  1. It will be interesting to see how this changes the bike industry. The gravel bike genre will be split into racing and touring, much like the MTB crowd is XC, Enduro & Downhill with very different equipment for each.
  2. Yep, cuts a guy off. Tells him to Eff Off when he hoots and then brake checks him. That's a pretty aggressive opening scene! And then he feared for his life, so felt the need for his gun. But Ja. " Merica! "
  3. So, nobody really paid much attention to this particular incident, but things really got worse from there with Egan vs the bus. Then Rivera also binned it: (No detail on how though) https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brandon-rivera-in-same-hospital-as-egan-bernal-after-second-ineos-crash-in-colombia/ And then Imogen Cotter was hit by a car in Spain. I imagine it was similar to the first Bernal/Carapaz scenario https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/imogen-cotter-hit-by-driver-of-car-while-training-in-spain/
  4. https://thulestore.co.za/thule-paramount-backpack-27l-3148 Online Exclusive price of R3200.00 That's a lot better than R5k, but still a lot of money for a fancy backpack...
  5. You get saddle bags, and then you get saddle bags... 🤡
  6. Snowpiercer Season 3 just started
  7. Wasn't he also an early investor in Uber? I seem to remember he did well on that. After he paid back all the legal fees and settlements, he was a bit low on cash and seems to be doing OK now.
  8. From the comment section: Moderately close call and idiotic driver but this article grossly exaggerates the closeness of this call.
  9. I am loving all the new bikes and tech, but feel very despondent when I know that availability (around the world) is a huge issue. As I read the press releases, articles and reviews, I wonder 'what's the point?' At the same time, I know that the internet would be empty and boring without the marketing machines pumping out this content. And then there is the cost of all these beautiful new bits and pieces... Inflation, high demand, low supply and exchange rate is killing my wallet! OK, and then, while I am on a mission: I don't get why this radar and light system with an external battery is such a thing. Garmin Varia front and rear looks a lot neater! And 350 lumens for the front light doesn't seem like enough either.
  10. It may sound like a schlepp, but its offset by the times that the sealant does its job (or I plug & bomb the tyre) and I don't have to stop and change a tube on the side of the road. Its also offset by the lower pressure (more comfort and grip) and fewer pinch flats. Patching an inner tube is not dramatically less of a mission than patching the tyre.
  11. Thanks for the heads-up I ordered a pair of 25mm TL for my wife's bike My post was referring to the new updated fancier S version of the TL.
  12. I am currently running a set of Pirelli Cinturato 28mm tubeless after two sets of GP5000 TL. They seem pretty good so far. My wife is running the Goodyear Eagle F1 25mm tubeless which are riddled with punctures that we had to plug (external and mushroom), so have been quite unimpressed with those.
  13. The 5000 S TR seems to be available locally (in small batches) As beautiful as they are, I wont be getting them any time soon. They are more expensive than my car tyres! https://evobikes.co.za/product/continental-grand-prix-5000-s-tr-700-x-25c-transparent-edition/ Edit: link corrected
  14. Pirelli's Smartube has made its arrival in SA. As expected, pricing is a bit eye watering. I don't think that these are intended to be all day every day inner tubes (or perhaps they are). If I was brave enough to buy one, it would be because its small in my roadie jersey pocket tool pouch as a spare tube. https://evobikes.co.za/?s=smartube&post_type=product&type_aws=true&aws_id=1&aws_filter=1&awscat=Form%3A1+Filter%3AAll These are not puncture proof as per this thread's title.
  15. What a great experience! Well done. I rode solo from Oudtshoorn to St Francis just before X-Mas. My favourite sections were the foresty bits between George and Storms River. You should try and do those bits some time. I have plans this year to do the whole Cross Cape Route, but with mates and on a gravel bike. Going solo has its perks, but it would be nice to share the experience. And my Camber was a bit of a tank. Very comfortable, but heavy and a tad cumbersome so a gravel bike his high up on my list of priorities.
  16. Yep. That'll buff right out
  17. Was a BMW, sword and a Dachshund involved ?
  18. I saw this in someone's house last week It's going to be my new Zoom background
  19. Is the series worth watching ?
  20. On the phone, having a smoke and finishing her make up with kids in the back - that was the most impressive multi-tasking I have seen.
  21. I used my 530 for a few days of navigation recently. On several occasions, it told me that i needed to do a u-turn instead of a left or right turn. That was quite disconcerting on straight roads into the Karoo. The Climb Pro was also quite out of sync with the climbs. By several hundred meters some times. More silly than disconcerting. I blamed it on the forest sections interrupting signal. As mentioned elsewhere, the auto brightness function is useless. That is switched off. Battery life is good though
  22. Crags to St Francis. Natures Valley is always special. Bloukrans has become a country lane. The rest of the route wasn't really photogenic because of the rain (and lack of scenery).
  23. The gruppo I bought from Merlin arrived in boxes like that. I didn't think anything of it except that its less non recyclable packaging to throw away.
  24. Knysna to Crags. Those forest sections are special and the views from the top of each climb are incredible! It got hot quickly though!
