Despite my earlier comment re the bike collection and the Missus being happy……………

we drove to the Mother City today to take a look at a reasonably rare potential addition to the stable. A 2006 Ducati 749 Dark. Bike has just 13000 kms on and is almost perfect, just one or two tiny marks on the plastics. The Missus decided it would be a great stablemate to the 1098. So……..long story short, I have become the custodian of this fine little motorcycle and hope like heck its value increases as I believe it should. These Pierre Terblanche bikes (999 included) did not have the popularity of the preceding Tamburini designs. I personally feel the 749 and 999 styling is still relevant today.  So here she is, Dark edition in Matt Black. Completely original including the tool kit behind the right fairing and Ducati exhaust. Tyres are Bridgestone S23’s so they will need a change to some appropriate Pirelli hoops.IMG_0945.jpeg.f2573b7fe7b3b0b31f3d7e830afc74a3.jpeg

What are the chances of a pic with the full stable of bikes together please :)

Week 5 since the hit & run incident in Green Point, Peoples.

My right leg is losing its musculature due to lack of activation and mobility. My ankle and calf is still under reconstruction and finding its way to full recovery with daily wound management and physiotherapy 3 x daily. My left leg is working twice as hard and compensating for its missing twin.

I will walk again and my right leg is getting ready to kiss the earth in a few weeks’ time. Looking forward to the horizon, I have ordered a new road bike and replaced all my accessories which felt like an administrative task as my relationship to my endurance sport is under a necessary and important life review.
My inner recovery work arising now is to search for any splinters of post traumatic stress when I visit the scene of the incident in the new few days. This task of facing the past is an important part of healing, recovery and becoming Whole again.

Grateful for so many things: The loving and protective bubble around me at home, a durable and resilient body, a steadfast mind, the privilege of having a superb medical team attending to me and all those caring messages and lekka visits that pulls me back towards Life.

Be safe out there, Online Community. 💟

Lekker Dale, there is always a long tough climb to get to the top of the mountain where you can soak up the vista and enjoy the thrill of the hard earned decent with the wind in your face.

You are climbing that mountain, and will get to the top.

I have that feeling every time I travel to places where "things just work". But every once in a while I am reminded that I tend to wear glasses that give me a limited view of my own world, despite thinking that I see it exactly like it is. Last week we had a young visitor from Spain and it was her first time to Cape Town (yes, I know it isn't the whole country). She is of Argintian and Colombian ancestry, grew up in both countries, studied in Sweden and Italy and lived in the Netherland sbefore moving to Spain, first to Madrid and now lives in Majorca.

She was simply blown away by Cape Town and the winelands, the mountain, the food, the beaches, friendly people, the art galleries, weather, the waterfront, Kirstenbosch, Boulders, even Uber, shops. She did not quite expect lion and wild animals in the streets, but said she certainly did not anticipate such first world beauty. Yes, I know she visited while there were no power cuts, demonstrations  and the weather was perfect, but it mademe look at my own surroundings again.

Sometimes it is good to see through an outsiders eyes!

But Cape Town is "South Africa" is it not, and everything beyond Worcester is "North Africa"?

I almost got taken out this morning by a MyShiti bus, one of the big ones. I was approaching the circle by the Table Bay mall (I was there first by a rather large margin)  when the moegoe behind the wheel came from behind and just decided to cut the lanes to get his behemoth around the circle, and in the process he squeezed me towards the kerb while his rear wheels where trying their best to mount my back wheel. After k@kking myself and letting the mini behind me pass, and the aforementioned moegoe stopped at the bus stop just outside the circle, I decided to stop by his window and just about blixem it so hard that if it were glass it would have shattered. He jumped in his seat from fright, and I ripped into him because of the severe adrenaline spike I was encountering before I pedalled away.

It would seem that the bus drivers have prior experience driving minibus taxis because they drive just as bad with zero awareness of a cyclist flashing like a Christmas tree.

If you can get the bus no. then call the call center for MyCity, they do take these sorts of complaints seriously.

FWIW i 100% disagree with this statement.

