemade dishes every day. The change has been fantastic! I feel great! Zero alcohol! A healthy, gluten-free, sugar-free diet I exercise at home for 1 or 2 hours every day! I have already lost 5 kilos and I have gained muscle mass. I feel agile, fresh, I sleep 8 hours a day, my elasticity has improved. I read an average of 1 book weekly, I am taking 2 online courses and I plan to get certified in 1 week. I do yoga and I have greatly improved my concentration. I have no idea who wrote this, but I'm so proud of him that I decided to copy and paste!
  20. In respect of whom are you paying maintenance, your ex or a minor child ?
  21. Thanks, I'll give them a shout.
  22. I joined the Hub in 2004 and this is quite possibly the most profound post in 16 years. It could not have summed up our situation and my thoughts better. Thank you, and good luck.
  23. Nope, no news I'm afraid.
