  1. I just remember bent frames and snapped bmx's of all the neighbourhood kids who got them and tried to use the ramps and pump track we built in the velt. Hours straightening those crap rims.... made a few randelas back then for Wicks chappies and Wilson toffies. Lekker dae.
  2. I did ADZ 50:57 but not sure about the whole route as I did it as part of the four horsemen route.
  3. I know someone that tried the helium thing and it came to 9g saving for the 2 wheels...
  4. jaaaa 2 years ago... since then not much else except Brittish National Champ.
  5. Exactly... I remember him chasing Yates at TDF 2 years ago for white but never came close really and now Simon Yates is miles ahead... (probably due to reasons he already did time for) but its clear he seems to be losing a bit of ground to those around him.
  6. The question I have is whether it is good training to use the grand tours for training or would it be better to just do training not at the grand tours? Gaining the experience is great but if you are a seasoned pro then what benefit would that have? Maybe someone from DDD can answer what the plan was for Louis at the Giro and doing 3 in a row? I do not think he is ready to slog it out with all the top GC riders just yet but typically I don't think Aru is quite there yet either - he really looked like he was suffering and about to collapse at the GIro when he was on camera. Is Louis growing where he is now or is something amiss??? Other riders in the young rider category seem to be making better advances in their careers...
  7. My training data is all a scramble at this stage... Seems to be either going backwards or not making any gains (a real bummer when you are trying to make gains) Plus a light cold has halted everything now. Think I need a reset and then will restart. The issue I have is that the workouts in the plan I have all seem way too short as they are only 60min. So I tend to do another 30-40min Z3-Z4 afterwards. But I think I am doing too much and thus "overtraining". 3hr 94.7 @ 3w/kg ave sounds about right but you will find that with all the undulations its more like 5min @ 4w/kg and then 5min @ 2w/kg. It is one event where you got to let the brakes go when going downhill. Every year I see so many people on the brakes on the downhills because they are too scared to go fast. This you need to not do if you have time goals.
  8. Seems soft... but close - rear seems quite soft front seems ok.
  9. suppose there is nothing stopping you... unsure about the data thing. If you zwift for 1hr usually and your 100k takes 3 hr then I am sure you can check what the data usage will be by doing 1 session via phone and not wifi just to gauge the usage.
  10. when the workout is done you are done with the workout. the route thing just keeps rolling so when you feel you are done or if its a loop then it will be when you are back at the start.
  11. New bike in a shop still to be setup for whomsoever purchases - can still forgive the steerer. (Although in my mind headset spacers do not exist - slammed or DIE)
  12. Just a pity about the scrap red groupset...
  13. Still can't believe I have to miss this race... Good luck to all and enjoy the warmup rides too!
  14. Is it just me or does all these mtbs need a steerer trim before the pictures where taken...
  15. I must be honest and say the trails are really beautiful and apparently ever expanding. The trails are maintained by HillBillies MTB Club according to the signage and their website and FB page. So just a for these guys on building awesome trails there. I did not have a chance to go ride and explore all the trails but did have some sightings of baboons and other wildlife while racing through the forests.
  16. Had a bit of a family holiday and visit in George last week. Took the bike for a bit of trails around the dam and the singletrack there - very nice trails and well enjoyed.
  17. No actually have multiple different bikes with a wide variety of groupsets so reign it in a tad. Even compared to previous iterations of Campy rear derailleurs (which some are works of art) this new derailleur is really REALLY bad. In a world where design is very driven by aesthetics and aerodynamics this looks like a complete fail - so on the point of whether it works or not it already has 2 strikes.
  18. Riding in a group makes a huge difference. Playing sweeper on a few group rides I can tell you that you need to maintain 1-2wkg more than the group to be able to catch up once dropped. Typically a group doing 2.5wkg you would need about 4wkg to catch them and then it takes a long time to do it so there is usually plenty suffering to catch a group again. The speed benefit is real. I have done many races where the front group did less wkg than some dropped guys but had the benefit of the group effect and thus pulled away.
  19. That rear derailleur is an abomination of note... no class, style or elegance in the design of that thing. It is really out there. I even had to hold back the gag reflex there...
  20. This happens a lot but don't expect to have the other BL guys "LIKE" your ride if you did no work and then sprint for 400th place or try to break the group - Breakaway is different. Buddy doping is another problem we have. This is the same reason there is so many inexperienced riders causing havoc in the quicker groups - they never learned the ropes properly through gaining experience in working their way through the alphabet soup and then accidents happen. So be careful when assisting in promoting buddies and friend to groups through buddy doping them - make sure they can hang with the group you are getting them into. Wheelsuckers are a reality of racing al the way to the pro peloton - the true champions can still win by riding a wheelsucker off the wheel. Just to add... there is no winning in the alphabet soup... I also sprint if safe to do so at the end but even if you come 1st in A or AL or whatever - you still did not win. I do it to gain the experience of such with an eye on moving to licenced racing and not be a complete noob. When you tell people you came 400th out of 3000 it does not matter that it was 1st in A or B or whichever.
  21. Despite really wanting to go this year I might not make it . Last year was awesome. very disappointed that I cant this year
  22. So true you had to post it twice...
  23. minion DHR rear... think it might clear mud better than the Aggressor - could get clumped up and the paddle tread pattern would aid grip. Shorty front - better for the soft muddy wet the others seem for drier conditions... or mixed.
