  1. Evening hubbers,

Recently had some interest for an ad posted on Gumtree. Buyers mo turned out to be quite repetitive. Here's the email we received:

    From: raymond korff (rkorff13@gmail.com)

    Hello ,

Thanks for the response, i am really interested buying this for my Son as a surprise gift for him,its Graduation that is coming soon only if you can assure me that everything is in order and it works fine,i am a petroleum engineer currently on a rig offshore i really want this to be a surprise gift for my Son so i wont let him know anything about this until it gets delivered to him , i am sure he will be more than happy with it.It will be secured paying via Payfast as i'm on rig offshore. So let me know if you have an account with payfast so i can make the payment.

    note well:

Pick up agent will come for the pick up as soon as i have made the payments, i would have loved to talk to you on phone but I work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to bad weather, we can only communicate with our base for now.

    Thanks

Same story for a kettle on another site:

Heads up for a similar story" / name.

Was contacted by a very "nice" sounding guy today.  He was responding to an OLX add of mine. As soon as I read his email I knew something was fishy.  Googled "payfast and scam" and top of the list of searches is a post from hubland. I was shocked to see that his email is almost exactly the same as the one quoted above. My goodness this is more than 3 years later and the words has not changed.  This is the second time in a week that I was saved from a scammer by Hubland.  First this https://www.bikehub....100/?source=lfp  and now this time.  Thanks to all the ever vigilant hubbers.

  2. Hope this is the right place to put my questions.

Looking at getting an Android TV box, but there are so many of them and all of them have mixed reviews. Besides the obvious Minix or Nvidia what budget options are there? Seeing that I am testing the water I don't twant to spend more than R1200. I found a MS8 on bidorbuy for R1000. 2GB ROM, 8 GB RAM with kitkat 4.4.

I have a HD TV and don't forsee getting a 4kTV in the near future. My only real requirement is an interface that is quick to respond and easy to use. Hate it if apps take forever to load or if I struggle to navigate in an app. Not a gamer, wil mostly use it for netflix/showmax/redbulltv and internet browsing. I might try kodi.

Thus 3 questions, what is the benefit of 2GB ROM over 1GB and 8GB RAM over 16GB and kitkat 4.4 vs 5 or 6. Based on my needs indicated above will 1GB/8GB/kitkat be sufficient.

Lasly, what entry level boxes would you recommend?

    Thanks to the Oracles hubbers

  3. Hi Hubbers, especially those in the PTA East Area

Please support this event.  It is a fundraiser for SunRise Road NPC. They do several charitable initiatives and projects such as a Afterschool Care and learner support, Trauma Support, Assisting people in finding jobs etc. They focus on the PTA east area.  The MTB event is more fun orientated than race (racing snakes are also welcome) and is for whole family.

Have a look at their website

  4. Visted my parents this weekend and did a easy ride between Welkom and OD. Used to ride my bike from OD to Welkom to go and watch a movie (without my parents approval). My bike gave me so much freedom to explore and to escape from all the stuff that bothers a young teenager. 30 years later I still use my bike to explore and to escape from the stresses in the world. Amen to such a privilege.

Going down Naude's Nek in the Southern Berg on recent Race to Rhodes

Naude' Nek is next on my to do list. My wife's brother has a farm close to Elliot and I try do some MTB everytime we visit. Did the R393 today from Barkley Pass to Barkley East. The best was Lapa Munik pass to Ugie which we did last year.

  6. Some lesson I have learned

Lesson 1: Don't underestimate the full. The step-up from lite to full is a big one

Lesson 2: Trail running is not the same as running on tar. Also, Camelbak defintely next time

Lesson 3: No matter what, enjoy it. I realy appreciated the chatting with the other runners

If all goes well, I will see you the Sasol events

  7. Tough as hell. Mountain goat territory. Spend way to much energy on the rocky MTB climbs. Nearly died during the run. More watering points needed during the run. The 3rd one was without water by the time I arrived there. Thanks to the lady that gave me a sip of her water. You were a lifesaver.

Well organised. Nice vibe. Will have to train much more next time.

MTBc, did you survive the run.

  8. Got my trisuit from fluidlines this week. Delivered within 2days. They also advised me on which one to get. Great service.

Doing my 1st full Xterra. Done some Lites in the past. The swim was useally my biggest fear, but I have learned that it is the run that kills you. Hou bene hou. See you all next weekend. Lets hope it is much cooler

  9. Some old and some recent pics.

This one is from June this year in the Eastern Cape, Lapa Munik Pass (Bastervoet pas) between Barkley and Ugie. Going back there this weekend. Can't wait.

Last weekend on Olifantshoekpas close to Little Switzerland. The R74 between Harrismith and Bergville is nerve wrecking.

What a privilege to be able to do these rides

  10. Not sure if we talking about the same guys, in the 80km A-bunch there was a guy that almost got klapped for not holding his line. This was my first road race and I thought this was a bit uncalled for as no one was really holding their line in the bunch.

Yip, AM bunch. Some agro guys in the bunch. If you want to wheelsuck, you need to be alert.

On a lighther note. Why did the bunch not wait for me on Vrekpoort. I was screaming, crying and at some stage praying, but nobody wanted to wait for me. I was alone at the turn back to the finish. Was is not for the young lady and her encouraging words, I probably would have still been battling with the wind.
