  1. The 2.35 Barzo and Mezcal measure 62.5mm on my 29mm ID rims. The volume make sense on lower pressure and then the grip is excellent. Confidence inspiring tyres and good fast rolling - agree the weight is negligible due to the performance and you can just send it.
  2. It is when you go to the 2.35 tyres when things get really interesting and Maxxis are not that much lighter and the I find the grip and puncture protection superior with Vittoria Barzo/Mezcal almost making it the logical choice. (still up to personal preferance) Below are actual scale weights: Maxxis Ikon 29x2.35 - 748g Forecaster 29x2.35 - 734g Ardent 29.2.40 - 774g Vittoria Barzo - 29x2.35 (graphene 2.0) - 740g Mezcal 29x2.35 (Cape Cobra) - 760g I personally like Scwhalbe tyres more but have not fully found the characteristics and weights in their range as the Barzo/Mezcal combo - Also the casing volume on their 2.25 Racing Ralph and Rocket Ron or Racing Ray to be low. Nobby Nic has better casing volume in the same sizing.
  3. Week and a half to reply with no stock. This was also the 3rd time I tried... Sorry they have been removed from my list of bike sites I visit, shop from or even browse. Clearly business is great elsewhere.
  4. I think all these guys whose wife/girlfriend tell them to go cycle/surf/run or whatever need to make sure there is no visits happening from the neighbor or melkman...
  5. you are allowed in your yard and people are saying 50m from your door. however this could be restricted to your yard as you are not allowed in the street without it being for the measures the president stipulated - no outdoor riding unless it is on your property - wonder if this is true if you have a farm or similar...
  6. So I entered - better late than never - Cycleevents still said entries close TONIGHT 23:00. I have not ridden much - if any - in the last 3 months and this year has really been dismal for training with injuries and illness putting almost a complete stop to cycling. so decided last week to give it another try when I entered the Gauteng Olympic Cycling World Championships (94.7 or whatever its commonly called) and now one of my other favourite suffer sessions - CCMNC (last year suffered all 110km after having stomach bug the day before and just making the B batch start - won a night at Carnival City in the lucky draw for the effort - which made it a much better day) I am looking forward to this event although it will probably just be another 110km of suffering training ride.
  7. Apparently as per SARS helpdesk the issues experienced means that even completed returns probably would need to be redone once the system is working. I have been told to give it to the end of the week before trying again... Bad news all around then...
  8. Have a section to complete to stipulate my income detail from local farming - I don't even garden...
  9. Stephen "Hanging around the back" Cummings Ja the team is actually smartly selected considering current form of their usual selection mistakes.
  10. I have never seen so much work and effort put in to support a quitter... IMO.
  11. It is sad to say but the "talent" in DDD would do well to perhaps move to other more supporting teams.
  12. I am a bit unsure of the details but... I have picked up that perhaps the prize for the 1st in the ladies category was awarded to the wrong lady??? The ladies in AL seemed to have either had a timing anomaly or some other confusion - 2nd seems to have pictures of her prize etc on her Strava profile.
  13. If a single file line down the side inside the cones was the extent of the group's make up and you dropped off not being able to hold the wheel then you should be dropped. Hard fact to face but fact. Those who rode on the opposite of the cones should be DQ but there is no hard barrier and no way to fully police the group. As organizers i would have neutralized the group and stopped the race and from there anyone crossing be DQ but the manpower required to police such a move is far too big. However it has been done before.
  14. Looks like the VB bunch had some CX riders showing off some skills...
  15. Problem is that we where sharing the highway with the cars that also wanted to use all the other offramps we were riding past - having to stop the cars at each offramp so the groups could pass would have caused more issues. However I don't think that using the highway section in a "shared" capacity was a good idea anyway either use it completely or not at all. Then there was the id10ts riding left of the cones to sit out the wind was utter stupidity. Unfortunately gutters and wind is racing. Even in the alphabet soup that is open seeded. One of the AL ladies went over an already knocked cone right in front of me and it sent her rear wheel up and over the cone - she stayed upright - greats skills lady!
  16. Hey I was also caught just behind and then saw the split - quite a few splits where guys just could not hold the wheel in front and then the guys behind just sat in and let the group go - extremely frustrating when you are blocked in and nothing you can do I also went to the edge of blowing up - trying to cross but got about halfway there and went back to the group ahead. On the last few climbs we made up a small amount of time and caught some that where dropped off the very front but those last 5km was hard yards... I just want to say  to the ladies in the AL bunch - good to see such strong ladies right up there - WELL DONE!!!
  17. Another AL bunch surfer rat here... having not done any outside rides other than Tour of Durban I fear it is awfully cold in the mornings to be in lycra on a bicycle... 12degC to 15degC predicted for races day - sorry but without much "natural" insulation that's Brrrrrrr in my book
  18. I think its a case of sitting back and doing as little as possible and cashing in on what was built before until it all goes completely to sh!#. Sounds exactly like (insert: Government, Eskom, Telkom, or whichever other suitable here)
  19. Pity protests killed the fun of the climb to Pinetown and the race had to be cut short. There where a lot of guys in AL that needed to go learn how to ride a bike again and how to ride in groups. Guys where cutting off others and just changing lines all over the place - was really hard to keep calm with so many id10ts. Was fun though and also finished in the sprint at the front of the AL boys... I just want to ask the guys whom are guilty - why would you dash up the inside at the turn around before the corner??? seriously!?!?!?! there is no way you are going to turn that sharp and make the acceleration after the turn AND not inhibit others or cause accidents. To those that went down - all the best with recovery.
  20. If we are honest - Jakob Fuglsang and Julian Alaphilippe where caught with their bibs on the floor fondling each other... Van der Poel just happen to be chasing really hard and caught them.
  21. And that's how it started...
  22. Is there reservations? We like him as an athlete - until we find out something to slay him over - then as usual we will be slaying him because of it. excuse the pun but is there dirt on him already?
  23. I do not see Mathieu being domestique to anyone or riding in anyone's shadow. A world tour team not focussed on perhaps riding in service of him may just kill this wildfire which I think just needs MORE fuel and focus (he is a little bit wild) Reminds me a lot of Sagan honestly - perhaps even more unpredictable yet always a factor. That's why cyclocross and MTB suits him - they allow him to ride his own race and ride focussed on how he feels he can do.
  24. I'm a fan. Well deserved wins recently. Really sticking it to all the favourites. (well I suppose it makes him a favorite now also)
