  1. i heard a rumour that bicycling will be having 4 more test ride days this year, with the first one coming up in the middle of Feb, so if you can hold on for a while, you can test most of them...
  2. I also tried it at the bakwena - the taste is a million times better! hard to tell the effects, but I finished the race in 2.50, and have not ridden more than 40kms since Lost city, so I guess it had it's part to play. Overall I'm happy!
  3. Pornstar, I work in an FMCG research company and the first thing we make sure of, is that our clients have distribution. Everyone has mentioned it so far, but if ppl cant find your product they aren't going to buy it (I know it sounds simple, but I also know about listings, trading terms and rebates) Next thing is try to find out what Rabubi said: Can you establish the market size? even just in Dischem? For all you know, your growth might be outstripping that of your competitors. In this case, you're driving the market growth, gaining share and actually doing very well. I'm sure you can chat to Dischem and try to get their scanning data - take the view of trying to grow the category for them and maybe they'll let you see the sales - you can then get an idea of market share and growth
  4. I have forwarded the details of the incident to the Linden CPF as well as notified the people concerned and it will hopefully be discussed at tomorrows meeting. They will then note it and hopefully do patrols to clear out the area. Not such an easy problem to remedy thanks Davidd! If you need more info, PM me.
  5. thanks all. She was badly shaken but she's doing ok. I offered to go fetch her whenever she works late, but as she said, I could just as well have been the car ahead of her - what good would it have done? I did call the Linden police station and asked them to send someone over there. Yip Para, thats where she died, really nasty corner if you're coming from Linden side.
  6. Hi Guys My girlfriend was coming home last night and was almost hi-jacked: She was travelling down Linden rd (becomes 3rd ave.), coming from Barry Hertzog (Emmerentia side), and was in the slipway onto the road that becomes Tana rd. 1 guy with a gun approached her from the right, while another came at her from the left. Luckily she freaked out and floored it and narrowly missed the car in front of her. Please be aware when using the intersection - MTBers will know it, you have to cross over it when going from the spruit to emmarentia. This makes it an easy get away and hiding spot for any criminals, given the open land and trees on either side. To make matters worse, the new robot installed at the top of Tana road means that traffic backs up into the slipway, meaning you have to stop here. Please be careful out there folks!
  7. Gary, what events are on?
  8. there's also racing at HNP as well. Contact gary Rabie if you want details (pm me for his email)
  9. so today's stage has 3 HC climbs - so 20 points for the first 2, then 40 for the last one. If JL gets in the break and takes points over the first 2 climbs, he could challenge for the polka dots jersey. The main GC contenders wont let Kohl go with a break, so thats in his favour as well. Mountains classification 1 Bernhard Kohl (Aut) Gerolsteiner 85 pts 2 Sebastian Lang (Ger) Gerolsteiner 60 3 Thomas Voeckler (Fra) Bouygues Telecom 55 4 John-Lee Augustyn (RSA) Barloworld 53 5 Egoi Martinez De Esteban (Spa) Euskaltel - Euskadi 50 6 Simon Gerrans (Aus) Crédit Agricole 50 7 Yaroslav Popovych (Ukr) Silence - Lotto 49 Frank Schleck (Lux) Team CSC - Saxo Bank 46 9 Cyril Dessel (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale 44 10 José Luis Arrieta Lujambio (Spa) AG2R 40
  10. has anyone looked for flights to Argus yet (2009)? I looked and couldn't find one for less than R1k per person one way!! for this years' race I paid R1200 for 2 ppl return.
  11. where do we put posts with mutiple items then?
  12. semi - hi-jack on MR Look - have you got any track specific pedals? SHJ off
  13. yip, the leg warmers do work, but there is that bit between the leg warmers and jerseyhttp://qloy.com/smileys/smiley2.gif that only is covered by shorts, hence the need to get winter ones
  14. Illovo used to stock vermarc.....don't know if they do still. I saw Vermarc in CT at cyclelab so maybe try our one too.... thanks BG, I'll try them
  15. anyone know which JHB stores stock the vermarc winter bibs then?
  16. Thanks! Sean - mild? mild? you obviously ride at 10am when its nice and warm. Tuesday it was 0 degrees at 5am
  17. just wearing leg warmers is not cutting it with this cold weather. 1. Who makes a good winter pant? (not jean pant) 2. who has stock (JHB)?
  18. compact or standard crankset depends on you: Are you going to be riding in hilly areas or on flats? Are you a heavier rider? You'd only fit compact cranks to make any uphills easier to ride. Some ppl say that you run the risk of "topping out" when you're gunning it on the downhills. And then your casette ratio would be determined by your choice of crankset.
  19. woolies sells those bags of small potatoes that you steam. small enough to carry in your jersey pocket and after 5 hours of sweet drinks, the salty potatoes will taste great. Also easy to reach for and small enough to put one in your mouth without biting
  20. I went down to this event on Saturday and wow... ! I must say, I was really nervous, as the last time I went on to the track it was pretty intimidating - just "heres a bike, go round the track. The guys were super friendly and accomodating, not pretentious at all (well most of them at least) and really wanted to get people on the track. At least 5 ppl stopped to chat with me while warming up, giving advice and encouraging me. Although there wansn't a great turnout for the other cats (Elite cat had quite a few) it was still well done. Mallo also came down and he can vouch that it was helluva good fun and a real eye-opener... you have no idea where the red-line is until you've done a 1500m! So come on folks, lets get down there and support this initiative, it really is worthwhile and only takes 2 hours. (and with me riding, you can be guaranteed that you wont come in last place either) Now i gotta start looking for a track bike!
  21. Thanks Joss. Did you ever read that article in Bicycling about those MIT students who had access to a wind tunnel for testing? One of the things they mentioned was that wearing an Aero helmet (obviously in a TT) was "worth" more than having aero wheels. makes you consider where you should be spending cash (and I'm not denying Zipp wheels' ability to make you faster)
  22. how are those Zefiro wheels? Compared to Zipp, Equinox etc.?
