Limit or outright ban these topics / discussions / threads and there will be less bickering and moderation required....simple rule of life.

There should be no need to introduce a blanket ban on non cycling related threads, there are quite a few of these already in existence that do not need any moderation.

Poor or lack of moderation has allowed the bickering and fighting threads to get out of hand, and then they get locked long after the horse has bolted or the low blows thrown.

Quite right...however, if it was properly moderated you and the small group who boer and bicker and fight on those threads would not be here and it would be a much quieter place.

Unless he's pulling off the biggest fake in the industry then I don't think he's at the level of a top domestique at the moment so why even take him to the Tour?

What is puzzling for me is they will have seen & studied all his power stats and performances in Tenerife and they'll know exactly where he is in terms of preparation and in comparison to the other guys on the camp and they have persisted with getting him ready for the Tour.

IMHO.... They're either hiding it because it's bad or they're hiding it because they're planning something big and they're hoping to catch the other teams off guard.

It's an absolute mystery to me.

He is clearly not in form

Flipping the stem around is so obvious!!! Magic!!

Just tried it, rode a block around the house, more control/connection to the steering.

    Thanks for this!

Thanks, decided to go cheap to appreciate the bike growth!

comfort I'll be able to measure overtime, need to do a proper ride!

    Well done

That will make all the difference

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for your input!

I came right yesterday on my first road bike.

2016 Silverback Strela Comp, nice condition, Sora group set, nearly new Conti tires, think its a descent start for 5k ????

Now, stupid question about fitting, i am 175cm height and 80cm inseam, the recommended size for me is 54cm, the bike is a 54cm.

The seat as you see in the pic is where i fit +-, the handle bars seem high as compared to all the cool/epic/pro pics I see on the interwebs (where the seat seems to be 10cm higher than the bars).

Ill try take an other pic with me on it.

Am i being stupid? who cares? is it because of the angled stem? bike too big for me? should I shut up and go ride?

    Thanks!

I think you have made an excellent buy.Perfect.

Ride it for a while with the stem and bars like that until you are comfy and confident.Maybe then swap the stem around and give it a try.Might be more comfortable.I am not comfy sitting upright.Always feel my back is arched and loss of control

ps where are your folks ? I’m trying to get from Louvein to heroldt and back to Montegu pass without hitting the tar

There is a dirt road as far as Ezeljacht Guest Farm from Heroldt then you are on private property.I have done the whole dirt road thing from Heroldt to Louvain on 3 occasions but it is mostly on private land and was organized by Wikus and his team.Ask them.

I know you said you are looking for single track, but truly, the one thing you should do if based in Oudtshoorn, is to ride the Swartberg Pass. Yes, you will have to take the car to the start of the pass, but it is a safe a place to ride with no crime or dodgy settlements anywhere. The views are to die for, vehicles will be traveling slowly and most will smile and clap and start a chat. Once at the top, you can ride down to the Prince Albert side, the more spectacular part, but just give yourself enough time to climb back up and home. Otherwise get someone to meet you for lunch in Prince Albert and hitch a ride back. Unless you are like Copperhead, then you ride back with a few detours thrown it too. Thank me later for directing you to the best gravel pass in SA, some would say the world!

You can park at the Kango Caves Caravan Park

Do NOT ride anywhere near Montague Pass or Witfontein forest alone. Seriously. There are some serious miscreants lurking around those parts and wait for cyclists and hikers to pass and then attack. There have been fatalities there in the past. I stayed in George until 2013 and those areas have always been dodgy.

You can ride by the George dam and most days you will find a bunch of likeminded folks out on their bikes. From there you can loop to Saasveld and on to Wilderness, Hoekwil, 7 Passes and even end up by Garden Route Trail Park by Karatara if you so please. But none of these should be attempted alone if possible.

Its a sad state of affairs, but nothing is being done about the crime in the mountains in George and sadly innocent folks are the ones that are hurt.

Apart from that, the trails above George are really, really good. Just make sure you can ride with other folks around.

    What fatalities?

We used to ride from the riding club up over Montague Pass down then along to Louvain where we camped overnight and then over Ou Wapad the next day, Bergplaas along 7 Passes Road and back to the riding club every December and there was never a word about fatalities

During the lockdown last year I went through all my old Ride and Bicycling Mags for interesting articles which I scanned in for reference.  In 2014 Bicycling had a TDF edition and published a few French-inspired recipes.  I saved them and put them in my recipe file.

Yesterday I tried this one - I'm no cook so I think it was more luck than anything else, but I can highly recommend it!

    Was really good!

One of my favourite Le tour 1989 came down to the ITT here's the story told by the loser on the day Lareunt Fignon who started the day with a 50 second advantage over Greg Lemon. The final stage of 24.5 km to the Champs Elysee was all that stood between him and a third victory. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2010/jul/22/tour-laurent-fignon-greg-lemond

Watched it live on the box.Edge of the seat stuff.

Would love to see them try something outrageous and Yates going for the win. It'll have to be next level outrageous (border line Floyd Landis stuff) though to make up 3 minutes on Bernal.

But if that's the plan, why on earth are Bike Exchange pacing? Surely it would make more sense to make Ineos pace on the flats?

Ineos are not going to do the pacing, its up to the others now

I don't want to derail this thread with technicalities coz causing harm someone who is merely doing their job is pretty disgusting.

But to be clear. We as citizens of this country are the land owners. Not Sanparks. And more specifically TMNP is owned by us the citizens of Cape Town. Sanpark's business is extracting money from a resource that they do not own. Their mandate might be conservation but they are APPALING at it.

TMNP is not owned by "us"

    What a ridiculous concept
