  1. I was in peak hour traffic this morning, shimmied my way to the front of the jamb … then waited … figured I wanted to move the rear wheel over slightly, like you would on a bicycle .. I am locked the front brake, shifted my weight forward and flicked my hips … well the motorbike did not move. Turns out the Harley is a little heavier than my commuter bicycle :P

  2. Been forwards and backwards with a few options over the last year or two.

Started with the R500 ranges (Volcano, etc) and they are fine, but long term did not last.

Moved up to a set of JBL Flex Waves (Nice 12mm driver with good battery life) that were fine, I just had issues where it lost connection with the Laptop intermittently. On my android devices it was rock solid. The JBL app is rather decent to fine tune the sound experience.  These got me more into the JBL eco system and bought a pair of over ear JBL NC 770's that have been really good. I work with these between 10-14 hours a day and the battery lasts 50hrs ... noise cancelling (NC) is so good that I am now calling it the WNC (Wife Noise Cancelling) headphones.

So I tried out another set of JBL in ears (to replace the Flex Waves that I sent back) something or other Beams ... now this cost more than the previous set of JBL in ears, so I made a spur of the moment purchase decision thinking it would be better. It certainly was more comfortable with a more secure fit, BUT the sound sucks, even after fiddling with the app. If I did a bit of research I would have seen that the Beams only have a 8mm driver. These were donated to my eldest.

Looked around a bit after this, and more and more got pulled towards the Anker Soundcore range. My final decision was on a set of Liberty 4NC (They were on sale for R1700.00 when I purchased them).

The Liberty 4NC have a 1mm driver, an assortment of silicone tips to fine tune the fit, which is essential to get a good seal. What is really brilliant though is the app it comes with. You first do a test where it checks for the seal of the earphones in your ears (Using it's one built in mics) and then you run through a custom equalizer where you select "A" or "B" type sounds as if you were at the optomotrist.

The end result is a really good sounding in ear sound, good custom setup of the touch of the buds, they sit tight in your ears no matter how much jumping around you do, the noise cancelling is really good, and the list goes on.

    Stand out features

    • multi point connectivity
    • 10hrs play time with a total of 50hrs inc. the case
    • ANC 2.0
    • Hi Res LDAC
    • IPX4 water resistant ... so essentially sweat
    • can be wirelessly charged
    • "find my bus" if lost
    • I speak under correction, but it is Bluetooth 5.3

After owning these I am seriously impressed and would be looking to a high end over ear with NC in the future if the JBL NC 770's do not last the test of time.

I thought about an interesting loop hole this morning when using BHP. So let's say I am the buyer of a certain item or kit. I use BHP and the item arrives on a Friday or even a Thursday for that matter. I then decide to fit the item to my bike and take it out for a test run before confirming that the item has been delivered. After testing it I then return it and claim it to not be what I am looking for / want. Is there something that safeguards the seller against something like this?

It almost comes to the point where a seller has to take a comprehensive set of pics at the time of boxing and shipping?

  4. I went to the "Things of Beauty" show in Stellies this morning, and as part of the Harley Haven SA group ... we must have been at least 60 bikes, and I should have taken more pics.

Some great bikes around and a good many awesome cars ... overall a rather good event..

I looked at that bike and instinctively clamped my legs together as the memory of me crushing my nuts on the gear lever back in '78 is still very fresh in my mind

    '78 .... the year I was born.

Going to have to call you uncle Andy from now on

    Week 6:

i have been medically cleared yesterday to have medium-to-full weight bearing on my leg. So, from today I am doing the one-crutch assisted moon walk.

I have gone through a few dark valleys lately and struggled to get out of bed a few times, fighting to get back into my life. And then I remember that I always teach my son, Jonah, that “getting back up after life knocks you down… and life will knock you back… and then it’s time to stand up inside yourself…”

Off to the USA for a few weeks to spend retreat time in the snow-kissed mountains of Colorado. Grateful for my beautiful wife who makes my morning oats with chia seeds, and my son who ‘assesses my right leg’ every morning before school. And my friends who drive me around for the little things.

Be safe out there on roads and trails, Peoples. 💟

On the bright side .... this has brought the people who love and care for you to the "front and center" ... enjoy and appreciate them ;)

Hairy asked for some pics……..here are a few. The bike room is undergoing some rearranging so some of the wall mounted pics need moving. I plan to build a platform for the small Yam FS 50 to sit against the wall above the CB 400 and CB 750. The big Yam FZR will park alongside the Aprillia 125 when it returns from the respray and refresh in CT. The big German Fraulein needs the Certificate of Authenticity from BMW Heritage in Munich to be mounted on the wall near her parking. Currently the DT125, KLR650 and XL600s are in my old mud brick garage. The XL awaiting rebuild, the KLR awaiting repairs from my “close terrain inspection” in Baviaans and the little DT is simply keepling the two company!! The Big Katoom was waiting for me to get the back wheel in (done).
The Yam T7 was jolling outside and missed the photos! The Ducati shirts are from Montreal, Barcelona and London. There are a lot of small boxed models, Tamiya kits(to build), coffee cups and general “bike stuff” that are in another part of my bike room. Al but the FS50 and XL600 are on battery chargers and kept running. All have papers and are licenced.IMG_0957.jpeg.d9d1dc5d935ccd6bcf6afe921968cbb7.jpegIMG_0956.jpeg.d6cb6a0cb17f42e4ab15cd42df2d99e7.jpegIMG_0955.jpeg.0f763624fbc5e926643ef88bb90be7d9.jpegIMG_0954.jpeg.0d587f20aa8d2ef337bfe682bd2685c1.jpegIMG_0953.png.bf7c4d630b3860ee681fcb695f6a5ddd.png

    Congrats, that is pretty awesome.

    Use them and enjoy them!

You won't be sorry - we had to make a call and stop my Dad from riding some of the really old Velocettes (the pre 1936 bikes) and when one of the guys came round to collect he saw the "Special" my Dad and I built almost 20 years ago.  He made me a really attractive offer, but I declined because it was the first Velocette that my Dad and I built together and I just don't want to lose those memories.  Shame my Dad was quite emotional when he heard me say that.

prob one of the nicest thing your Dad would ever hear a son/daughter saying something like that.

  9. My eldest and I hopped on the HD Sat. morning to go through to Killarney to watch some of the racing for the first time.

A rather fun spectator sport, and the skid pan to the side is also entertaining to watch the guys drifting ... these guys have some serious skills!

Highlight though was the bike racing, turns out the my eldest's school buddy from last year (Out of school now) races in the Super Bike Cat. The youngster was hammering away in the lead till the second or third last lap where he was overtaken on a corner and eventually finishing second. These guys in the front are really moving!

Will definitely go through to watch again.
