Wasn't the taxi's fault from what I understand. News from hospital: Compression fractures in my spine, chipped off a piece of bone in one of my vertebrae, 10 stitches in my chin, 7 in my knee. Too much pain to walk - staying overnight for pain management.

I hear your concern - Thank you. I am reasonably familiar with the area (As a regular holiday maker, not resident) According to my RidewithGPS route, I ride about 20km on the N2 itself. From Plett (Bitou river), I will go up past Keurbooms to Kurland where I overnight. Then its Natures Valley and Bloukraans to Coldstream and then 10km to Storms River for the next sleep over. The next day I will hit 'The Old Plett Rd' to St Francis Bay

My wife is dropping me off in Oudtshoorn on her way to Plett. I will then follow the Cross Cape route to Plett and then head up to Crags, Storms River and meet the family in St Francis.

So, did everyone read the letter from DC organisers regarding the cancellation ? I hope that everyone who was angry/upset/disappointed feels a bit better now that we have heard their side .

I finished watching last night. Great stuff! Ends with a massive cliff hanger for the story to carry on with in next instalment called 'Into The Deep' which comes out next year.

Depending on exactly which model of fork you are looking at, probably between 300 to 400g difference. What are the two bikes in question ? Sounds like they are two very different machines (trail vs XC race). There will also be a difference in weight of the whole bike, so the fork weight alone wouldn't/shouldn't be the deciding factor.

It's much easier for them to defend a softer more responsible choice than to be organisers of an event where some tragic event occurred. But they get it in the neck either way.

The weather cleared after a short while and we all jumped in cars and went for a drive to survey the drama and damage on the route - there was very little of either. There were a LOT of cyclists out on the road and many did the whole course. Kudos to them! So, after a short while, we all felt very frustrated with the situation and with ourselves. We would have felt much better if we had gone for a ride. Our excuse was that we were still at our cottages when the race was cancelled (after 2 delays). Were had 10km of dirt road from the N2. If we were kitted and in Swellendam, it would have been much easier to go for a spin. I am sure that there are many other frustrated cyclists. Hopefully none that are too angry. At the time (after sheeting rain and lightning for most of the night), the decision felt right. We were quite relieved to not have to head out in the rain and hope that the lightning would stop. But. the weather cleared and we saw no reasons to cancel the race (we didn't drive the whole route, so could have missed the real storm damage). Hind sight is great though, isn't it ?
