  1. I intend on doing the same you did by replacing both my rims on my hardtail with wider ones at some stage to soften up the ride. This will be hoops only though. The two options I have in mind are either American Classic AM28's or the Rapide hoops if they have them available as hoops only options by then. At some stage when my older Novatec rear hub gives in replacing it will probably be a toss up between another Novatec or one of the Rapide rear hubs. I've had my eye on them for a while now and haven't heard any negative feedback on them. That says alot as here on Le Hub you'll hear negative feedback very quickly at the slightest hint of a problem with a product/service.
  2. @knersboy regarding your above post. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, I'd rather prefer a tight tyre rim combo like yours as it will seat better than a loose fitting tyre and you have far less chance of a tyre burping upon hard impact or when under inflated.
  3. I'm not entirely sure as I've only opened mine as far as youve come. But I think if you just clean that seal part where the inner goes into the outer before fastening the locking ring you should be good to go.
  4. In light of the above post I did a few ride on the GSXR and within a few months I realised I was use to the power again and becoming reckless by riding reckless and fast as if the roads were my racetrack. Started looking at alternative options and being an avid mountainbiker I inevitably became interested in adventure motorcycling. After extensive research and deciding what I really wanted/needed I ended up looking at something in the mid engine size market, something I could relatively comfortably pillion my wife along with but also do the odd funduro with. Was planning on buying a KLR once my GSXR was sold but then this bike came along ticking all the right boxes and at a price I couldn't let it go by at. So 3 weeks ago I collected my 1986 DR600 and what a bike it is.[emoji108] Second weekend of ownership the wife and I attended the anual Canola Run in Caledon having a blast of a time in the mudfest and last weekend I took my boy for a short Sunday trip up to Stettyn Dam for a quick fishing trip.
  5. I wouldn't worry to much about that wear, just clean it propperly and it should be good again. The Giant posts are very cheap so they dont really have many spare parts available except for a replacement cartridge and your cartridge is fine. Mine looks similar to yours and I just keep it clean and lube it with Brunox and it works for me.
  6. Saw earlier in the week that there's a MTB event at our local farmers market and since my wife is working decided to do the 5km with my boy. What a fun ride, he enjoyed it to bits except for a tumble in the parking lot before the race even started.....he knows now that loose gravel and front brakes don't go together.....[emoji16]
  7. Hi guy's, about 6 months ago I started rebuilding my Suzuki GSXR 750 SRAD that has been lying in parts for the past six years. Found a second bike with a blown motor to use as a donor for the rebuild. Got the bike assembled and running well for the most part. Still have to replace a few parts and do some cosmetic work but the bike is up and running again.
  8. Hi bud, things are going swimmingly....I can hardly keep my head above water these days.[emoji16]How you keeping? Still planning on coming your side to ride Table Mountain or Tokai Forrest some time, will drop you a PM round then, maybe you can show me around.
  9. Ditto on Goosebay's post Meezo. Even if you don't want to partake in the event you can always go ride the trails afterwards on Sunday, they charge R40 for a permit and its well worth it. I rode the new trails for the first time about a month ago and I was blown away by what they've quietly been building in the mountains over the past few years. Really great riding and views for dayyyyyyys! [emoji6]
  10. Well not today, the last time I rode was last week Saturday and I've been sick ever since. Hopefully I can get a quiet slow ride in over the weekend. Did the Red loop on the Klipspringer Trails near Gansbay last weekend. What a blast it was. I was advised to take the Red loop as it was supposed to be the most fun but didn't think much of it as it was only 12km long. Boy was I in for a surprise. The loop might be short but it is demanding with lots of climbing through beautiful fynbos. There ars loads of short punchy sections aswell as loads of technical bits over rocks and tight switchbacks. When you hit the top your blown away by this magnificent view of the valley below thst can be enjoyed from the comfort of a wooden bench on the hill. And then you descend back down, what a blast! Fast flowing singletrack with lots of jumps and berms and smoe more technical bits to keep you awake. I was amazed at what I found here, km apon km of purposefully built singletrack twisting between beautiful fynbos and the odd wildlife encounter thrown in the mix. What a gem these people have hidden away in the mountains behind Gansbay. [emoji108] My apologies, some of the pics wouldn't upload first time round so I had to load them again and now they are slightly out of place.[emoji85]
  11. Damn, sorry to hear that man. Hope she's okay and heals up quickly. [emoji123]
  12. So went out riding on the Klipspringer trails this morning and WOW!!! Was blown away by what's hiding in the mountains here behind Gansbay. Took the Red route that's only 12km long thinking it'll be a walk in the park but damn was I surprised! Challenging climbs and awesome downhills with jumps and berms znd views for days! I wont be able to make it to the event, but for those of you planning to come ride it you will definitely not be disappointed. ????
  13. No problem, also contacted Goosebay yesterday afternoon and he pointed me in the right direction to the trails.[emoji106]
  14. Who you riding with Tarod? How early?
  15. You won't be disappointed, these are some awesome trails.[emoji106]
  16. That last part exactly! You get what you pay for, GX is the cheaper SRAM drivetrain so you get cheaper shifting than the more expensive XO/XX components. XT is one of the better Shimano drivetrains so you get better (in terms of Shimano) shifting. Just because they cost the same doesn't put them in the same class. Apple's with apples........
  17. Oi! Is that you lurking outside in the bushes?[emoji6]
  18. IMHO SRAM has had the market on 1× drivetrain for many years, only downside to this is that SRAM is much more expensive than Shimano, if you compare apples with apples. If I were to go 1× I'd prefer SRAM, but if the choice was between GX and XT I'd choose XT everytime (with a Sunrace 11-50 cassette).
  19. Took my little guy out for a ride this afternoon on our local trails. He had to push a bit here and there on the ups, but when he hit the downs he had my heart beating faster. This little punk has no fear.
  20. Went for a road ride with a mate on Sunday. He broke the chain on his Mtb on Saturday so I lent him my newly built up gravel grinder to ride with. Afterwards he asked if he could borrow the bike for a few more days. I think his sold on the idea.[emoji4]
  21. Was too tired this morning to get up early so slept in a bit and set of a little later. Glad I decided to go riding as it turned into a beautiful day.
  22. Well might aswell take a pic of the only pole for a 1000km apparently. [emoji6]
  23. Out and about on our local trails again. Weather has been absolutely great these past few days with temps still at 21° at 7pm this afternoon. A few small streams around as the snow is still melting on the mountains.
  24. Not today, but yesterday. After attempting the same route on Monday, but having to cut my ride short due to flat light batteries I set out again yesterday with all lights charged.
