  1. I have been using a honey and espresso mix for a while now. It's great. Espresso and condensed milk is also mighty fine. Cheap too compared to gels.
  2. There is an app for the Aeropress. It's quite nifty. Free with the option to buy additional recipes but comes with about 7. I am an iPad user but I assume you can get it for android as well
  3. Not all of us are fans of Nespresso. Cost of machine 8/10 Convenience 10/10 Cost of coffee 5/10 Quality of coffee 5/10 Fun. 2/10
  4. One and a half weeks and it's the Fish River Canyon hike for me followed by a week in the Richtersveld. Fuji mirrorless for the hike. Eighty megapixel Leaf Aptus on a Cambo for the Richterveld. I cannot wait. Really need this break. Hope to have something worth posting on this thread when I get back
  5. My understanding is Contador was undone by an energy bar. Bike broke in the crash not a crash because the bike broke. Watching these pros and how they hammer those bikes bunny hopping and powering over cobbles I am amazed how seldom bikes do break. It is reassuring to me
  6. Crashed my one frame at least 5 times that I can remember. My medical aid most likely has a clearer memory than I do. Managed to break ribs, collar bone plated and lots of missing skin. Frame is still fine.
  7. How about this one where you say the dog will want to play or BITE but the owner must be reprimanded.
  8. You are better off with smart recording in most cases. It isn't based on time or distance and places points more frequently depending on how fast you are moving and and often you change direction, I'm not sure about your Garmin but all the units I have owned have had an option for smart recording. It's always worked best for me
  9. I like dogs, and own dogs, but seriously. If a dog has you by the ankle will you smack the dog or the owner? Me I'll smack the dog in an effort to defend myself. Deal with the owner once the immediate danger has been dealt with. Let's just keep it real here.
  10. Some days I am positive about this diet other days not so much. At the moment I wonder how as a youngster I battled to put on weight and was embarresed at how skinny I was. I would eat anything and drank beer by the barrel. Today I feel convinced I that the trick is just eating less and doing more. Who cares what you eat and who cares what activity as long as it is something. I just have to keep reminding myself how I can do a hard three hours on water. That is a new one for me. I am busy putting a book together. Well I am starting to write "my book" been wanting to do it for years. I kept a diary of a very long tour I did years back. That will form the foundation of the book. I am keen to see what I was eating and how I felt. Pretty sure not much fat was involved.
  11. Did this sucker punch throwing dude say he was trying for a strava PB or is that an assumption? Just wondering because seems to me there are many reasons to behave like a peophol and strava is just one of them. I quite like strava myself but I still manage to slow down and ask the MTB guys at the reserve if they are OK stopped on the side of the road. Why are there so many MTB in Suikerbos these days anyway? Oh look a squirrel.
  12. I don't think so PrinceVlad but that's just my opinion. Your cardio vascular system is not the only thing to get conditioned. If your heart rate is elevated sure I buy that you are working that system but if it is not strong enough to work your muscles then I think you are not getting a proper workout.
  13. Apply for a TUE. Why not. Them are the rule. On the other hand can you imagine the cluster ,um, shag, if every entrant to the Argus of 94 that was on meds applied for a TUE. It would be loads of fun.
  14. Never ever. Not even one time. Coffee is a serious thing. I would rather put on 20kg and and ride a MTB bike in green tartan baggies. You cam mess with anything but not my coffee
  15. You have to be a bit special to tuck a shirt into Lycra. Seriously
  16. Did a short tour from Daresalaam to Moz a few years back. Decided Lycra wasn't cool and the locals might get wound up about it so went the baddies route. It rained. A lot. For days. I will never forget the feeling of 38C with pouring rain and mud everywhere and in everything. Baggies clinging to my legs drenched in water and coated in mud. Never ever wore baggies ever again. I don't care who stares or says what.
  17. You can cook with it. I'm not fond of the flavour when it's used like that though. I add it to my carb free muesli. Lovely in that. It might sound gross but I just chew it straight. A tablespoon at a time. When I have a hunger that won't go away I eat a tablespoon of it and chase it down with 500ml of water with a little unsweetened lemon juice. Takes hunger pangs away.
  18. Keep us all posted either way Alexander. It all adds to our store of knowledge
  19. Totally agree with no carbs before the ride. I start a bit early with carbs for a long ride, like after about 15 minutes. At the moment I am experimenting with espresso and honey in a 50 50 mix and that's working well. Also with condensed milk with a little water so it's not quite so thick. Also working very well. Banana is great of course. I decided to go without the scientifically formulated stuff. It's sugar after all. Properly adapted I think you should be able to do at least an hour with just water. I can pretty much handle any intensity for the first hour. No flat spots. After that I eat carbs so I can maintain intensity.
  20. Yes and just another study saying another thing. I just read a study done in Europe that claims to prove the opposite thing. I go by what I feel.
  21. Trying not to think of food at the the moment Dale. I dropped 6 Kg this year and now would like to lose another 2kg. While I find it easy to keep stable with this diet dropping unwanted kg causes me the same suffering it always did.
  22. It is a lovely pic. Golden Gate if I am not mistaken. On the loop through the reserve. Turn right off the main road to Harrismith. A nice ride if you like hills
  23. Same thing with my Simonelli grinder. Much more predicable now
  24. People with guns like iPhones I discovered.
  25. I think your weight is the problem with your blood pressure. I was around your weight and on medication for blood pressure. Lost 20kg and blood pressure is perfect without meds.
