  1. I always understood that it was his mother's pastries that he overdosed on in the off-season.
  2. Not sure who was most embarrassed. One of us had to ride with a dick head on a Spez and the other had to ride with a loser on 26 inch wheels. Either way, a great way for two Hubbers to spend a morning!
  3. Which is the "Sentech Tower" climb in Joburg ? Brixton ?

    MotoGP

That knowledge of machine and circuit that allows a team to optimise the laptime is crucial, so I hope that KTM will put sufficient budget behind the development of their GP2 bike and their campaign to get them up to speed quickly. I remember Kork Ballington winning 250 & 350 world champ titles on a Kawa and then moving to 500 with Kawasaki and getting nowhere. Also, Jon Ekerold who won the 250 world title as a privateer riding a Yamaha engined Bimota he built himself before moving unsuccessfully to 500 cc in a new Cagiva team. These two South African guys really had our hearts beating faster in the early 80's even though I had a Suzuki at the time. At least they weren't on Hondas.

That I got, my question is specifically about can one extrapolate success in GP3 to success in the bigger classes. Does the riding style need to differ and are different skills needed? I suppose in short, can Binder go all the way , and if so is it likely, possible of highly unlikely .

    MotoGP

Please excuse my ignorance, but it has been a while since I followed Moto GP and so I know about as much about it as Patchelicious knows about bicycles in the below R150k price bracket. BinB did not seem to have had as much straight-line speed as some others on Sunday, but could use the slipstream, braking and big balls in the bends to thrash them. How big is the gap between Moto 2 and 3 and what can one deduce from dominant success in Moto3 ? Can one tell how good he really is or can be on the MotoGP stage ? I remember Rossi coming through 125 and 250 before hitting GP. Is that still the path way to the top ?
  7. You recon rather than a MTB ?
  8. I was so miffed that I missed this one this year so it is great to see this is on again next year and on a nice long weekend to boot.
  9. No, I checked the dates. He was cycling in France and swapped his black jersey for a yellow ine.
  10. There is a chap in my neighbourhood who has ridden to SBR from Parkhurst, did 2 full laps and rode back home up Kliprivier. It was a hot December day and he was on a black Pinarello and wearing black kit, with just a touch of Sky blue on his jersey. Good thing he wasn't near Cedar road !
  11. The answer is not difficult. In fact it is quite Simple.
  12. Well done Kevin. You had a vision and turned it into reality. You deserve everything you get for the business.
  13. It seems to cut off the end, but it just goes back to the same elevation as the start. Elevation gain 905 according to Garmin. .
  14. Not so much where, more what. My new steed. Frame bought on the Hub when I stripped and sold my Ritchey to a hubber.

    Rugby...

I remain proud of a bunch of guys who are only got together because nobody else wanted them three years ago. Akkies built a team out of rejects and are playing the most exciting rugby in the competition. This was a game too far, but there were no excuses from the captain who was gracious but not disgraced in defeat. Unlike the 'Canes captain, coach, president, none of whom acknowledged their opposition even in passing.
  16. A frame box for a MTB? No problem. Smaller than a decent suitcase. To satisfy yourself, get a box from your LBS and measure it, or aak the guys abroad to measure the box they have.
  17. It has happened to me. I placed an order and the payment appeared to have failed. So I resubmitted the transaction. By the time I realised that it had been duplicated, both orders had been shipped. I called them and they said not accept the one parcel which was thus returned to them and they refunded my card the moment they got it back. No issue, no cost, no hassle.

    Cricket......

There is a great irony in this success by an exceptional cricketer and the foregoing posts. I have NEVER met any South African who would not have welcomed him into the national team. He clearly is good enough. But then again he is not the norm but the exception that proves the rule. He went to an leading private school with great facilities, excellent coaching and a long and proud cricket tradition. Nobody can become a cricket of his standard without a sound school coaching and playing environment including competitive matches on an ongoing basis. What, therefore is the department of Basic Education doing to ensure that sport is sufficiently funded and promoted at school level?
  20. If only my parents knew that the young Belgian was going to be the greatest, they would have named me eddy from the start....... As for a ride, if you go slowly, Friday 5:15 ?
  21. Nice, very nice. Here is my MX Leader that Bogus did, usually with more appropriate wheels.
  22. Did I dream it or did I see an interview with DI in which he said he thought that Louis would go far in the Olympics and looked forward to working for him?
  23. A quote attributed to the great Texan pharmacologist. And we know what a great sportsman he was. (Apologies, I don't have the appropriate font on my phone )
  24. The part half way around is not called "the mineshaft" for nothing. ....
  25. A nice 17km climb averaging 4.5% with a couple of steeper sections....
