I've just ordered some of this to try.

I ordered the Sisu drink. They delivered within 72 hours. Used it today on a training run. Just the drink to fuel an easy 2 hour run. I mixed it with 8 scoops so about 80 grams of carbs. Not too sweet and I felt really good. This will be my drink of choice for a while.
    And, it’s relatively well priced.

  2. The Duracell batteries have a special coating to prevent kids from putting them in their mouths. Check the packaging and buy those without the baby icon on the card. For some reason it makes the batteries work intermittently in Garmin HRMs.

  3. This forum should be renamed - People are Idiots!!

For context, I'm a cyclist and runner. I'm riding CTCT and training for Two Oceans.

On Sunday I ran in the official Two Oceans training run - HB to Noordhoek and back, over Chappies. The runners at times were three and four abreast in the road when there was often space to run on the kerb.

There were some cyclists three abreast in solid black kit with no taillights in the misty conditions at 6:30 am.

There was a tjop in a Porsche sitting on a car's rear bumper, revving like he was about to start the GP at Monza.

On my drive back to Sea Point on the way back, there was a solo cyclist through Bakoven riding with no hands, while chatting on his phone.

There was an idiot who opened the rear passenger door of their Uber without looking who nearly ended up on my bonnet in Camps Bay.

There was a TT rider in full aero position going through Clifton.

There were countless pedestrians who stepped out between the cars without a thought for bikes/cars/motorcyclists etc.

I'm constantly amazed by the sheer stupidity of people and the lack of awareness of ourselves in space and how that space impacts on others.

Stay safe out there. But be aware that we all have a responsibility to allow others to be safe too.

  4. I was at the finish in Paris in 2019. It was incredible. You will not believe how fast these guys ride!!! On the cobbles!!

Try to find a stage where they loop around, so you can see more than just a 60 second blitz of speed and colour.

Apparently, a TT Day is also cool as they come past continuously.

  5. I can give you my real-world experience...

I'm a 7,000 km per year cyclist and 1,500 km per year runner. I was training in the Karoo for Kilimanjaro in July last year, when I experienced pain in my chest and down my left arm into my hand. I was fortunate to be hiking with a specialist nurse, who quickly identified what was happening. I drove for 4 hours back to Bloemfontein, where the ICU informed me that I had a 100% blockage on one of my arteries. The following morning, I had an angiogram followed by inserting a stent. Three days later I was back home and advised to take it easy for two weeks.

Sixty days later, I summitted Kilimanjaro!

I continue to ride and run. Last month I completed the Cape Town Marathon and qualified for Two Oceans.

In my case, the blame lies squarely in my genes... I was never going to avoid the heart attack as every male in my family had experienced one by the age of 50. I was lucky, having gotten to 58...

You, like me, have the great advantage of being fit. That should mean that your heart muscle is going to thank you for helping it get more blood to pump. It's the guys who've done no exercise and are 30 kg's overweight who struggle to get back to a normal life after having a heart attack.

Trust your doctor and be grateful that you've been diagnosed prior to feeling that awful pain!!!

Feel free to DM me if you'd like to chat.

  6. I'm looking for advice and recommendations on which of these two indoor bikes are the better option.

I've been a committed indoor trainer for over ten years, having always had a dedicated space for a bike room. Now, we're moving to Cape Town and the new house doesn't have a garage or any other space for me to use for training and bike storage. (Watch this space for some lekker bikes being sold... ) So, I'll need to steal a corner of my study (occasionally a guest room) to fit a training solution.

I like the indoor bike solution - clean, all-in-one and compact. I also like the idea that I can match it to my TT or road bike settings.

They look like they're pretty similar in spec. The built-in display and tablet holder on the Tacx seem smart. The movement on the Kickr seems like a good option.

Real-world knowledge and experience of both would be hugely appreciated.

Are you a part of any of the 'teams' like EMBARK, ATC, Multisport etc?

I'm sure they have their routes, but in reality I see those dudes with starships for handlebars tapping out a rhythm all over the place.

Flat/rolling roads are obviously the best, so I used to do Muizenberg to Cape Point, round the back to Misty cliffs and back (I found that replicated the PE conditions pretty accurately)

I wasn't part of any team/club, but spent enough time stretched over the TT bike

Good luck, Tri is fun. It just got a hugely expensive and very repetitive for me. There are only so many times I can pay to ride/run the same routes before they get pretty boring.....

I'm not a club member but should probably look at that. I'm coming down from Joburg, having been a long-term Cycle Lab member. I'm quite comfortable on the skinny bike in the Cradle.

I'm new to the TT bike so nervous to do busy roads and fast down hills, hence my search for quieter and (maybe) safer roads???

  8. I'm an early adopter of indoor training, having done more than 30,000 km on my IDT over the last 10 years...  😵

I've used Zwift, Sufferfest (Wahoo), Rouvy, TrainerRoad and Training Peaks. I ride indoors 3 days a week, most of the year.

TrainerRoad is without doubt the best in terms of training plans and the introduction of Adaptive Training has elevated it above the others even further. If you're looking to free ride, Zwift is fun. If you're looking to train with a specific goal in mind, TR is brilliant, assuming that you can stick to the plans.

Having said all that, I'm currently using Training Peaks, because I'm working towards 70.3 and the multisport environment is much better on TP.

OK, can somone plesae explain to me the "solar" gimmick. How long are you going to ride so that a fully charged battery won't last? No amateur weekend warrior that I know of.

    Perhaps those Munga lunatics.

Got a 530 just recently, so that'll have to last me until it dies.

I recently bought the Forerunner 955 Solar and the battery just seems to last forever. Occasionally, I plug it in to get it back to 100% charge (it takes less than an hour), but it's no longer something I have to think about daily as I did with my Apple Watch. I wear the Forerunner 24 hours a day. When I'm in the market for my next Edge, I'll certainly consider buying the solar option.
