  1. Dang!!![emoji106] What iz your home address and alarm codes.......asking for a friend......[emoji6]
  2. Hello and welcome khz.I have to be honest, I've been neglecting my trusty steeds for my various motorized 2 wheels of late, I do feel shame, but when you twist that throttle you just dont care.[emoji38]
  3. Why not? Will get the fixie prepped for you....[emoji12]
  4. Congrats and enjoy![emoji106]
  5. Dang! That's a pretty bike you got there Spokey. Love the color scheme. [emoji108] As I think I mentioned before I was planning on buying a KLR once I sold my GSXR, but couldn't let the deal I got on my DR slip by. Just like the DR's the KLR's are cheap and cheap to run as you also said real bang for buck.
  6. Pretty much something like that. When a piston seizes the piston and rings get so hot, usually from lack of lubrication, that the metal often fuses together like this, often referred to as a heat seize.
  7. Interesting videos with a bit of comic sans. [emoji106]
  8. You can't go wrong with a DR, I would however advise against the 600 as it is an old model and only has kickstart....[emoji123] Rather go for the newer 400 or 650, they are bombproof donkeys. They are not fast, but they are reliable and cheap and cheap to maintain. And because they are cheap they have a "good" resale value, as in you get back what you paid for after a couple of years. Also in this class a Kawasaki KLR is a good option to start out on. You can buy either the older KLR 650 or DR 650 for R20k-R25k and mess around with it, do some gravel, do some tar cruising and decide what riding you really want to do. After a year you can sell the bike for what you paid for it and move on to what you really want. But for now go kick some more tyres......[emoji6]
  9. Thanks Hairy, I'm not always a model parent, but I try my best for this little guy.[emoji106]
  10. I also thought it to be feul starvation or an firing issue, maybe a clogged filter or a faulty spark plug When I stopped somewhere for coffee and waited for half an hour the bike would start up perfectly when cooled down and idle smoothly, but as soon as things warmed up the trouble would start. Because of this I dismissed a dirty feul filter or carb issue as that would cause issues whether the bike was hot or cold. Thought it might be spark plugs and checked on Google for the nearest Midas or AutoZone from the city centre, was even contemplating stoping at Woodstock Moto Co , but first phoned a friend who owns a bike shop in Worcester for advise. He dismissed the spark plugs saying a faulty plug would give trouble regardless of the tempretare. His analysis based on my symptoms given over the phone was that the Coil was most likely the culprit. According to him the coils on the DR600 tends to get buggered as they get older and the effect you get is similar to a twin misfiring and loosing power on one cylinder. This was exactly what I was experiencing and because the DR600 has a twin spark coil you will experience los of power if one plug stops firing. So will be looking around for a replacement unit, according to him he has fitted a coil from a Chinese twin cylinder motorbike to a DR600 before, might just go that way if I can't find original or if original costs as much as the bike...... Will report back when I manage to get it sorted.
  11. Headed over the mountain to Cape Town this past Saturday with my boy on the back of the DR. Collected a jacket and helmet for him since he only has MX gear and his helmet is getting a tad small for him. Got the jacket at a very good price so we'll just have to make a plan with the color. As we got on the bike he asked me if I could go really fast so that nobody would see he's wearing pink.[emoji23] Unfortunately the bike developed a misfire during the ride and cut out a few times. We almost made it to the top of Du Toitskloof Pass when it kinda decided no more and I could only get it running for about 200m at a time from there. Fortunately we were able to free down the other side to the bottom and I phoned a mate to come pic us up there.
  12. Mmmmmm...........ATGATT...........
  13. The problem with getting him into the front part of the pack is that it will put him in a position where he will have more pressure on him to perform. Here is my reasoning. I would at first encourage him to get further in front of the bunch before the start. This will be achieved by either being at the start line earlier or pushing his way to the front between the other kids before the start. Secondly he should do some sprints to get him use to darting away at the start line to try and get ahead in the pack as far as possible before thay hit the less passable parts of the trail. He will also be able to sprint past slower guys on sections where there is the slightest chance to pass where he will otherwise have not been fast in the past. This would have been my approach, having said that I wouldn't recommend doing this as this would most likely take the fun out of riding and as said above put pressure on the kid as he feels that he has had the training so must now perform. But that's just me, I might be wrong and there might be another/better way to accomplish what you want to do. See what the coach says and let us know on here.
  14. What a k.... way to start the day.[emoji6]
  15. Hi Hairy, If I were you I'd jump at the chance to buy that bike. If it is as you say a uncompleted project then this is the ideal way to get to know youre bike while restoring it. I'm a hands-on kind of guy so I'd be fiddling away at it myself, but a good option for you to work on the bike yourself under guided supervision would be to contact the guy's at Woodstock Moto Co , if they're not to hipster for you.....[emoji6] At a purchase price of around R15k I doubt the restoration cost would bring you to the price of a 883 Sportster and if you customize you will have one seriously cool bike that'll stand out in a crowd. Id personally go for a custom tracker look rather than a cafe racer as a tracker has a more comfortable riding position, but thats me. Why not come to the Toy Run in November, there will be thousands of bikes to oggle and you can get great ideas there, maybe even change your mind a few more times about what you want....[emoji16]
  16. Was such a beautiful morning in Gansbaai, took my son for a ride from my parents house to the harbour and back.[emoji1690] He has been bugging me lately to up our usuall 5km rides to 10km's as he wants to become fitter to win races......this from a 7y/o.....[emoji23]
  18. After the hellish wind died down overnight in Gansbaai I could finnaly go out for a ride this morning.
  19. That is looking in from the outside yes, much the same when looking in to BikeHub from the outside. I did say usually, but yes "they" are everywhere.[emoji85]
  20. Yes, we can have discussions from different viewpoint and opinions without getting our panties in a knot. We'll usually rather drink to it.[emoji16]
  21. No problem, do you research, kick as many tyres as you need to before you make your decision. I agree that the second hand market is filled with alot of rubbish, but there are some decent, well maintained bikes out there aswell. The right bike will cross your path when the time is right.[emoji106]
  22. Not sure what kind of riding you intend on doing Hairy, but I would also steer clear of Chinese bikes.Personally I'd also rather go for second hand Japanese bikes or if you're really into the look of that Crosby have a look at something like a Royal Enfield. https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-motorcycles-scooters/woodstock/royal-enfield-classic-500/1002780971440910023987409
  23. Some beautiful pics of what looks like an awesome trip![emoji108]
  24. Lol! Pretty much like that.[emoji23] I visited a friend this afternoon and he reminded me that my gravel bike he had borrowed a couple of months ago was still standing at his house.......I had forgotten I had this bike.......[emoji87] Now there's 4 at the house again.[emoji16]
  25. Hi en welkom Morne. Lyk na n ordentlike projek wat jy meer besig is. Soos hulle se "gaan groot of gaan huis toe". Hou ons op hoogte.[emoji106]
