I currently ride a Giant Anthem X 29 and am really enjoying it, but if I was out shopping for new bikes, I would definitely consider those Scotts. I quite like the look and spec. Have yourself measured up (Ergofit) and see which bike's geometry suits you better.

I just got a pair of Hope Tech Evo X2 with floating rotors. I have only done one ride with them, but thought they were great. I had Avid Elixir's before that, and had no real issues with them. Its just that have a bit of a Hope fetish (Hope headset, hubs and rear skewer) The Hope's are about 125g heavier...

For the Hope clamp to work with Shimano XT I-Spec, you need the Shimano XTR version. http://www.hopetech.com/webtop/modules/_repository/documents/SHIMANOshiftermounts.pdf

Some of the wheels allow you to convert the front hub from a std QR to QR15 (ZTR & American classic for example) What sort of budget do you have and where have you looked so far? There are several wheel sets for sale here on The Hub.

I got a standard 38-26 XT crankset and replaced the 26 with a Shimano XT M770 10sp 24t ring. It is quite a jump between rings, but it seemed to work fine. Sram has some sort of conversion kit for their 2x10 cranks where you buy a new spider and smaller rings with bashring. I agree. I had such trouble with my XT hubs - I had 2 rear hubs replaced under warrantee. I am on my second pair of Hope hubs and love them.

I had my first ride with 2x10 yesterday. I thought it was fantastic! More usable gears per chainring, so much less worrying about crosschaining etc I seemed to get a lot less chain slap, so my ride was much quieter. I have 38-24 rings with 11-36 cassette on a 29'er It's almost the same as 22x32x44 with 11-34 on my 26" bike (well, on the climbs anyway...) I was interested to note that my 2x10 gruppo wasnt much lighter than the 3x9. Maybe 50g?

That should make up for a mediocre season!

I have Arch EX on Hope hubs with Pillar spokes (the stock Arch EX wheelset would have been lighter though) @ 70kg, you should be fine with Crest rims - ZTR Crest wheelset has a weight limit of 85kg
