  1. This is a common mavic problem . Freehub needs a service. Probably dirty or bearings/bushes are shot. Easy to do yourself. You will need a 5 and a 10mm Allen key, some aerosol parts cleaner ( Motorex Easy clean is great) and a little bit of light hub oil. If you can get it Mavic hub oil is ideal but not easy to find , I use Motorex semi- bath oil. This is just to oil the freehub pawls and a small squirt in the hub body. While you are at it you may as well check your the hub bearings. you will also need some grease. If you need some held I will show you how....it wall take all of 15 minutes max. I am in Parkview around the corner from you. PM me .
  2. This is a standard issue with Mavic hubs when the plastic/teflon bushing wears out in the freehub body. Crap design.
  3. I don`t think that will affect `leisure` cycling as they talk about public roads. Most people who tow their kids along will probably stick to private roads / areas. I would agree with them that towing kids on a public road is a no-no. I think the traders and hawkers will be most affected by this legislation. They should rather reconsider legislation for safe passing distances, obligatory lights and reflective gear and educate motorists on the rights of cyclists and other road users.
  4. Was thinking exactly the same thing the other day.....9 bibs , 20+ shirts and I always seem to end up in the same kit.....wtf.....we are all plain greedy!
  5. The oakley suppliers in Johannesburg are in the Athol square shopping centre near Sandton.
  6. you saw the marked price......you paid for it.....Stop comparing after the fact and be satisfied.....I am glad we have such diverse prices for the same product because that can only be good for us. Look around at the car industry.......prices are so similar on average, true compettion is non existent and the customer always gets screwed. used to be the same with the banks but things are looking better now. Free market rules!
  7. link please!
  8. That should go perfectly with the Nishiki
  9. Good helmet and shoes are essential but you dont need top of the range bling.. The Specialized shoes are great even at entry level...Giro` Indicator`(i think?) helmet is good entry level helmet and should be around R600. The Fox helmets are brilliant value and should also be under a grand. Rudy helmets are for roadies man!
  10. She needs to loose some weight
  11. Based on last generation Merc ML platform ....Nice looking vehicle but not in this colour .....people may mistake you for Juius Malema !
  12. I have never had issues with the spring inflators although i have heard this advise before!
  13. RESPECT
  14. My ` tjommie` is still numb and my riding partner has vowed never to ride with me again in any race longer than 3 days!
  15. I`ll take it for my gardener, he seems to wear saddles out in 3 months, max. Duct tape is his friend.
  16. Plenty of time . We started training for the 2010 J2C on Christmas day 2009. Day 4 probably rates as our best day on a bike ever. Beautiful. Don`t underestimate the flat days, the relentless pedaling can wear you down especially if there are lots of f*cking grass `polle` for want of a better word.
  17. Ralphs are fine for the front Ron on back, Snakeskin Evo are much better than standard tyres but the standard tyres should be fine in winter unless she is a major race snake or technical rider. Don`t let all the resident `pros` tell you the tyres are crap as this is not true unless she is a very advanced rider. They do tend to wear very fast though and are not suitable for tubeless unless they are Snakeskin Evo.
  18. No brainer, keep the Yet, or else trade it on a SC Tallboy 29er if you really are that keen to buy in on the whole big wheels thing. A HT can never replace a good dualie, no matter what the fanboys say. Obviously this depends on what type of riding you do but judging by the 575 .........
  19. I love Conti Tyres, Mountain kings are great. I have also experienced `bubbles` between the tread and tyre carcass,(MK 2.4 UST) these seem to form where punctures have sealed themselves and may be due to the sealant leaking between the tyre layers if that makes sense. Did not bother me a bit and only really noticed them when the bike was wet. Never had a tyre failure( as in dramatic blowout) from these tyres and still consider them to be one the toughest tyres ever. I am dissapointed though with the tyre availability of Contis and every time i shop for MK 2s there is no stock. What`s up Conti?
  20. http://puritech.co.za/?gclid=CNak7YPPkbACFUxlfAodzVEntA Very reasonable pricing and not too expensive to replace cartridges. I installed the small ultrafiltration system for R 600 odd and the water quality has been excellent.
  21. Lets keep things in perspective. There are on average 50,000 + bicycles stolen in Amsterdam alone, every year. As said before bicycle theft is huge in England as well. Not that I`m trying to underplay the original poster, i would also be devastated by this type of loss.
  22. I`m in. Always wanted to ride the mine dumps at Wemmer....wait, are there still Mine dumps at Wemmer?
  23. .....pass a perceived insult along.......
  24. What gadget are you using at home? could be a faulty reading if it is one of those dischem specials ,but that does seem like a major discrepancy. As said before if you take your BP in the morning after a good sleep the reading will probably be a bit lower than at work with the stress etc.