Its an open/free market - you can ignore the offers.

    yes and no

a "hubber" could be picking up the same item for more than what the dealer is offering and yet still walk away with a great deal and the seller also gets a little more out of the deal.

then again if someone wants to sell fast, then yes a dealer makes sense.

what irked me was the tone of the message with a low ball offer that did/does not sit well with me.

Needed to get out and ride this morning, decided to go to Yzerfontein this morning as a quick Google search said they have a kick ass bakery called Rossmead.... So headed out for a breakfast and some breads.

The Google reviews were 100% correct, their breads are kickass ....... Give them a spin if you are in the area, or looking for a quick ride out.

Not the best pic, but this big boy was taking up the main roads into Yzerfontein, on the loop out again he was in the main road again and stared me down before moving to the side so I could pass, I never got a chance to snap a pic of him on the way out .... was more concerned about what exit path I would take if he came for me 😂

Lots of tears of gratitude and relief today, Peoples. So many achievements unlocked on my pathway to recovery after my visit to my orthopaedic surgeon.

Spoon cast and bandaging removed and my ankle is looking good after two weeks of post-op recovery. Stitches on my soft tissue wound around the right calf removed as well; about 40 - 50 of them, excluding about a dozen of internal stitches that will remain and eventually dissolve.

I am welcoming in the rehabilitation phase with physiotherapy starting on Friday. It is also time to ask my wife to lift me to the gym with my moon boot and crutches for next 3 weeks so I can go pomp my mossels.

I can feel my life force is slowly returning, like a tide coming back in, and I begin to look forward to the horizon.

A couple weeks swinging yourself around on those crutches you will be ripped, gone would be the roadie upper body build and in comes Mr Dale who looks like a trail rider :P

Do you miss the Ladies and Bicycles thread?

Does it have a place on the bikehub?

Would admin have a hernia if he found a thread title like that back here?

if you found your answer to all those questions is YES, then the best solution is to go click your browser to this place rather. Some lovely "landscape" too.

    as you were.

I need to get back  out on the bicycle again

Big day today - wound dressing day! This is a routine about every 4-5 days. The big threat is infection and the possibility of a skin graft for the right calf is still in the medical picture. The ankle surgery was successful and I wil be walking with crutches for an estimated 5 weeks.

My mind is like a garden. It can be beautiful and colourful and I have to watch for the fast-growing mental weeds of negative self-limiting thoughts. Pessimistic thoughts can delay recovery; optimistic thoughts can promote recovery.

I do not miss my professional world of working in high performance settings even though it is highly meaningful to me. What I miss most is taking my son to school in the morning and going out on sushi dates with my partner. Soon, soon, soon.

Several people of this online community have reached out, visited and offered help. Dankie baie.

So I made the first step to getting a bike to ride on the dirt .... bought a pair of Leatt boots 😂

    Small steps

forgot to upload a pic, not pitchas and it never happened

colours are so so, but they were a great deal on the Leatt 5.5's for a supposedly "high end" boot.

Orthopaedic follow-up scans revealed fragmented bone and strained tendon, likely from being cleated in and flung from the bike with the collision. The unexpected  news from my surgeon dented my morale and, after surfing a wave of panic, I settled down and began to prepare as the operation was scheduled within 24 hours. Prognosis looks good. However, hou ma’ duime as my case discussion meeting with Doc Johan is only tomorrow.👨🏽‍⚕️

Every few days I shed a few bandages and plasters from the abrasions. Even my spare ribs are far less painful when I bounce around on the crutches. Just call me Wolverine. 🐺

Anti-inflammatory foods on my menu include: blueberries, beetroot, ginger, avocados, salmon, walnuts (and koeksisters, rehabilitation for the soul, of course). My daily morning coffee kisses the soul too as the recovery journey is physiological, psychological, spiritual and psychosocial. 🥑🫐

Thank you for all the messages. It has an energy in it that can either build or break. Appreciate the loving kindness in every note, gesture and joke. My online community truly rocks! 🫵🏽

Ok Saturday morning I’m going to tune those joggers with two feet on the ground that they’re illegal

Im not sure how this will turn out but I’m going to pick with a “ I want to see the manager “ haircut

You lot know that calling the runners "joggers" will be far more triggering than anything else you are bandying about.
