    The Munga 2020

For those of us who are not dedicated followers of endurance sports/cycling, who is Hansie Joubert ? Anyone to enlighten us ?

    The Munga 2020

I went up it during a Trans Karoo and my only thought sukkling up it was that I'd rather be going up than down....
  3. Ja, but my lighty is going to look stupid later on in his lifetime when he packs down at lock for the Stormers on a bike without pedals....
  4. And new DD cups for the missus...... .

Ja, but I think that Jewbacca has misled you about the quality of the Rohloff maintenance service. Nobody has ever had cause to test it. This thing is the bastard child of a Patek Philippe and a T-34 tank. Indestructible and runs like a Swiss watch No Rohloff hub has ever been close to the point where it requires a service other than to turn the cog around and wear the other side of the tooth down. It could have taken Neil Armstrong to the moon if needed.

I couldn't ride 10km, much less a 1000km on a setup like that. Bumping my knee on the yellow plastic bag would irritate me no end. ps. Whose bike is that ? Benky ?
  7. Genuine question. Why not go with a narrowish set of 29" wheels like these: Mavic Crossmax XL NON Boost | Bike Hub Or these: ZTR Arch Ex with Hope Hubs | Bike Hub
  8. A wonderful trip and a well told story. Just one correction. This is what a Ranger looks like :
  9. This is so true. My SS gearing recognises that I mostly use it on the Spruit where the climbs are short and long stretches are fast, (but I must still get home) so I am running 34x17 at the moment. The is a climb up the back of Northcliff, 2.6km at an average grade of 6.1% with a few stretches between 13% - 14% and peaking at 17%. My (MTB) PB is on the SS as you just HAVE to get out of the saddle and stay on top of the gear. It pushes the heart rate, but it is fast..
  10. Or, like someone in my house, leukaemia. He must take it easy as you say, but also just go and see a f.....ing doctor before it is too late.
  11. Three minutes which could save your life: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0-93WIQ_zsk
  12. Off topic question: Do I misunderstand TSS ? As I have the definition, a TSS of 100 is 1 hour at FTP, so a weekly TSS of 1.7k is either 17hours at FTP or 34 hours at 50% thereof. Either way, not "normal training values" for a person in his first year of structured training.
  13. It may be overtraining, or something very different and much worse. Go and see your GP let them do bloods, a full examination and get a proper diagnosis.
  14. Stans Sealant filler kit: R169 (or thereabouts at Cycle Lab) A 150ml syringe (R18) and a 15cm length of flexible tubing....
  15. What exactly (precisely) does that little springy thing do ? I seem to have lost one. Will my wheel fall off, or will I fall off ? Until I can get two, which side should I put the one I have on to stop a catastrophe, the lever side or the other side ?
  16. Just putting this out there : https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/440519/colnago-art-decor-superissimo?referrer=homepage
  17. As you are bored with the Cradle, look south. Suikerbosrand is close by and infinitely better than the Cradle for a road bike ride. Challenging, scenic, safe and quiet (possibly too quiet for some). It is a one-way loop with a 30km speed limit. You can do 50km and not see a car. Riding there from Jo'burg is also quite easy (and safe) if you want a longer ride. Riding home afterwards is an entirely different kettle of fish though.
  18. Can I cut and paste your post as it describes my situation perfectly? Ironically, during the full lockdown in April, I did my best training ever but it has been steadily downhill since.
  19. If this fits, it is an excellent option but probably too big. Look for something similar
  20. Ja, but you don't want to get lube on your brake pads..
  21. Bliksem. Hope you get it back. My 84 year old father was attacked in his house right in the middle of that red circle of yours two weeks ago. Also at about 14h00 in the afternoon. Stay safe out there.
  22. Is that like the BMX of bicycles ? Could one you do the Grand National on one ?
  23. I may have missed it, or if I read it I can't remember it, but is the team racing at Pro Tour level next year ?
  24. That is my problem. I got given the Swiss national jersey Spartacus's used on a stage of the Tour in 2010, and it is tiny. I can't get my stomach into it...
