  1. There are some great carb free muesli recipes around. Using seeds and nuts and stuff. I use that when in a rush, usually with yoghurt. Standard breakfast is poached eggs with spinach
  2. Thinking that eating fat will make you fat is science of the same level,as thinking that eating a lion will make you brave.
  3. I feel huge sympathy for him and his family. His wife, young child, mom and dad and brother all suffer through this. Hope it turns out OK for everyone.
  4. That pisses me off. I know his dad. Know the family. Great people. I love watching him race
  5. Go check out the coffee thread. Lots of good info there
  6. Saddle fit is about width. Your sit bones need to make contact with the saddle in the correct place. Then there is fitness. If you are unfit you tend to sit like a lump on the saddle. Even a lazy boy can hurt your bum in that case. If you are actually pedaling with any commitment your weight is largely on your feet. As you press on the pedals it unweights your bum. If you don't press on the pedals yor bum then presses on the saddle. Pain results
  7. I have always felt a bit sorry for the guys that get fat adapted then suffer when they cheat. I really believe I'm not carb intolerant so a cheat is OK. Then last night after I got off the trainer I ate a pizza. Oh man. Never again. I felt like hell. Feel I'll thinking about it. Upset stomach, night sweats, bloating, bad dreams. Today I am flat and flipping starving. On the race thing I still eat carbs when racing or training hard. I now use a half half mix of honey and espresso. Going to try half half condensed milk and espresso this weekend. I seriously think a carb breakfast before training or racing is a bad idea. Carbs are OK once you are sweating and straight after you finish. No other time.
  8. What!!!! You gonna get fat and have a heart attack!!!! You should be eating whole wheat bread with margarine!!!! Oh wait..........
  9. Hahaha. Those Edenvale cyclists are seriously dodgy that's a fact.
  10. I know this is not really interesting to anyone other than myself but the police called today. They are going to send someone around to do an identikit sketch. I got a good look at the guy and remember quite a lot of detail. I'm just adding this comment to give credit to the police in this. It seems they really are trying to do something. It's good to see.
  11. I'm thinking I don't go down Atlas at all. I head back on that road that heads west from atlas and weaves on the Southern side of the airport. The one where the aircraft just about smack your helmet with their landing gear as they come in to land. I will have to add something to make up the distance though. Perhaps from Carnival head south to Heidelberg then back. What a pain in the butt. Thanks for the good wishes everyone. You really do feel a bit lonely when you are on your own and a bloke rushes at you with a pistol.
  12. Near the hotel. On the northern side of the freeway. Haven't been there for a while and I thought the road might be fixed. I knew it was risky but I figured I would fly down the hill and risk it. Then with the road closed I had to climb back up the bloody hill. Legs dead from SBR on Saturday so I was cruising pretty slowly. I knew I was stuffed when I saw the bloke. Anyway what to do. I don't mind riding with mates but I do most of my riding on my own. I like riding on my own. I will just find a new route I guess. Amazing how fast I was on the ride home after the mugging though. Hahahaha
  13. Thanks all. Yes I'm cool. Exactly Joe but the bit before where the road is dug up. The airport side I guess you could say
  14. I guess the title says it all. 11:30 this morning. A guy with a 9mm. Got my phone. Left me with my bike. At least it's insured
  15. I make my own almond flour. I have seen it for sale in health stores. I think the problem is this lifestyle takes you out of your comfort zone in many ways. You cannot even look at supermarket shelves in the same way. Perhaps you need to even change where you shop. You can certainly start skipping entire sections of the supermarket. I also think you can't just always find equivalents. Why do you need a sweet sticky barbecue sauce for example? It was suggested I use butter on my steak and it works a treat. It really is a change in mindset.
  16. This is a bit off from the mainstream LCHF thing but it is in agreement with what a lot of people are saying about the need for carbs when exercising at high intensity levels. I have this fondness for making my own food. I sometimes eat bread but only if I make it myself. Same with pasta. Every three months or so I eat pasta and make it from scratch. I also make icecream occasionally. With that philosophy I have been unhappy with my on bike nutrition. I drink only water on the bike but have been using gels and so on when needing that extra boost. Today I tried making my own gels. I mixed espresso and honey. Half and half. Put it in one of those little bottle dispensers you get for using with gels. Went down easy. Very palatable and no stomach issues. I'm going to try it with condensed milk as well. Tastes better than the gels, works out cheaper.
  17. I started late so it's cool. Last year I did my best ever loop at SBR. 2:08:30. I am hoping to get under that by en end of this year. I will be 54 at the end of the year so I guess the end must be close.
  18. Also battled with cholesterol my whole life. Went as high as 12. Doc Thought I would die in his surgery. I was a vegetarian at the time. A little overweight. Now I'm thin and fit and don't check cholesterol anymore. These people cannot even work out if butter is good for you or a poison. How am I supposed to sort out the BS from the facts if they have no clue what's up.
  19. It actually really pees me off. Been eating rubbish for years and a bunch of crooks have sold us on it. I remember having to switch to margarine as a kid. It was disgusting. All for what.
  20. Because you live in the Cape. Joburg in winter even the water gets crispy it's so dry. Actually would like to try the rusks. We have been making carb free muesli. Brilliant. It keeps me full for hours. Eat it with home made yoghurt.
  21. I like your attitude. No bitching and complaining. Move on to a solution. Refreshing
  22. Escapee. You have a good eye. I like the shot with the bike but.... Please don't take this badly. Chill a little with the saturation slider.
  23. There is another thread on the go about sick Hubbers. Seems quite a lot of sick people around at the moment. It got me thinking. How are you lot doing on the LCHF diet with respect to winter illnesses? So far I am doing pretty well. Not a sniffle
  24. Yes it's good on broccoli and cauliflower. Never tried it on steak. I refuse to put it in my coffee. Currently not eating sweet potato. Trying to drop a little more weight so even that is out at the moment. Will also try it on an Omlette.
  25. The butter thing is great news really. But I used to love it on potato and on bread. Can't remember when I last ate a potato and haven't made bread in about 2 months. So what do I do with this butter now.
