  2. biltong maker for a night or 2... Or if you have a floor fan, point it upwards and put the shoes upside down on it...
  3. Bikebox company boxes are probably best bang for buck. You can also make your own out of correx for about R500. It is very easy The bikebox is just nice because of the protective inserts and the way it all folds down. I have done a few expeditions on mine and about 8 flights local and international
  4. At World Champs, on the hike through to the paddle from Somerset East, that m'fer of a hike. Just after the high mountain misty night we were going down through a valley towards the road by the oxwagon camp and there was a high fence with a ladder over and someone had laid a deuce(lets call it 2 days of maurten gels or at least a few thousand calories worth of turd) but they had laid it to rest at the bottom of the ladder right there. I was absolutely disgusted. Couldn't take 2 mins to bury it or kick dirt over even. Saw the same in Scotland, coming down off the Five sisters of Kintail and one of the Euro teams were about 400m to the right of us, one guy without stopping, on the move dropped a turd didn't even look back or even wipe...
  5. do they even know you are eating 300grams of carbs an hour and spending 4grand a day on Maurten if you don't throw the empty sachet on the floor? Don't get me going on marathons and water sachets.....
  6. moving a mtb to drop bars is an expensive exercise, shifters, brakes, sometimes derailleur.
  7. we live in a country of "I" specialists... Me, myself and I... No one gives a second thought to anyone, they will just complain when the next mtb race can't use those trails and climbs again. Some p***** organised a road race east of Pretoria decided to spray paint litter zone on the tar and put up litter zone signs for his event last year. Except this was on the R104, so cars thought this was a great thing and were dumping trash along there for weeks after the event. We as a community went and cleaned it up and cleaned the paint of the road.
  8. supercaliber with a 38tooth up front if it will fit would be my advice
  9. heard similar, it is quite scary though same as when you go and look at average times, parkrun average is 42mins
  10. listen he was probably just angry because he had to drive a hilux bakkie all day, you would be too...
  11. Raichon is an adventure racing legend, AR world champ as part of 400 Team in 2024, tough as woodpecker lips and really shines when the going gets tough...
  12. Honestly just rent one, i have done 3 half iron distance events and usually just rent from Xterra wetsuits. rent it for 3 weeks, 2 weeks before the event jump in a pool and check where it will rub you so you know where to lube up and then send it back the day after the race. They are really great to deal with and you get the right tool for the job
  13. how bad can discs be if almost all mtb from circa 2008 have been running them fine
  14. you can also just run a sram SX cassette which uses a shimano HG freehub. It weighs a bi more but saves money and saves needing to change the whole freehub. My spare wheels I use for training I run that setup with the GX axs derailleur, works perfectly.
  15. on other fronts, Atlas Mountain race starts in a few hours time, a few South Africans on the start line, first 17km is 1100m of elevation gain, needless to say it will be a big warm up. looks a bit wet and cold at the start
  16. Just an idea, from someone building custom AI stuff now and going deep down the rabbit hole. Build an MCP server like ragflow, then take the data export out of intervals.icu and then build your chatgpt agent on your own history of training data....
  17. His entire paycheck is based off of videos and photos of him riding and wining events. That is the entire reason for sponsoring athletes, to sell stuff. Photos and videos are part of selling stuff. Same goes for actors, if you don't want to have to deal with paparazzi, you can choose to be a librarian or auditor or something else that avoids it.
  18. At the end of the day he had 2 brake levers in his hands, at any stage he could have sat up, eased on the brakes off to the side safely, let the amateurs go and given himself space to ride in a safe way...
  19. ya i gasped at the price of an OEM cable to buy as a spare, ±R600. The aftermarket ones don't engage so well unfortunately
  20. Please go have a read up before making bold statements. Sram GX AXS non T type(ie the type on a normal hanger/dropout) has a clutch overload system built into it. So when it takes an impact it disengages the gears and lets the derailleur take a softer impact by allowing it to move out the way, before returning to the correct gear and continuing as usual. Have I tested it? Yes, real world tests. At silk road we had a hike a bike that was over 30km long over a very remote mountain pass from Kok-Art to the Chinese border road. We crossed a fast flowing rocky river more times than anyone managed to count. With a 26kg bike and steep rocky places dragging your bike over an area not even hikers bother going, the derailleur took a lot of impacts. I know of at least 2 cable **** riders who changed dropouts when we exited the valley. I have deep gouges out of the metal on the AXS but it carried on shifting perfectly. Then a few 100km later we had another hike a bike from the top of tosor pass. Same thing except this time shorter and in the dark for me. Not one of the AXS riders changed a haner/dropout. In fact I am still on the stock one the bike came with in 2022... Watch the video below where they literally hit the derailleur with a hammer. https://www.sram.com/en/life/stories/10-things-you-should-know-about-gx-eagle-axs#:~:text=Does your derailleur protect itself, and safeguard against potential damage.
  21. not somewhat arbitrary lines, those all align with surveyed property boundaries. You can view property boundaries below for reference. https://csggis.drdlr.gov.za/portal/apps/experiencebuilder/experience/?id=a9a8f908e82c443b9cb7bede69f5985e
  22. Unpopular opinion but try a good bike fit and then doing some core and neck strength work.
  23. Cook the squirrel over a pinewood fire. I don't see an issue? 100% of our gardens, pets and immigrants are outside of protected areas
  24. and you will never buy another dropout/hanger ever again...
  25. The Dragons back route on bikepacking.com might help you out. Also check your timing, Drakensberg in winter can get festive and Lesotho is even worse especially in the Eastern side...
