  1. So the same as last time then? Cold, wet, muddy. I would suggest a hardtail if you have a choice….that last bit on a drop bar bike was torture in the mud after getting through 99% . Also, bring an extra water bottle and lube so you can clean your drivetrain. Dont try to stay dry….you’ll only end up keeping the water and mud IN haha. Please stop washing your bibs in OMO……also, wet it, put it on, bend over in front of a mirror. If you can see that your starfish needs bleaching…get a new bib please.
  2. Did he test and dash? Or was it a scam proof of payment? Sucks. Probably not his real name?
  3. Also: “Heavy feet, light hands” As an ex-roady….keep this front of mind every time you are bombing down some single track, it will become muscle memory soon enough. You’ll be surprised how much better you’ll ride and how much more in control you’ll be when you let the bike move under you.
  4. Let them find out for you at the distributor: https://www.paragontech.co.za/product/wolf-tooth-tanpan-sh11-universal-tanpan-sh11-inline/ i had one not too long ago but sold it with a bike. Worked great. Had it hooked up to 105 11 speed shifters, shimano XT m8000 rear mech with an 11-46 casette. ps, wolftooth sells, ships direct to SA via ups or dhl. You obviously just need to buy enough stuff to justify the shipping cost.
  5. Yes, silver bar. When i feel like it ill slowly start replacing all the parts in raw cnc alu look lol. Chainring is already ps i was super miffed to learn that there were no silver Pikes in the country either🤣
  6. Im sorry to say but i hate dealing with them as the distro so much that all my Hope purchases have gone through a middleman so that they can deal with their tardiness instead. And even then some of those orders had issues.😅
  7. Hopefully not to pay that for a pro4 front hub 😅. hope pro 5 for R250 more: https://evobikes.co.za/product/pro-5-mtb-hub-boost-front/ hope prob 4 for R200 less: https://evobikes.co.za/product/hope-pro-4-front-hub-32h-110x15-boost-black/ or if you dont mind red…R600 less: https://evobikes.co.za/product/hope-pro-4-front-hub-32h-110x15-boost-red/ but to answer your actual question…never heard of them.
  8. Has to Suck if you booked and paid for accommodation. But i guess nothing is stopping anyone from having an informal/ untimed group ride and just enjoy the vibes. Thats what it’s about anyway right? To be honest, i think thats where these are heading anyway. This ‘class’ of riding/ event just doesn't seem to want to get going, which is unfortunate. Also, you can only have so many Jonkershoek days before that becomes boring too. thanks for trying though @Christofison
  9. That wasn't the point lol. But let me elaborate. The point is, technologically, the Japanese variant is relatively stone aged versus the german counterpart, but they both exist and both are sold and both have their respective target markets. Edit: ….and cult followings! Audi/vw will not be putting toyota out of business in our lifetime atleast. And also,…these days if you can afford to own/drive a land cruiser…you can 100% afford a 4x4 beetle lol, even for only the school run in the burbs. The best is when you see a totally kitted out overlanding machine with everything on the roof in showroom condition 🤣. Both rich mans toys and for the most part to help stroke an ego😅
  10. Also….you can have an audi Q7(?)which will basically drive itself and operate all its its bells and whistles too. …and then you can have a decidedly agricultural Toyota land cruiser for similar money that doesn't even come with electric windows. …they both will work up to 100k km, but the one will make it to 1mil km without even flinching. Shimano is not going anywhere. And even of they stopped making mtb parts….the amount Shimano gear attached to fishing rods worldwide probably dwarfs mtbing ones..they have enough going on all over to stay rich and happy. Also..arent they pretty prolific in the ebike side of things with batteries and motors?
  11. Deffo not between GX axs and xt… hell, someone send me a new XT 12 speed rear mech and shifter and i’ll send my axs 🤣. Alot of confirmation bias around here. Ive mentioned it already somewhere. GX AXS on my one bike, SLX 12spd on the other…and I 100% prefer the slx…and it even has the peasant slx shifter…not even all the niceties of the xt shifter. I just prefer the no hassles clear, crisp mechanical shift on it. It just works mechanically, ergonomically, tactility etc.
  12. Thats part of the problem of all this crap getting more electronic. Avarage joe cant fix it anymore. When the time comes, my gx axs is also getting replaced with a mechanical setup. Recently built a another bike up for myself with slx 12 speed and i can hand on hart say that i prefer it over the axs.
  13. Unrelated, or sort-of related…but both my mtb frames (from different makes) one steel and the other alloy, have fine print in the manual that states tailgate straddling voids the warranty😅 just thought id put that out there.
  14. The 90’s were 30+ years ago….get with the program 😅
  15. You know what all those things mean, unless you have 0 imagination or you are just being agist 😅 And anyway…We all call the things we love different pet names… your liefie is someone elses babes, is someone elses skattebol😊
  16. Im enjoying my banshee hardtail so much that im considering selling the steel shred-sled too. The big squish is fun over the really rough stuff, but the hardtail literally beats it everywhere else.
  17. Look, its not 32/10-52 lol….but i ride plenty of hills with 1x1 no issue. Its easy enough that its not hard and i never really think about it. Unless you really want to spin up a hill at 5kph….you’ll only really need to get out of the saddle and make some effort when it gets proper steep for long. I did Around the Pot in the mud with 42/11-42 if that means anything to you. Im 2m tall and around 90kg.
  18. I have 42/11-42 on mine. I dont think about the 1x1 really. It is plenty enough. What i will say though is that i hardly ever use the 11T where I ride that bike, so for that reason i think 40 or 38 would be better so i’ll have more usable range.
  19. Was at bloemendal yesterday to ride around with my 2y old after ridink Conties the past few weekends. Could barely make it up past homerun’s start. That place is destroyed proper. Some will say i’m being nasty, but yea…crying wolf about a few ‘scandies’ and ‘cutties’…now you have some real work to do i guess. But….hopefully the tygercult overlords uses this as a lesson to design/plan the trails smarter. They are having to rebuild everything anyway in some cases….so use some common knowledge about how geography/hydrology works and figure out the best places to build…. and put in some proper drainage. At least now you know where the water wants to go… Conters basically took ‘no’ damage in comparison…because Rob knows where to build what, knows the land…and puts drainage in where it matters. Half the trails that are closed at conties are not because of the rain, but because they are actually busy building chocolate cake again. same for places like Banhoek. Trails are fine. Even jonkers..everything is open from 5 down basically. The saddest part will be, bloemendal being the ‘headquarters’, thats where all the work will be prioritised over the next 6 months. I hope im wrong though… anyway…good luck.
  20. happy with the set of mk4 flow on my hardtail too.
  21. This is what makes us quintessentially South African… …Laws are guidelines and rules are suggestions. Don’t hate the player, hate the game?😅 love it.
  22. I know @BaGearA has posted something similar re the bleed ports on a fox fork….but it still boggles my mind how they basically charge you all the extra money for a label and a knob when all the valving etc is already there. Do they really think anyone with the slightest bit inquisitiveness wont notice lol
